like i've said before, AZ only has leverage if Fitz gives them any. Fitz holds ALL leveage.

last year of deal does not help AZ at all. teams do not give up a lot in a trade and then have to shell out$$$$

maybe if the yankees become a football team, but not until then

I don't know

Maybe the last year of the contract works in favor of getting a deal done. One more year on a playoff bound team sounds a lot better than one more year on a team without a QB—especially if you are a WR. Fitz probably wants a trade and got the ok to float this rumor in an effort to help out the Cards as much as possible while leaving. That said, the Chief don’t have anything to dangle for the Cards. I would think that the Cards want a vet at QB to give them a decent chance to win some games. To bad we don’t have a Damon Huard type setting on the bench—OH WAIT, What about Brokie Croyle? Surely he will sweeten that pot, no?

2nd round this year, 2nd round next year and Croyle would sound great to me.....

……..but I dont think that the Cardinals staff would take Croyle unless it was just included with the picks.

the "right price"

lessee here … 1st & 3rd draft pick, Todd Haley’s 1st born son or daughter, 3 mansions (one each in Arizona, California and Florida), 2 players to be named later and a partridge in a pear tree

how bout some kc bbq a.

I have a feeling that 2010 will be a defining year for the Kansas City Chiefs. Do we become the 2001 Patriots or footballs version of the royals??

Could be available? Definitely is....

The Cards have zero leverage. If they dont sign him he walks at the end of the season next year with no franchise tag available and if they do sign him it is reported that Fitz wants 18M$(Peyton money) to stay.

by GenericBrand on Jan 27, 2011 5:16 PM CST reply actions

actually, they can't. and that's not technically, that's actually.
Because of the terms of the contract, the Cardinals can’t place a franchise tag on him.

You're plenty snarky enough in that comment.

I had seen this ‘fact’ earlier, sorry.

If Fitzgerald is franchise tagged in 2012, he must be paid $23 million that season.

wow

the stroke the current Bidwell would have and the grave spinning the dead Bidwell’s would have if they paid someone 23 million bucks for one season…

by bansky on Jan 27, 2011 9:08 PM CST up reply actions

was there a link with it?

i wasn’t trying to come off as a jerk or anything, but if you want to make the comment you did to generic, you should have ‘fact’ and a source to go with it.

you can call me snarky, but your ‘fact’ is the kind of ‘facts’ my sarcasm was directed at.

my point:
I think technically they can use the franchise tag on him, but he’s guaranteed an absurd amount of $ if they use it…

You didn’t include a link, and you said “I think.”

Thus, sounded like you were merely giving opinion.

If you had just googled Larry Fitzgerald Franchise Tag (like I did), you could have fact-checked.

I’m not being nitpicky. You implied Generic didn’t know what he was talking about and came in with no link or facts. The only reason I posted.

When people use the term, 'think'

It usually implies that, you know, they think that is true.

As it turns out, I had seen it earlier in the link I later posted. I didn’t say, you’re wrong, this is right, here are the facts.

Was I wrong, it looks like it. It’s also why I said ‘think.’ I didn’t look it back up before I put that down.

You need to relax. Quickly.

by kcsno56 on Jan 28, 2011 10:51 AM CST up reply actions

okay, searched around some more on the issue...

your link says he can be franchised, a bunch of other sites say he can’t.

however, according to http://bleacherreport.com/articles/570964-contract-negotiations-should-the-arizona-cardinals-trade-larry-fitzgerald

the answer may be both:

Keep in mind, the language in Fitzgerald’s current contract contains both a no-trade clause and a prohibitive clause against the intentions of the organization to use the franchise tag at the conclusion of the 2011 season, which if exercised, would require the team to pay Fitzgerald a guaranteed base salary of $23 million.

Sounds like his contract prohibits them from franchising him, but not fully. It is kind of weird. So this whole thing is that much more confusing, as numerous places just merely say they can’t franchise him:

http://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles/minnesota_vikings_to_trade_for_wr_larry_fitzgerald/3625214

Fitzgerald’s contact has a clause in it that the Cardinals cannot use the franchise tag on him and he also has a no trade clause.

http://helmetandpadsrequired.com/larry-fitzgerald-is-in-his-last-days-in-arizona/

Under the terms of his present deal that ends in 2011, Larry holds all the power. The Cardinals cannot trade Fitzgerald or place the franchise tag on him.

yes

This team is too good to give up anyone really instrumental like Bowe but we’re not so good that we don’t need draft picks. I ain’t scared of Sandy. If one WR is all they needed, then they should have at least went 4-0 against the NFC West.

Fitzgerald is not just one receiver

and he is easily better than Vincent Jackson, who was missing half of last season.

I’m sorry, say what you want, but how would San Diego not be unstoppable?

Don't panic

Chargers had a great passing game (2nd in passing yards) and still found ways to lose games to bad teams. I would say that indicates that improving their passing game wouldn’t help them win any more often than they did. I didn’t pay too much attention to them and I don’t intend to start, but I’d guess some of their stats were padded by their special teams being THAT awful. They need to improve their special teams play a lot.

by NotAGoodName on Jan 28, 2011 6:34 PM CST up reply actions

like I said, they didn't have jackson half the season. lots of injuries.

besides, KC has a hard schedule next year. Didn’t exactly blow the rest of the division away. Wont’ do it next season. Special teams can improve drastically fairly easily.

but hey, if you don’t care about making the playoffs the next few years, fine. I don’t think I’m over-reacting. if SD makes this deal rather than KC (if either do), it is not good news for KC for the foreseeable future.

trading Bowe to get Fitz would be stupid, in my opinion

I was hesitant about giving up a first round pick for Fitz but then I thought about it for awhile. If we drafted a WR with the first pick (highly unlikely) we would have to hope for him to be able to come in and be a pro bowl caliber starter right away. Isnt that what Fitz is already? A first this year and maybe a pick next year or a First and one of our 15 linebackers on the roster for Fitz would be great.
