I'm just like all of you - literally sailing as we see that the Chiefs have life this season, and positively elated to see our playmakers and defense come out and play dominant football for at least a half. I do have a huge problem, though - what are we going to do about Cassel?
He made it easy for three weeks. He was playing terrible football. We had to get rid of him. I had openly vowed to punch him in the throat if I ran into him anywhere in town (a joke - It would be a lot closer to the Wayne's World "we're-not-worthy" thing). We had a clear direction we needed to go for the future of the team, and that future didn't include Matt Cassel. Like I said - it was easy. He was dead to me.
And here we are. The Chiefs haven't scored a rushing touchdown. Chalk that up to whatever you want but the truth is that Matt Cassel has been essential to the wins and the feelings we all have right now as Chiefs fans. He clearly wants very much to be the answer at quarterback - and lately he's been playing like he is.
A couple of weeks ago a lot of Chiefs fans wanted this guy's head. You guys and gals know whats happened since.
I'm interested to know how everyone feels. I'm tired of seeing the word "efficient" used to describe Cassel's performance yesterday - it was straight badass. We have to acknowledge this. At the same time, our larger body of evidence suggests that yesterday's play is pretty close - if not right at - his ceiling as a pro quarterback. We aren't NY/Philly/Boston fans and I'm proud of this - we aren't as fickle and we are capable of throwing our support behind a guy, 100%, for more than five minutes. And we aren't getting Andrew Luck. We have an obligation here, and we need to make up our minds as fans. Do we believe in this guy?
