Raider-Chief Rivalry: The Battle for Rome

Hi KC fans! I'm Raider Psychologist (RaiderPsycho is just an abbreviation) and I am writing right before the game starts because I think that it is important to place the most famous and important rivalry in football history into its proper perspective. Actually, I am a clinical psychologist with doctoral training and only mention this so that you can more fully understand the nature of my blogging. And no, I by no means am a troll. I am on your sacred ground so I am trying to present myself with the utmost and deepest respect to all of you. I was 7 years old in 1960 when our teams were formed and have been tuned in to this rivalry ever since. As a younger person I had bitterness toward the Chiefs but all of that has been transcended to respect for the Chiefs and I will explain why this is so.

I view the Chiefs as brothers-in-arms with the Raiders. Consider this analogy: Remus and Romulus were brothers and they fought to the death over the proper establishment and creation of the city of Rome, just like Gene and Marvin Upshaw battled each other in those famous Oak-KC games. Rome, in this analogy, is represented as the NFL. I said this is the most famous rivalry in all of football and cannot make such claims without some proof. I am going by memory and will not present statistics, but I can recall when there were 10 to 11 Raiders and 10 to 11 Chiefs all in the same pro bowl, and that was not an unusual event in those days! What that tells you is that there was so much talent on both teams that the whole world tuned in to watch those games and that sort of talent go against each other - this is why to this day the Oak-KC rivalry is so deeply remembered. Never has there been that much talent between 2 teams in any other division, and that sort of talent existed for a couple of decades or more, and that is why the rivalry was so hot, so enduring, and so spectacular to watch. What other 2 teams in any other division can claim that much talent in addition to all the years that that talent existed? Surely, this rivalry is the envy of all of football and what has made the NFL what it is today.

I treasure those memories and more than anything I really wish for that spirited rivalry and talent to be reestablished. I'm no sycophant (kiss a$$), but to express my sincerity, I believe Haley should be named coach of the year, and I am basing that on the facts. The way he turned the Chiefs around is nothing less than amazing, and I don't see any other coach performing in that manner. Sure, Belicheck is again doing wonderful things with the Pats, but he is working with an established and veteran team. Hopefully, with Haley, he can bring the Chiefs back to their greatness as it appears that Oakland is coming along too. Since the Raiders are not in the playoffs, I will be rooting for you guys to win the Superbowl. Let this rivalry be established again as in times of old and may it endure forever. The game is about to begin so I gotta go, and let the battle for Rome begin!

Sincerely, Raider Psychologist
