Oh gosh another Andrew Luck post and its coming after we just won! I understand people are going to come here and say "we just won and you're still here posting about Luck, you're a negative nancy!" I get where you are coming from, but i believe this guy is that compelling of a player. Once every 10 or 20 years a college player comes along with the physical skills and raw talent that Andrew Luck has. He has already been dubbed a franchise quarterback and a future Super Bowl winner. It doesn't matter what fan base you are from, the thought of your team getting Luck would certainly bring you some Joy. I truly believe there a fans in every fan base that wouldn't be displeased with the pick of Andrew Luck. If you are interested in how compelling I believe Mr. Luck is take the jump with me.
I want to start off by saying I am a true fan of the Kansas City Chiefs. I have been a fan ever since I was introduced the the Chiefs in 1999 as a kid. I opted to attend my first Chiefs game on Halloween against the San Diego Chargers. The Chiefs went on to win that game with a score of 34-0 and I believe DT recorded his only career INT in that game. I have been a chiefs fan ever since and have done nothing but eat, sleep, and breathe Kansas City Chiefs Football. The point of me letting you know this is that I have never once wished the Chiefs would lose a game and like most of you have been extremely pissed when they did lose at times. Which leads me to my point of just how compelling of a prospect I believe Andrew Luck is.
Ever since Jamal Charles went down I have been wishing that we could somehow manage to draft Andrew Luck. I have also been behind Todd Haley and him keeping his job. I know its dumb to think if we are drafting Luck then Haley will keep his job, but I believe he has gotten his players to respond and play for him since he arrived. When thinking about the upcoming game against the Vikings I had already chalked up another loss for our beloved Chiefs. The first time in my chiefs fandom I didn't come in with optimism in the team. My thinking was if the chiefs are going to be this bad and win less than a handful of games then hopefully they can stink bad enough to draft the beloved savior. I am not one of those fans that think the team should deliberately suck for luck but i was ok with the team not being good enough to get the wins. I know what you are thinking. "What the hell is you're problem?" "You are not a true fan so get out of here!" Believe me I know shame on me. I should always want the Chiefs to win no matter what. While watching the Chiefs game yesterday I was very excited to see the Chiefs playing well and seeing them have some fight. My wife even noted that I had an extra pep in my step while heading to the fridge to grab another beer as she said the Chiefs must be winning huh? Of course I was pumped, but I would be lieing if I said that there wasn't a part of me thinking there goes our Andrew Luck chances. I feel terrible for feeling that way, but as I stated earlier Andrew Luck is that compelling. Again I know shame on me.
As good as Matt Cassel played yesterday I was picturing Andrew Luck standing behind the Chiefs line slinging the ball. I pictured how good this unproven quarterback could be with Jamal Charles behind him. I just knew he would be the quarterback that would break the Chiefs playoff win drought. I knew he would be the Chiefs first home picked QB that would have success and then something clicked. While this kid has all the potential in the world and raw skills that are out of this world, what has he done in the NFL? I'm not saying this kid isn't the next great because I believe he will be, but there is a quote that says potentail without action is nothing or something like that. I just think all the talk and hype around this kid amounts to alot of pressure and pressure on a young person like himself can crush a career. Don't believe me go look at all the supposed "great players" that come out in ANY sport and look at what pressure, fame, and money have done to them. I know this kid doesn't show any signs of being that kind of guy but the fact of the matter is he has done nothing in the NFL. Yes I still want Luck but first and foremost I got kicked in the behind and realize I want the Chiefs to win first no matter who it is that gets them there and I hope it is the same with all of you as well. No player comes before the team and that is what is most important. they are the Kansas City ChiefS not Kansas City Chief and I think some of us are forgetting that.
But if the Chiefs end up getting Luck then great but if not then its up to the next person to help us be successful no matter who that is. As always
