Chiefs' Depth Chart Still Has Jackie Battle On Third Team
The Kansas City Chiefs have released their depth chart for Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders and it looks familiar. There were no changes from the last depth chart we saw prior to the Week 5 game against the Indianapolis Colts.
One notable is that RB Jackie Battle is still listed on the third team at running back behind RB Thomas Jones and RB Dexter McCluster. That won't stop Battle from getting the majority of the carries if the Chiefs choose to go that route (remember, RB Jamaal Charles was second on the depth chart behind Jones).
Here are previous versions of the depth chart:
Preseason: Week 1, Week 2, Week 3 and Week 4.
Regular season: Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, Week 4 and Week 5.
The latest depth chart is after the jump.

3rd string because..
he has to get mentally prepared to be the backup Fullback! Also, looking at this depth chart, it’s painfully obvious that we have no depth whatsoever. Numerous players on this depth chart wouldn’t even be on many other teams practice squads. Sabby in particular.
Agreed
TE, T, ILB, CB and S depth is not too pretty.

And inside O-line
One player is backing up three positions; one of which is an older C who might start struggling as the season goes on.
That's pretty typical though.
You either have one swing tackle and two backups on the interior or what we have now.

considering how well second string treated jamaal charles last year, if we get half that production out of battle ill take it gladly

That's still better than Jones' average

Baldwin is ahead of Horne on the depth chart so regardless of ST there's no reason not to see him this weekend.
ST is definitely part of the equation but I would say having a WR that can actuallly can contribute in both parts of the game is more important.

I think with baldwin, you have to keep in mind haley's comment has more to do with the active roster
horne wouldnt be active no matter what
to put baldwin up, they have to deactivate someone, who do you suggest that is? since its tough as is with powe inactive etc

My bad I thought Horne was active last week.

I’d think Baldwin’s presence alone on offense is worth more than Horne’s contributions on ST.
"Hater" is a term used by weak-minded people in the face of legitimate criticism.
You would think he would open things up when he's on the field.
Unless they’re willing to single up on Bowe, Baldwin would get favorable matchups against LBs and safeties or would draw coverage away from Bowe who’s hard enough to cover.

urban is probably cut if he wasnt such a darn good cheerleader and team player

Battle is going to easily get the bulk of the carries
if the Chiefs want to win. Dex may squirt through on a couple, but falls down on first contact. So does 2-yard Thomas. The only way Cassel can have success is with a strong ground game forcing 8 in the box and single coverage on the WRs to get Bowe in on the slants and Breaston beating his man deep.

Uhmmm?
You do read this site don’t you?
“Newly-annointed halfback Dexter McCluster has 3.3 yards after contact per carry; which is better than Thomas Jones’ total yards per carry (2.6).”
Yeah, Dex is a slippery little dude
What yards he’s gotten this year were after contact.
Sadly that happens in the backfield a good bit, or when he’s getting creamed as he catches yet another screen pass 3 yards behind the LOS.
We Don't Hear The Hate
He is averaging
something like 5.4 yards per carry so far this year. He should match up pretty good against Oaklands front line.
Jamaal Charles was #2 all of last year
That tells you the importance of the KC depth chart
And this year. It also says that Battle won’t be moved up the rest of this season.
"Hater" is a term used by weak-minded people in the face of legitimate criticism.
In addition- he was 3rd last week
And led the team in carries by a sizable margin.
I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.
If Battle doesn't get 80% of the carries I will take a dump in a box and mail it to Haley.
I swear to God.

You have to say it's from a marine to make sure he opens it.

Get your box ready
I bet we see a good dose of McCluster since his speed and shiftiness matchup better against Oakland’s physical front. Battle was the better matchup against the speedy Colts defense because they were soft in the middle.
Get your box ready?
So many things just popped into my head. Sorry, that is just my thinking. I guess you can call me Treach ’cuz I am Naughty by Nature…

If you are unsure, assume he is a Patriot cast off.

After seeing this comment I had to look back at the depth chart
I swear I have never seen that name anywhere before

I guess its safe to assume
That we wont get to see McClain in that power back role we were all dreaming of.
Getting 10-15 carries a game and lead blocking the rest of the time.
I think he is being under utilized with his talent level. But hey, maybe Battle WAS being under utilized as well…..lets hope so.
How long should you try? Until.
- Jim Rohn
I'd be okay with McClain lead blocking for Battle a few times
Just to see if they can just punch the opponents in the teeth.

After a few carries of TJ
It’ll be all mccluster and battle IMO
by chiefsman! on Oct 18, 2011 3:09 PM CDT via mobile reply actions
I wonder how long until Jones becomes a healthy scratch.
If he is only getting 2 or 3 carries and doesn’t play special teams is it worth having him active on game day. Battle McClain and McCluster give enough depth on a game by game basis. Activate him if one gets hurt.

Bet he gets the first carry
And TJ will see his last.
by KCinIL on Oct 18, 2011 3:31 PM CDT via mobile reply actions
Why all the hate on Jones
He had a decent game against indy and would have had about 25 more yards if not for 2 holding calls.
Dont get me wrong, I dont like the fact that he gets so many carries, but if we get the production out of him like he did against indy, i have no problems with him.
He ran through holes so big, I'm sure Terry Shvaivo would have got equal production.
That’s why I’m still cautiously optimistic about Battle’s huge game
by craig in calgary on Oct 18, 2011 5:00 PM CDT up reply actions 1 recs
Yeah, Battle had miles of room.
Hopefully he doesn’t return to what he was doing in the preseason, which was 2.7 all over again – run at the gap designated by the play call, all vertical running. If the gap isn’t open, run into your linemen and stall.
He looked great with huge gaps to run through. But OAK has a very physical D Line and there may not be that big of gaps to shoot this time.
I hope he can keep it up though. We need some bright spots.

why are copper and urban ahead of Colbert?
by JC25FoMVP on Oct 18, 2011 6:27 PM CDT via mobile reply actions
It's all good, Copper and Urban weren't in there to catch that pretty vital 3rd down late against IND
I’d reckon the depth chart means just about nothing in that case.
We Don't Hear The Hate
Why is Amon Gordon still on the team and ahead of Powe?
It’s not like Amon Gordon has more experiences than him…?!?!?!?!
Gordon has played well.
Powe is a late 6th round pick, with zero NFL experience. Also, Gordon plays all three DL positions, while Powe can only play one. Easy decision.
Gordon has quite a bit more experience.
And has played very well, and can fill a rotational role.
That said, I really do want to see Powe get some game time reps. But we use our base D so little this year, having too many NT’s active wouldn’t make sense. We’ve seen a LOT of sub package / dime looks so far, so I’m guessing they want the extra DB’s active.
