who should the chiefs add through free agency?

As tough as that game was to watch yesterday(mainly the 2nd half) I think something positive will come from that playoff game. NEWSFLASH: the chiefs dont have much of a passing game!  Yes the chiefs had a pretty good year and made significant improvements across the board but i think most of us know deep down that there is still room for improvement and we have a little ways to go before we can hang with the big boys(patriots, steelers, ravens, colts)of the AFC. I think that our defense is much improved(thanks to romeo crennel) and with the addition of one or two new players(NT & OLB) could be good enough to take us deep into the postseason. After the jump is my wishlist for who we should take a look at through free agency listed from most important on down

Star-divide

 Wide Reciever-

1) Vincent Jackson- If the chargers decide not to sign him to a longterm deal I think the chiefs have a shot at him simply because i think jackson would love the chance to play him former team twice a year!

2) Santonio Holmes- I know he has character issues and isnt what the chiefs and scott pioli look for in a player but he is super talented and could make a huge impact on our team and most importantly the development of Matt Cassel!

3) Steve Smith(NYG)- This is one that I could realistically see happening. Young solid player, fits into the Pioli mold and could be signed at a resonable price

4) Jacoby Jones or James Jones- We need so much help at reciever that either of these two makes sense and could be signed relatively cheap(i think)

5) Lance Moore or Santana Moss-both of these player would add a veteran presence to a team in need of a polished reciever

Right Tackle-

1) Ryan Harris(Denver)- still young(25) and has big upside

2) Jared Gaither- young player with massive size could hold down right side for a long time if the ravens let him walk

3) Jeron Bushrod- the saints really want to sign both of their pro bowl guards to longterm contracts and that may make Bushrod the odd man out

Outside Linebacker-

1) Mathias Kiwanuka- the giants are loaded on their front seven and Kiwanuka probably wont be resigned. I feel he is the best OLB available and would make an immediate impact starting opposite Tamba Hali

Nose Tackle

1) Aubrayo Franklin- Although he had a down year I still think he is the best NT available and we would have a legitimate chance to sign him

Other players that i like are Rocky McIntosh(MLB), Atari Bigby(S), Dawan Landry(S), Ronnie Brown(RB), Alan Branch(NT), Sean Locklear, Justin Hartwig(C)

I was wanting on this post

Ok me, I would like the chiefs to take a look at V.Jackson, S.Smith, for WR’S and mitchell for LB and maybe Franklin for NT!

I LOVE MY CHIEFS OH YEAH, B.Flowers is way underrated but they will all be witnesses!!! (sorry lebron)

I would take Steve Smith (despite injuries) and Lance Moore in an instant.

We will most likely just sign one WR, though. That would greatly free up our draft selections.

I eat nails for breakfast, tacks for snacks, and I sh*t nickel.

Why not just send (if they'll take it)

our 1st rd. pick to ariz.for LF.They are going to rebuild & the 21st pick in rd. 1 would be sweet for them.Besides who could we draft in the 1st rd. that would make that kind of an impact?

John Soellner

Steve Breaston? The guy has more skill than all of those guys with the exception of Holmes and Jackson. And he doesn’t have the character concerns those guys have. Franklin would be awesome, but I don’t see the 49ers letting him walk. Harbaugh is a 3-4 kind of guy.

Breaston or Lance Moore

I think we could get Breaston for a 4 year 22 million contract. Lance Moore for cheaper. I don’t see VJax or Santonio Holmes because of charector and also because I think both will want too much money. Besides we need a speed guy, Vjax is not that. I like Ryan Harris, and would LOVE gaither, but I don’t think he fits our zone blocking scheme unfortunately. OLB I hope we find in the draft. But Kiwanuka would be an upgrade. Unfortunately I think that most of the available NT will taken also, so we will have to draft that possition as well. Nice write up.

Smile, its the second best things you can do with your lips!

We've been doing the "bargain free agent WR" thing here for years and years

It is a difference making position. Overpay if need be and let us finally not have to cross our fingers that our wr’s will work out. I would love Jackson or Smith. Drafting a WR is a crapshoot-we can still try for one in the late rounds if needed.

Kiwanuka

Has had some bad injuries and will ask too much IMO

Cassel out, Andrew Luck in!

Vincent Jackson and Jared Gaither.......HELL NO!!!!!

We have discussed the Gaither thing before….to sum it up…..the Ravens aren’t high on him because he is lazy.

Vincent Jackson? 2 DUI’s and a guy that would holdout on his teammates for more than half a season when they’re trying to make a run at the playoffs and superbowl? No thanks.

The sterner the discipline, the greater the devotion.

Yes

I guess we’re assuming if FA happens, which I suppose is a pretty big “if.”

At wideout and linebacker

I think I’d rather go with a young fast guy. Definitely draft a WR in the first round, and maybe a good coverage LB in round two.

Franklin and Bigby might be good targets though.

Did Justin Hartwig even play this season? I like former Jaywhawks too, but….not washed up ones.

Being moderate in spending

Shaun Rogers NT (Crennel had him in Cleveland, yeah it’s stop gap but sowhat)
Jason Spitz C GB (never got his spot back after injury last year, can also backup G
Chase Blackburn LB NYG, good special teams and can backup all LB’s
Legedu Naanee WR SD, good size and speed
