Chiefs vs. Chargers: Stopping Jones, Charles Is The Top Priority
The Kansas City Chiefs enter the 2010 season much different than the 2009 season. That's because they actually have a strength on offense -- the running game.
The Chiefs figure to lean heavily on those two particularly against a tough opponent like the San Diego Chargers on Monday Night Football.
The San Diego Union-Tribune has a scouting report on the Chiefs focusing on their running game and they include a quote from Chargers LB Brandon Siler, who says stopping the Chiefs run game is their number one priority.
"A lot of it is playing assignment football," Siler says. "If everyone mans their gap, and tackles well, we can minimize their effectiveness and contain what they do. Stopping the run against the Chiefs would definitely get this defense on the right track this season. Stopping the run is our top priority."
This will be one of the Chiefs first big tests. The Chargers have a solid defense but were just 20th in rushing yards allowed.
This game will give the Chiefs an opportunity to showcase their new look running game. We can start to determine just how good they'll be with this game as the Chargers focus in on stopping them.

Oh no!
They discovered our secret! Solid game planning here!
What's the difference between jelly and jam?
seeing as how their Secondary is weakened IMO
and how our passing game is less than stellar, they are probably right about stopping the run. Hopefully if we pound the ball hard we can open up the passing game. I think if we can successfully pass the ball on them we are going to beat them. A 2-3 TD game from Cassel in the air, set up by their attention on the run would really take the wind out of their sails.
The picture is a Chiefs pumpkin, yeah that is right a Chiefs pumpkin.
I hope we
pound the ball hard too. Chicks love that.
Big Gulps EH????? All right.....Welp....See Ya Later!
I'm sure the game plan has been set...
if they stop the run -—> dink and dunk the hell out of them with screens and 5-yd dumps to Charles / Bowe / McCluster / Chambers
2010 Chiefs are on the rise. This is the most excited I've been since 'Nam...

Charbroiled Chargers
When you can’t catch up to Charles or McCluster how in the hell do you plan on stopping them???
There Will Be A Rising Of The Stars In 2010. You don't have to prepare, you don't have to watch, but they will come for you, and they will come for what's rightfully theirs. Lamar Hunt Trophy Watch 2010 has started. Are you ready?
not to forget how
Thomas Jones will run your ass over. I hope merriman who’s banged up, tries to be heroic and plays. TJ will end his year when we go right at his bitch ass. :)
Getting pumped! Pound it, then use speed. Then god I hope we are smart enough to use a little play action to Bowe. I like that slant look against Green Bay, that was sexy. Come on O line give him time to throw the rock when we need to.!!
Hell yeah!!!! Get pumped up!!!
I would give you a big high five on that if I could!!!! Wooohooo!!!
"One of the teams asked me a running back question," McCluster said. "They said when you have the ball, do you focus on the guy who's in front of you or the next guy.
"I told them 99% of the time, I'm going to make that first guy miss. Then, I'm onto the next."

If they're trying to stop the run...
our great Matt Cassel should be eating them alive with those screen passes….
God typed "iddqd" before creating Jason Heyward.
Flea Flicker on the first play
Lets take advantage of their concentration towards the running game right off the bat and hit Horne for a score.
+1
I’d love to see it. You know they wouldn’t expect it.

Can't wait
Can you imagine if Charles breaks off a couple 20yrd runs to open the game. Cassel would have a field day with the play action.
Our balanced offense attack will be so much fun to watch. When is the last time we had threats like Charles and McCluster who could take it to the house at any second.
"One of the teams asked me a running back question," McCluster said. "They said when you have the ball, do you focus on the guy who's in front of you or the next guy.
"I told them 99% of the time, I'm going to make that first guy miss. Then, I'm onto the next."

Unless we fall behind big early
I don’t see any way Charles is contained in this game. The Eagles D is far better up front than SDs, and Jamaal ran at will against them in his limited opportunities. I think he’ll go for 150 yards rushing.
Predictions:
This year will be better
I don't see them stopping the run.
Their front seven is less then impressive and I wouldn’t say it got any better over the offseason.
"Success is never ending, failure is never final."
Having Jamaal Williams out of there
really hurts their efforts at stopping the run. I don’t care how much they love Cam Thomas. He isn’t going to be half the NT Williams was for them as a rook.
So basically,
their game plan is the game plan that everyone has against everyone. “Stop the run.”

that good defense is another year older. and not in a good, maturing and growing kind of way...

I remember back in 2004, when Gunther first came back, and there were articles in the paper with Chiefs players saying the exact same thing.
I have a feeling a lot of people will be watching this game
More so than any other year had we played on TV because now we are exciting to watch. AWW man I hope we can Create MORE CHIEFS IN THIS BI***

Chiefs start 4-0. Yes the colts lose to us.

If the Chiefs can go for 175-200 rushing
With a combination of Charles, TJ, Dex and Battle then I think we win. For those going to the game, please do your best to make arrowhead the old arrowhead. The keys to the game are the crowd noise, run game and defense. The latter feeds off the first!

Everyone going, i better hear
That arrowhead chant all game! I want to hear stomping! I want to see arms chomping! I can’t express enough how important the crowd is. The defense needs you!

Ohhhh Man! Take Rivers Out!
We need to pressure, pressure, pressure Rivers, and run the ball all over them. If we empose our will on them, then they will cave. This is the Norv Turner Dolts, not the Marty Dolts! I think this will be a great game! I"m 6 th row by the Tunnel and can’t freakin wait!! GO CHIEFS! People are going to be blown away when they see how loud and how loyal the fans are with a team that has went 4-12 the past two years!
I wouldn't mind seeing that whiny face.
And if we could break his leg or something, that’d be fantastic.

I think the only tickets available

Wish I Could be there!
I am a Mo. Native and now I live in Washington State. My son and I flew out there for the first time in over 20 years to watch KC game last year. I can’t wait to see the New Aarowhead
When a player says "we need to stop the run"
That’s code for “theyre gonna run through us like a bad burrito”
...And as the roar of 80,000 red-clad great plains warriors fills the hallowed halls of Arrowhead, it will strike fear into the hearts of lesser men. For on that field, individual men toil for something greater than individual honors. They toil as brothers-in-arms, as 53 spirits striving towards a single purpose and driven by a single goal: The glory that comes with vanquishing your foes. They will achieve their birthright, they will be champions.

START CHARLES!
Charles may be one of the best running backs in the NFL. Thomas Jones should be a goal line/ 3rd down running back.
i agree
i’m still baffled to as why Charles is not the starter. in fact, from reading articles from a variety of sources, it seems that the only ones who are not questioning the decision to start Jones are a lot of the fans who participate on this site. I just don’t get it.
It will def be run by committee
And they will let the flow of the game dictate who gets more carries (Charles)….
I was mad as $#%@ when we drafted Dexter McCluster and now I'm ordering his jersey......oh the irony! Go Chiefs!

I would throw it deep on the first play of the game.
If Haley calls a running play on our first play of the game I’ll be pissed. We should be able to catch them with play action alot if their keying on the run.

i was just thinking the same thing
it reminds me of that year we snuck into the playoffs against the colts. the whole week herm talked about establishing the run. I really hoped that first play would be play action but nope. we were stuck in the run, run, pass, punt offense
