My offseason wishlist
Right now I would like to address what possitions I think we need to address and how we should address them. Hope you enjoy the read.
#1 NT- I think that we need to really address this possition. Ron Edwards has played better, but we NEED someone to play better. We need to have someone that will take up more blockers. There are a lot of FA out there, but I really don't think that we will find one that will be anything more than a stop gap. All of the big names I think will stay with thier respected teams. So I think that we have to adress this in the draft. I like Jurrell Casey out of USC. He was recently named the team MVP, and seems to be a stand up person, but is great at shoring up the run, and consistantly getting into the backfield. He is from a 4-3 defense, but I think he could be a NT easily. If we can't get him with the overall 21st pick, I would rather us wait till later rounds and get a big bodied NT then and take a SOLB with the 1rst pick.
#2 WR- This is obvious after yesturday. We really need to get some production out of McCluster, but it is hard to get him the ball when the defenses key on him. I think that Kevin Curtis was a great addition. I think he has a real chance of being on the roster next year. Hopefully he still has some speed. Chambers is gone. I hope that is an afterthought, and he isn't even ivited back to practice next year. I think that there are a lot fo great options here in Free Agency. I think the best for us would be Steve Breaston from Arizona. He knows Haley, and he is fast. We need someone to be able to stretch the field. I think he can be had for 4 years and 22 million. That is a guess from me and me alone, but I think those numbers will be close. He has had some injury history which will make him a little cheaper. But a lot of people say that he could be a legit 1WR. If not him, I would pursue Steve Smith, but I think he will stay at NY. There are so many good options at WR that I think that we should at least make a big signing of a FA, and save our early round draft choices for more possitional needs. We still need a NT, SOLB, and a few Oline help.
#3 SOLB Akeem Ayers seems to be most peoples choice. And while I can't disagree with this idea, I honestly don't think he will be the pick. I think we will try to pick up this person in FA. Kiwanuka seems to fit here, but there are a long list of players that can fill better than Vrable. If we don't address this spot before the draft and if we don't get Jurrell Casey, I say we take the best available in the draft. Ayers, Miller, Quinn, and Beal are my top choices.
#4 OLine We need a new center and LG. Casey Wiegmann has been a vast improvement this year, but he is getting old, and against the big lines in the AFC west he was man handled. We also will be playing the NFC North and AFC south. We need someone that won't get pushed back in the pocket som much. I like the idea of drafting a mid round choice here and developing. I don't like Weigmann next year, but I think he has to do it one more year. We also need a good starting RT. Some people are saying that you could get a LT and move Albert over, but I think I agree with Waters on that one. He is a starting LT. Barry Richardson is a great Lineman without a true home. I think we need to pick someone up in the middle rounds of the draft for this possition. I honestly think that we have the answer to Brian Waters already in Asomoah. I will get some flack for this, but I think if we can get a 3 or 4 for Waters we should take it this year.
#5 QB. We need to address the back up role. I think that this can be done in UDFA or in FA this year. I think this should be a minimal amount of money. I like Leinart, Seneca Wallace, Boller.
#6 DBacks. We have some great starters, but we need a lot better depth. Also we need to get some more players that can play special teams.
Thanks for listening, and please join some discussion and let me know what you think. Even if you think I am an idiot :)

I should have also added RB
I think that we keep Jones for next year, but he is definately showing some signs of age. He is getting slow. I actually think that we shouldn’t really look too much into a new RB to replace him though. I like Jackie Battle. He has a 2.9 ypc, but most of those carries came in short yardage or in penny minutes where the defense knew he was going to run the ball. If anything we need to shore up the FB possition. Cox and Castille are both FA this year. If we do get a new RB, I would say look to the UDFA pool.

Jones
I don’t mind keeping Jones for one more year but Charles needs to get the ball more in the first half.
Also, John McGraw was in the game alot against Baltimore. He was slow and could not guard or takcle the tight end.
I agree with this
Except I don’t really see Leinart or Wallace being any better than Brodie Croyle.
I expect WR and SOLB to be addressed via draft, and free agency (if that happens) only addressing depth.

I definately think Wallace is better than Brodie
I think if you can get Leinart for somewhere around 1 mil per year, he is better than Croyle. Leinart had a completion percentage of 78% in the preseason. He just wouldn’t throw the deep ball. But I think he would be a great back up. I also think you are right about us picking up depth at both WR and SOLB during FA, but I really hope that we pick up a playmaker like Breaston, Santana Moss, Steve Smith, or even Lance Moore instead of picking up some hopefuls in the draft. There are a ton of young FA WR this year. I think the chiefs would be crazy to not try to get one.

I like your train of thought fleetmarine. I wish for at least 3 needs be addressed by FAs.
I would also add a #7 – RB to replace a loveable but wornout TJ.
I would also add a #8 – ILB to upgrade over Belcher who has poor change of direction and has wiffed too often on plays in front of him. (In our scheme all he is asked is to fill and pursue and he is slow at both. Bonus would be an ILB who can backpedal and cover better.
All this wishing makes me think….
….of the guy that had three wishes:
1) to be a verry rich man.
2) to be married to a super model.
3) to have a package that hung to within two feet of the ground.
POOOF !
- He became Bernie Maddoff and in jail.
POOOF !
- He found himself married to Fabio.
POOOF !
- He was now only 4-tall.
…… be carefull what you wish for.
