Chargers Left Tackle Now Expected To Play Vs. Chiefs

Earlier this week we highlighted a report from a San Diego paper, the North County Times, that the Chargers left tackle, Marcus McNeill, was "expected" to miss Monday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Another San Diego paper, the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports today that McNeill is likely to play on Monday, despite a neck injury. Kevin Acee of the Union-Tribune is one of the best in the business so we can now expect to see McNeill out there on Monday night, barring a setback.

It sounds like a few other questionable Chargers will be ready for the game with an extra day of rest this week. LB Shaun Phillips is expected to be fine, the Union-Tribune reports, as is G Kris Dielman. WR Vincent Jackson and TE Antonio Gates practiced on Wednesday, which is good news for the Chargers.

One question mark is WR Malcolm Floyd whose status is unknown.

With the game on Monday, the Chiefs and Chargers injury reports are pushed back a day. So we'll see our first first one today and the final one on Saturday.

Good. Bring 'em

Don’t want any excuses when we spank them like they took the last cookie from the jar.

I hope he plays

So they don’t think they need to bring extra help.

It doesn’t matter who’s blocking Tamba. One-on-one he’s unblockable by everyone but MAYBE Joe Thomas…

I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.

bad feeling

i hate to be a downer. but i have a bad feeling about this game. phillip “cry me a” rivers is being questioned about his performances this year from the media and fans. he claims he’s healthy. the velocity on throws is strong. accuracy is off. that’s correctable.
good players like rivers play a great game when they get criticized, like rivers has this week. he plays well at arrowhead, throwing 10 tds and only three picks.
this game will come down to qb play. i believe it will be decided on rivers vs. our pass defense, which i believe is still suspect without eric berry. rivers could light up the chiefs defense. i hope i’m wrong.
the one x-factor for the chiefs is they’re playing with loads of confidence.

Matt cassel has some thing to prove also . He’s always criticized for being inconsistent . Also IMO he’ll wanna make up for messing up the last San deigo game which he kinda blew

Don't worry

Haley is going to yell at him before the game. Haley will be sitting by his bed when he wakes up Monday morning and will keep on his ass until he beats San Diego purely out of spite. With a chance to take the lead in the AFC West Arrowhead is going to be LOUD. Rivers is gonna have a tough time with that as he always does. THis is the week everyone needs to suck it up and support their team. If they go out and blow it or get blown out I promise I will be right beside you all hating on all things Cassel but for right now we need to remind the NFL why Kansas City is (used to be) the worst place in the country to come play in as visitors, and DOUBLY so if you are a division opponent. We have a chance here to make a real and immediate impact on how this game goes. Even if the CHargers aren’t rattled by the screaming and thumping making it impossible to do anything but silent count it’s gonna be scary seeing what Cassel, Bowe, Breaston, Baldwin, Battle, and the Brandons (all 3 of them) do with loud, screaming, unruly jackass fans behind them. Men, don’t shave. Don’t shower. Don’t change your clothes. Women, ditto. Get out there and stink em out if you can’t shout em out.

The Kansas City Chiefs, ruining playoff hopes since 2010

Don't forget that this game involves two teams.

The Chiefs have dropped one to the Chargers already and they are very aware of the importance of this game in terms of their season. This game is in KC on Halloween in front of the home crowd! That is an advantage that Phyllis doesn’t have. Of course they are saying that all their players will be on the field, they know that they will need every advantage to beat us on Monday night.

I disagree with your statement about velocity on Rivers passes. His velocity is what has been causing the accuracy problems. He has always had a shot put type throwing motion, but to me he sure looks like he is struggling with throwing the ball more than about 25-30 yards. What worries me about this is that he will have Gates, McMichael, Tolber and Mathews to throw to for plenty of medium route opportunities. I hope that RAC and Haley have seen this throwing issue and will cheat to the line of scrimmage as much as possible with our corners and safeties to cover up those middle of the field passes. I believe if we do that, we win this game.

Playing in front of the Halloween crowd will just make Phyllis think she is at a family reunion.

ARROWHEAD!!!!!!

by FireRescueChief on Oct 27, 2011 9:04 AM CDT reply actions

all fine and good…but we’re in trouble with gates and jackson. and all of this negativity towards rivers is going to fuel them.

by kc571 on Oct 27, 2011 9:51 AM CDT reply actions

I'll say it again...

it is a MUST that we get to Phyllis early and often. Keep him off-balance and he’s no good…he’s easily rattled, and then he makes mistakes. Last year’s opener is a prime example.

by crazychiefsfan on Oct 27, 2011 10:02 AM CDT reply actions

Very true

It’s that tendency that makes him a notch below the top tier QBs in the league (mostly Brady and Rodgers). Those guys keep coming no matter what.

Any word on Tolbert?

I read that he missed Wed practice. Likely to miss the game?

by Chief Farmer on Oct 27, 2011 10:24 AM CDT reply actions

No official word yet

but I would expect him to be available.

that would be huge. imo our biggest weakness on D is tackling consistency, and its 10x worse with a guy like tolbert

funny thing about the chargers…

id much rather see 100 percent ryan mathews, than mathews and sproles(now in NO, but still) or he and tolbert….heck id rather see mathews than tolbert all together

SETBACK —→ Hali ripping his head off to get to Phyllis Rivers. If McNeill does see action, it will only be temporary…
