Wow, Asomugha is now a free agent...

So as of today Asomugha, yes the guy who is widely considered the best cornerback in the league, is now a free agent. With his three year contract he signed 2 years ago there was a stipulation in place. If he did not have more playing time in 2010 then 2009 or did not improve on his sack, interception, or forced fumbles, his contract would be void. Well guess what ladies and gentleman he only played in 14 games this year compared to 16 last year. He also had 1 interception last year, with none this year. So we have on our plates a possibility to try to sign one of the best cornerbacks in the league. Well lets look at some stats and decide...

So these are his career stats... he kind of struggled at the beginning of his career as he made a transition from safety to corner but it really hit his stride in 06-07. After that, teams stopped throwing to him. This season he was only targeted 33 times. 33, yes again, 33. I think teams target brandon carr that many times in a game some days. Of those 33 he allowed 13 catches for 205 yards, just over 15.7 yards per reception. With no touchdowns by the way.

Ok so I know he will come with a huge price tag, ridiculous maybe, but how do you not pursue him. Pay him, pay brandon flowers, handsomely, give us the best corner duo in the nfl, make teams run the ball every play. Put eight in the box, hell put nine, bring berry up to destroy the qb or rb and watch as teams are fearful to pass the outside. Yes i know it may not be a huge priority but something like this does not happen that often, at all. I like Carr, I really do, I think he is a underrated corner, but make him a nickelback, or Javier Arenas who I think is very capable. Its not every day you can build a Madden Football team but maybe when free agency starts, we should think about trying.
