Our friend Ryan over at KC Chiefs Blog handed out the first quarter awards which I totally forgot about have been planning for weeks so here are our awards through one quarter of the season. No surprise that Ryan and I agree on all of these.
Offensive MVP: Dwayne Bowe. I'm not sure who else we'd pick here. Bowe has put in a pair of 100-yard receiving games along with two touchdowns. Every struggled in the first two games but Bowe responded with a solid performance against the San Diego Chargers and an even better day against the Minnesota Vikings. He finishes the quarter with 16 catches for 292 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Defensive MVP: Tamba Hali. Again, I'm not sure who else to pick. Maybe Derrick Johnson but Hali has four sacks on the season and has been the defensive player making the most impact. Hali, Brandon Flowers, Eric Berry and DJ are in the conversation for the most important players on defense. My vote would go to Hali right now.
Rookie MVP: Justin Houston. He's the only rookie to pick up a starting role through the first month of the season. I thought he would come along a lot slower after missing the first week of camp but he picked up the starting job by the second week of the season.
Any changes you'd make to this list?
