My Candidate For Chiefs OC: Tom Cable
Yes that's right. Tom "Hawaiian Punch" Cable is my pick as the next offensive coordinator for the Chiefs. Here's why I want him to be our playcaller...
*The ex-Raiders head coach loved to run the ball. The Chiefs had the top rushing attack in the league this year. The Raiders had the second best rushing attack.
*His record against the Chiefs is 3-2. He's been pretty good at exploiting the weaknesses on our football team. With him on board, he could help fix those flaws that his Raiders exposed.
*Unlike Charlie Weis, I can see Cable sticking around for longer than one season.
*Cable wasn't a pushover when Al Davis interfered with his coaching decisions. I can't see him being a pushover against Todd Haley.
*I know a lot of people will not agree with me on this, but I think Cable is a good coach who got the raw end of the deal in Oakland. Plus I'd like to see him go against the Raiders and beat their ass. If Marcus Allen can do it, then so can Tom.
I know Cable has some issues off the field. I know he doesn't come from the Parcells tree. But I think he could be a home run in Kansas City.

I voted yes
Because Cable was a very good offensive coordinator, and actually his gameplans seemed to fit with our style very well. Plus he’s one hell of a motivator, and us having a lot of young guys this comes to be very useful. The only thing Cable didnt succeed in his time as the Oakland HC was discipline, and we all know thats where Haley steps in. I think it could be a good combination.
As soon as Cable was fired, I immediately thought of him becoming an OC for us. I think it could be a good fit.
LOL...
When was he a good OC? You know that Hue Jackson, the Raiders 2010 OC is the guy that’s being given the credit for getting the Raider offense turned around… so much so that he’s replacing Cable as the OC.
In 2009, when Cable was calling plays, the Raiders offense was awful. Bottom of the league in scoring.
You’re essentially saying that Cable is a good OC because of what Hue Jackson helped him put together in Oakland… Hell, if that’s the way you want it, then Haley is a good OC because of what Weis did here. Let’s just make Haley the OC… right?
Meant to say
Cable was a good offensive minded Head Coach. Apologies, was writing on the go. I do not think Hue Jackson was the reason for their success. Cable turned that team around, not the OC.
I think like happens in most organizations,
It was a combination of good coaching. Jackson did a good job calling plays. Cable was doing a good job motivating the players.
Al Davis is about to be in deep shit if Jackson doesn’t transition to HC easily… I can already see it. Rookie HC has a set back type year, similar to what Haley went through. And given Davis’ track record, I don’t see him letting Jackson hang around.
Actually -
Very intriguing..
I like it.

On top of punching a coach
On Nov. 1, 2009 the ESPN show Outside the Lines reported that Cable was accused of physical abuse against TWO ex-wives and an ex-girlfriend. I doubt if the Haley, Pioli, or the Hunt family would go for this. The “right” players, also include coaches. Just my opinion.
It doesn't include the coaches...
Haley said on audio to a ref that he tells his wife he takes out the trash, but doesn’t!!! What a jerk!
Hell No
Lets not forget his “offensive genius” lead the Raiders to being 32nd in the league in scroring offense in 2009. The recent success of the Raiders on offense had far more to do with Hue Jackson than Cable. Cable also was an o-line coach and has no prior oc experience in the NFL.
The Chiefs need to stop beating around the bush and hire an oc, we got burned with McCoy. The OC we hire need to have prior experience working with qb’s and I will beat this dead horse to the ground. Matt Cassel soent alot of time last season watching Drew Bree’s mechanics, who is Brees HC? Sean Payton, who Haley worked under from 2003-2005 in Dallas. Bree’s position coach is Joe Lombardi, Vince’s grandson. Dear Todd Haley get over your GOD complex and hire this guy asap.
Vince has another grandson who heads up a plumbing outfit in Albuquerque -
So, big whoops..
Let’s hire Tom Cable already!

Well Cooper Manning part owns an energy company
So I guess there is no hope for Peyton Manning to be a success in the NFL.
Well, if that's your conclusion -
Be it far from me to try to talk you out of it..

So let's get this straight
You make the excuse that Tom Cable had not OC experience in the NFL and then you want to offer our OC job to Joe Lombardi who also has no OC experience in the NFL…and is way younger. Makes no sense to me.
We need to either promote from within like any good organization….or hire someone with nearly the exact same offensive philosphy as Coach Haley.

Tom Cable
You make the excuse that Tom Cable had not OC experience in the NFL
Correct, someone else here had stated he was the Raiders OC, he never was. Had the Raiders with Cable had any offensive success prior to Hue Jackson? NOPE!
Yes Lombardi is somewhat of an unkown but he is part of a SUCCESFUL offense unlike Cable pre Hue Jackson. He also has worked under a coach from the Parcells tree and has similar philosophy, can you say that for Cable? Cable is an o-line coach, we have one already in Bill Muir (see promoting from within).
We need to either promote from within like any good organization
Who? Bill Muir? Notice his time in Tampa none of his offenses were in the top 20 for yardage. Maurice Carthon? A disaster as a play caller in Cleveland, Dallas and Detroit? The newly annointed Nick Sirianni? I like Mini Haley but interesting that he “was our qb coach” but had little or no interaction with Matt Cassel on the sidelines like a normal qb coach would.

Don't get me wrong
I’m not wanting Cable as our OC. I’m just saying….
I’m for anyone that can make our team better, make Cassel better, and our offensive line better. Anyone that can do that has my blessing.

LOL
What has Warner ever done in coaching? You want to bring in a QB who might not make the HOF and just give him the team OC job… WOW! Lets bring in Shannon Sharpe to coach the TE’s while we are at it…

I wouldn't mind it
He would run the ball which our O is based off of
He does well with Oline which we are going to need
Haley could go back to calling plays, if our OC is just a guy that works with the offense then has a little say in what the game plan is, Cable fits that pretty well
Cassel out, Andrew Luck in!
Cable dont take no mess!
The kind of attitude this team needs
I'd rather be a free man in my grave than living as a puppet or a slave
Cable himself said
after he got fired he was just going to be an o-line coach somewhere. Doesn’t have the brains to be an OC. I wouldn’t mind him being an o-line coach but he doesn’t coach a ZB scheme so we would need new players to match his scheme, it’d be a big mess.
Reminds me of the Solari debacle.
He quickly learned that OF coach was his calling.
YAAAAAY! Now you go, lady!
Yeah
there are already talks about McD in Sea… They are thinking that was the reason Bates was fired because the talks broke down with the McDummy in StL. But that is just connecting the dots… Smoke or Fire?
Doubt Cable gets an OC job anywhere.
THe guy is completely clueless when it comes to gameplans and x’s and o’s. He’ll be an oline coach somewhere but you would have to be crazy to let him coordinate your offense.

Cable was just hired by the Seahawks.

Why did they throw in the Asst Head coach part?

I think sometimes it's just a formality...
has more to do with money than with any kind of power structure. That’s just a guess on my part, though.
usually the Asst Head Coach designation
prevent lateral move of an OC or DC

Not true.
The NFL closed that loophole years ago. All assistant coaches count exactly the same, with regard to the lateral move rules. A WR coach is no different than an Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator. If under contract, both require permission unless being interviewed for a head coaching position.
As speculated above, I think the assistant head coach title is just throwing those guys a bone, and makes their demotion seem less severe. Or in Mo Carthon’s case, just Haley showing his appreciation for what he means to him. Probably comes with a few more dollars too.
YAAAAAY! Now you go, lady!
Just read that Cable has been hired by Seattle
Oh well.

another link about getting Bates as OC
The guys on NFL Network said he is the ying of the Carroll yang. Well they didnt say ying and yang. They said that Carroll is a laid back California surfer type of guy and Bates is a yellin, stomping, get in yer face type of guy. Sound familiar? Could this guy fit in?
