Jealous much?
Jeez, Joel in Pioli’s pocket conspiracy theories. What are they going to write about next?

I like how he calls everyone liars with absolutely no facts of his own.
This is why I don’t read AA.

Unable to read an opinion different than your own? That article does a great job of offering opinions and giving what he based the opinions on. Then, in the comments, the author is there defending his position. At least the guy has the balls to give his (usually unpopular) opinion and stick around to defend it.
"Hater" is a term used by weak-minded people in the face of legitimate criticism.
Opinions are great until you start talking about them like they're facts.
And I’m not sure it takes a lot balls to write an opinion piece, like it’s factual online, and defend it with more non-facts in the comments.

I know you hate negative pieces about the Chiefs almost as much as stags, but there are more than a few qualifiers in that one that clearly show he’s just stating his opinion. I’m not sure why he should start every paragraph by stating it’s only opinion.
"Hater" is a term used by weak-minded people in the face of legitimate criticism.
So then you believe his opinion is gospel
And others won’t. Win-win

What does this even mean?
Are you against opinion pieces in general, or just one’s that may reflect poorly on the Chiefs?
Not true.
I hold a pretty realistic stance on most things Chiefs. What I don’t get is people like this who try to pawn their opinions off as facts and call out other people as liars when they have shit all to back it up with. If that’s what they need to do to get readers, then all the more power to them.

Yeah, I like Big Matt's articles
generally some of the most insightful you’ll find imo. I like AP, but the AA and Nick Wright’s of the world have their value too, namely op ed pieces speculating on what little info is available.
Making giant leaps in logic on no info...
I want that job.
But seriously, one wonders if BM hasn’t jumped the shark here.

I wouldn't worry about it a whole lot
Odd as it sounds, I take it as a compliment that they spend enough time to analyze and write about our coverage. They wouldn’t do that if we were irrelevant. We’ve written the same way for a few years anyway.

Really though
all he said was Pioli “cozied up to” you and that your coverage is “extremely positive”, it’s not like he ridiculed AP.
Right
The author has said things like that several times in the past so it’s not a surprise. Again, to each his own.

Yeah, all I really meant by that is it was more of an attack on Pioli than AP
I mean, what can you be expected to do when a GM of an NFL teams calls you up? You asked him everything you should? Even threw in a " did you consider firing Haley at any point?" for good measure. I think he was more attacking Pioli knowing who to come to to make sure the story reached a “receptive” audience.
Translation: AP doesn't need to create controversy to be relevant. Other sites and writers do.

Bullshit. He calls out AP because it reinforces his opinion. Do you have a good explanation why Pioli is silent on nearly every issue yet almost immediately denies this one?
My only issue is that Big Matt’s timeline is off. The original Wright rumor was posted before the fanshot with his “prediction.”
"Hater" is a term used by weak-minded people in the face of legitimate criticism.
How many rumors have there been about Haley getting fired?
A GM staying silent on internal matters like the Jones/Baldwin scuffle, or whatever else he has had no comment about is a whole lot different than carrying on the rumors of his head coach being fired. This is completely different than any other situation rumor-mongers have tried to use to claim that Pioli “wouldn’t have responded if it wasn’t true”. That is the real bullshit out if all of this. Media (and apparently some fans) get their little feelings hurt because Pioli doesn’t share every bit of info about the team and as soon as he actually does respond to some weak firing rumor to show support for his struggling coach, it gets twisted to this dogshit. Just weak

by RememberDelaney37 on Oct 18, 2011 2:42 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
The only people with their feelings hurt are the ones who can’t take it when their team is criticized.
…respond to some weak firing rumor to show support for his struggling coach,
That only reinforces Matt’s article: If the rumor were so weak, why would he feel it necessary to shoot it down?
"Hater" is a term used by weak-minded people in the face of legitimate criticism.

So to deny it reinforces it?
I’d love to live in the fantasy land where that logic is viable. I bet him staying silent would have reinforced it too, huh? Sensationalism is the name of the game in some people’s minds I guess.
by bossmanham on Oct 18, 2011 2:53 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
No, to deny it brings questions. Especially when publicly denying a rumor is completely out of character for the organization and what they have emphasized since day one.
"Hater" is a term used by weak-minded people in the face of legitimate criticism.
Ha
So the only way for Pioli to have made good with this rumor was to confirm it. Got it. Makes perfect sense

And you’re still incapable of having a discussion. Some things never change I guess.
"Hater" is a term used by weak-minded people in the face of legitimate criticism.
What in the world needs to be discussed here?
If Pioli denies it, it’s true. If he confirms it, oks true. If he doesn’t confirm nor deny, it’s true. It has already been stated numerous times why Pioli would outright deny this vs. remaining silent, yet you keep asking the same question. If that answer isn’t what you think it should be, then again, what is there to discuss
I'm so overrated, I'm underrated.
by RememberDelaney37 on Oct 18, 2011 3:06 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
its not so cut and dry, I mean, his point is pioli doesn't EVER comment on stories, in almost three years
if you don’t think its a little off, then i’m glad you’re not a detective
by LHO on Oct 18, 2011 4:53 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
Then you missed my point
There has never been any rumors of firing Haley in 3 seasons with the chiefs. If Pioli would have stayed mum on this, it would have just continued to build every week and Haley would have been answering about this every week, and the media knew there wouldn’t have been anything to Haley denying it because it’s not his decision. Pioli answered this rumor to help and support his head coach. It’s “off” because this is the first time Haley was rumored to be on the hot seat, nothing more. Any other on-goings or rumors about the team would come from Haley and his decision on what to speak about and what not to
I'm so overrated, I'm underrated.
by RememberDelaney37 on Oct 18, 2011 5:30 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
Pioli answered this flat out lie
because it was the most egregious thing to hit the airwaves since he took over here. He and Haley will win together or work somewhere else together. Why is that so hard to fathom?
"You gonna pull them pistols...or whistle Dixie?"
obviously
those are really the only two options for any coaching situation..was just saying an uncharacteristic denial brings with an an aire of defensiveness, justified or not. This is the reality they created with their “tight lips” policy.
I agree 100%
When you live by the sword, you die by the sword. Thing is, if he had ignored this report, there would have been those who said that his silence was confirmation. He was damned if you do and damned if you don’t. I hope that is refutation was straight talk and no deception intended. That’s the GM that I want him to be.
"You gonna pull them pistols...or whistle Dixie?"
And couldn't agree more
Some things never change. There is always the small contingent here on AP here to make sure no one disagrees with the negative reports from the media, opinion or fact. No matter how painfully obvious the situation might be, someone making up rumors and garnering attention to their forums in the media should receive the utmost respect and agreement

Denying that you were going to FIRE YOUR COACH is out of character.
Hmm. Ok. And when an annoyingly skinny white member of the kc sports media is saying his anonymous invisible high up sources in the organization are confirming it. Yep, dumb idea to get your side out there.

To kill any further negativity floating around his coach
Again, this is extremely different than any other rumor that has been floated around in the last 3 seasons. Not giving a 100% vote of confidence in your coach when asked? Give Pioli a little more credit than that. Weak weak weak

It's called being a good gm.
Unless it could actually affect something (like the media claiming you were going to fire your coach would), you don’t go talking about interpersonal issues.

If it is as weak a rumor as so many have said then why would he need to deal with it at all? Why wouldn’t he just let it fade away like every other rumor?

Do you want to leave him twisting in the wind when the questions start coming? I don’t see how he could NOT have responded to this rumor.

Food for thought (from an admittedly biased source)
Isn’t the whole point of sports blogs, be it AP or AA, to come together and discuss and debate the team we love? Isn’t that more interesting to do when there are different opinions out there? Some of you almost seem to be implying that Big Matt is in the wrong for writing this piece. I think I can speak for Big Matt when I say he 100% believes every word he wrote. If you disagree with him, great. If you disagree with something Joel writes, that’s great too. It allows the readers of the sight to discuss the issue. In my opinion its the best part of sights like this.
I can’t begin to tell you how many times BM and I have butted heads on an issue. We disagree a lot, but I still think having that different opinion then the majority is an asset (to any sight) because if its just about posting an article that the majority of readers already agree with and “want to hear” do we really gain anything from it? It’s almost become the exact opposite as when I first came to AP a couple years ago and if you said anything pro-chief you were some “out of touch with reality, homer glasses wearing, kool aid drinking moron”. Then we have one winning season and suddenly the masses have shifted and now anyone that questions what the team is doing is a “hack writing, chief hating, moron”.
I say the more different opinions the better.

It's not about the suffering opinion here
It’s about the rumor building, specifically with the “haley firing” rumor. When the main argument for this opinion is “why would it have been denied if it wasn’t true”, it just becomes ridiculous. There really is no justification for that belief or opinion as it stands currently. Other than that, the more opinions definitely the better

Its just frustrating beyond belief. people want a conspiracy. Fact is its clear. Press gets less information, press feels need to make up more information to start “discussion” see illustrated, warpaint
Team Pioli/Haley. Decade of the Chiefs.
Team Colquitt
Furthermore
The fact that this site was brought up for it’s “positivity” just comes off as such a back-handed compliment that it makes this a bit of a contentious situation. You wonder why Pioli or anyone from the team would rather talk and divulge information to someone like Joel or Gretz is because that while they may question some decisions or moves by the team at times, they remain respectful, don’t make up negative nicknames, and try to the best of their abilities to avoid generating rumors with pure speculations just because they don’t get clear cut answers from questions. Media heads like Nick Wright, Whitlock, even this specific AA article at times, seem to take the negative road instead of reasonably stating opinions and thoughts as Joel and Chris do here on AP. It’s not that they just fall in line and never question or disagree, they just do it respectfully and with the utmost care of not speculating wildly.

Did you read Big Matt’s article? There is very little speculation. He says several times that either side could be true and we’ll likely never know. The main point that I took away from it is that 1) Instead of denying rumors the Chiefs prefer to discredit those who report them and 2) Every negative report about the Chiefs is met with ridiculous backlash and very little consideration for whether it could possibly be true.
"Hater" is a term used by weak-minded people in the face of legitimate criticism.
Maybe you can enlighten me
This article talks a whole bunch about the team “discrediting” and “attacking” anyone who brings up any speculating questions with “condescending” attitudes. What exact quotes do we have of Pioli, Haley, or anyone in the front office discrediting or attacking anyone in the last 3 years?
