Chiefs WR Quinten Lawrence Returns; NT Garrett Brown Released
Last weekend the Kansas City Chiefs made a waiver claim on nose tackle Anthony Toribio, who was waived by the Green Bay Packers on the final cut down day.
The Chiefs found out Sunday morning that they had acquired Toribio so, to make room for his arrival on the roster, they released WR Quinten Lawrence from the active roster.
Two days later and Lawrence is back.
The Chiefs announced that Lawrence has been signed to the practice squad. He was a 2009 draft pick so he's familiar with the Chiefs scheme.
To make room for Lawrence, rookie nose tackle Garrett Brown was released from the practice squad.
Expect more practice squad shuffling as the Chiefs and the rest of the league. Guys like Lawrence are valuable to the Chiefs because he can quickly be ready if he's ever needed on the active roster.

Man I wish
That they would make up their minds about Lawrence…
I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.
I like keeping Lawrence around
Wish they could have kept Brown though.
to add to that thought
He was placed on IR versus making the 53 cut
The Chiefs will finish .500 or better in 2010.
sorry, I guess I misspelled it

Another way of saying OK. It is not used by the principal of South Park Elementary, it is used by the guidance counselor. It is also used by the teacher from the cartoon Beavis and Butthead.
Drugs are bad, mmkay?
Chiefs WILL!
I don't even know what is un-hipsterness
And I am too old to care :)
I get along here on AP

But we've got two Fullbacks on roster? and two Centers.

This proves it beyond of a shadow of doubt
The 2009 draft was a great success.
The 2010 draft however was a smorgasbord of nonsense.

Way way too early
To pass any judgements on the 2010 draft class…
Old guys rule...yeah you might have youth and talent on your side...but I have time and treachery...

"Guys like Lawrence are valuable to the Chiefs because he can quickly be ready if he's ever needed on the active roster."
this is a good point
KC essentially can keep more than 61 guys on the roster by having guys like Lawrence and others around that know the system, and are a phone call away
this should be the most exciting Chiefs team in years! Most major needs filled with playmakers, and the league's best coaching staff... 10-6 a possibility?
flip side though
any team can snag him at anytime and put him on their 53. Practice Squad isn’t the ideal place to be “hiding” talent needed on this squad.
The picture is a Chiefs pumpkin, yeah that is right a Chiefs pumpkin.
and Im not calling Lawrence
talent needed on this squad by any means. Just that look at what happened to us with Lilja the first time.
The picture is a Chiefs pumpkin, yeah that is right a Chiefs pumpkin.
I hear ya
I was also referring to the guys that got cut, and didn’t make the PS
yes, other teams COULD snatch them up… but… will they? doesn’t look like it.
it’s a risk, sure… but, if the Chiefs were THAT worried about losing these guys… they’d be on the 53

yeah that is what strikes me about some of these guys that made the squad
I think they are trying to hide them on the roster. With the flashes that Greenwood showed I think they were worried he may slip away, and one of the other LB’s I cant remember his name Coles maybe, apparently he was on everyone cut list but made the team.

Justin Cole didn't look that great in preseason, IMO
I think he was expendable given our depth at ILB. Would have liked to have kept an O-Lineman like E.K. Ndukwe or Colin Brown instead.
Greenwood didn’t show much until that last game where he looked like an animal. I agree that he probably wouldn’t have lasted long on our PS.
absolutely agree

Tyler Palko
Could be sitting in a town house in OP and the Chiefs would be the only ones calling. I see the probabability is that he can practice with us and in the worst case get elevated to the active roster. But we could do that with any QB.

Don't see how he's an upgrade over Gutierez
Though I guess Gut isn’t PS eligible anymore.
Predictions:
This year will be better
and who would you cut from the 53?

I'd go Bobbitt and Cut Cox
But I wouldn’t just throw him out the winda, I’d just do it nice and gentle like.

i'm very happy
kid will be a good #4/5 WR. this is probably coopers last year here. if quinten makes the effort that is.
Tough times never last, but tough people do.
COPPER.
It’s Terrance Copper. Does nobody remember this dude cathing balls for the Saints? Why does everyone underrate him so much?
And why in the world would you assume that Quinten Lawrence of all people would be a better option than Copper? He’s fast and that’s pretty much it. Doesn’t cut it.
I know people desperately want last year’s draft to not be a failure, but let’s just accept the fact that we found a good kicker, cross our fingers for Tyson Jackson, and move on. It was a garbage draft full of garbage players, several not even on anyone’s draft board.
And I hope Terrance Copper sticks around.

Washington and Magee still have upside

And they two guys we grabbed with our 2nd round pick have seen a lot of playing time

Um...
Magee is 3rd string and has seen no movement. I hope he turns into something, but I’m not holding my breath.
Donald Washington was considered very athletic but raw coming out of the draft, and has been moved from CB to FS to SS.. seems like they’re trying to force him to fit somewhere, and I don’t really expect much out of him.
Vrabel and Cassel? I wasn’t including them but glad you brought them up. Vrabel isn’t bad but nothing that he used to be and I ‘d bet money that this is his last year. He’s definitely not worth a second.
Cassel isn’t even worth a draft pick period. So what’s your point?
If playing time is how you measure worth here, you’re sorely mistaken. Vrabel is playing for veteran leadership in the new scheme.. Cassel is playing because he’s making 63 million dollars.
AS I WAS SAYING… can we please stop kidding ourselves about last year’s draft?

Your favoritism is showing :)

you dont think cassel and vrabel combined wasnt worth a 2nd round pick?
cassel may not be elite but you cant find much QBs in the 2nd round that make that big of production right away
vrabel is a hall of famer. hes past his prime but he really brought an attitude to this defense.
I say it was a steal to get vrabel and cassel wih only a second rounder.
Player who NEEDS to step up: Matt cassel
Breakout players: Belcher, Gilberry, Moeaki
Early prediction for offensive MVP: Jamaal Charles
Early prediction for defensive MVP: Tamba Hali
Making a point is impossible
To people who say irrational things like Cassel isn’t worth ANY draft pick…he wasn’t the worst QB in the league last year, and most of the guys who were worse than him were also draft picks, so even his poor performance last year was worth SOME draft pick…

I have no delusions about the 2009 draft but you are being far too critical of some of the players in my opinion. I even made a FanPost talking about Cassel’s stats and lack of performance but Vrabel has been invaluable to teaching this team how to do things the right way and Cassel hasn’t exactly pulled a JaMarcus Russell on us and sat around sipping Purple Drank and getting fat. I think we might see some improvement from him this season.
I'm more happy that they must like Toribio that much
Lawrence is cool, but, its not too difficult to find ST’s guys that can play 5th WR. We need a NT that can mix it up with Edwards and Smith.
I'd rather be a failure at something I love than a success at something I hate.

I don't see much value added if we have to put Quinten Lawrence in our lineup
I can’t claim to know everything about football but after watching Chiefs football for the past 22 years, if we have to scoop to get QL into our lineup, we will be 1-15, 3-13 ball club.

he's on the practice squad and plays decent special teams
Just about right for a guy on the ps
I'd rather be a failure at something I love than a success at something I hate.

I wished Garrett Brown would have had enough to make the roster. I guess a year in the UFL might do it?
