NFL Roster Cuts: Chiefs Cut Signs With Another Team

I believe the first player cut by the Kansas City Chiefs last weekend has found a new home.

Interior offensive lineman Lemuel Jeanpierre was signed by the Seattle Seahawks. He was part of the initial group of cuts for the Chiefs.

All the Chiefs players cut were not vested veterans meaning they went through waivers after being released. It means that all the teams had a shot at signing that particular player but declined.

Here are the Chiefs players that were released that haven't found a new home: TE Leroy Banks, WR Rich Gunnell, G/T Ike Ndukwe, CB Mike Richardson, LB John Russell, G Dan Santucci, T/G Colin Brown, LB David Herron, NT Derek Lokey, S DaJuan Morgan and RB Javarris Williams.

All of the members of the Chiefs practice squad were cut and passed through waivers before signing as well.

Get used to some of the names above. I imagine we'll see one or two of them return at some point during the season because they're familiar with the offensive or defensive system.

Have any of the other cuts signed to this point? My research said no.

Now he's cleared waivers maybe someone places him on PS.

Probably has some football IQ stuff to work out, but is good material for PS and eventual promotion. Good runner, but needs to round out his game.

Russell's been moving around. Chief's got him from Green Bay, August 3rd.

Russell (6-4, 280) originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with Green Bay in 2010. He played in 51 games (29 starts) at Wake Forest, recording 137 tackles, 19.0 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, an INT, a pass defensed, two fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles. Russell prepped at Bolles High School in Jacksonville, Florida, helping lead the team to a 14-0 record and the Florida 3A State Championship as a senior.

I figured DaJaun Morgan

would have already been picked up by…Gunther Cunningham…and the Lions…already…

There's still something about him

that makes me think he can be a good player. Even if he never develops into a starter, I still think he could at least be a special teams beast like Gary Stills and Mike Maslowski once were.

Agreed

I knew that he would get cut based on depth/performance this off-season, but I like him too. I wish we had kept him at least on the practice squad.

I feel bad for Quinten Lawrence too. He wasn’t that good or anything, but for some reason, I liked him and Morgan.

I agree

I figured the Lions would be all over Morgan

isn't Schwartz also a defensive guy?

Maybe he’s smarter than Gun.

I remember the draft

when the Chiefs selected him. I was watching my top 100, and he was just sitting there on the list with large blank spaces above and below him. A lot of teams went around him… WAY around him! I think maybe they knew something that Herm didn’t.

Slightly off subject,

but just read that Steelers made Keyaron Fox their special teams captain. I couldn’t believe we let that guy go.

by KCMizzou on Sep 6, 2010 3:55 PM CDT reply actions

Yeah, BUT

he wasn’t that good with us, and the systems are different enough that players could succeed in one, but not the other. For example, we took Kendrell Bell from the steelers after he had some great years, but he couldn’t do anything for us.

Actually, I guess that just means that, at the time, the steelers d was better coached. Gun version 2.0 and Clancy Pendergast were bums though.

He was last year too

and I thought he filled in well for injured guys. I remember him having a few 9-11 tackle games while filling for Derrick Johnson, who somehow can manage to go entire games without a single tackle.

I know that the Chief's are pretty well set at RB, but did anyone else think that

Kestahn Moore looked really good? Also, wasn’t he injured? Does he have a future in KC?

by jcox31mc on Sep 6, 2010 4:19 PM CDT reply actions

I thought Moore looked pretty good

I really thought he’d get put on the Practice Squad.

Glad he found a home

He’s always open. He catches a lot of balls. He’s un-guardable, no matter how old he is

by soybon on Sep 6, 2010 5:09 PM CDT via mobile reply actions

Definitely. There are still some acquisitions to be made.

My guess is that Joel is busy working on the ambulance at practice story.

He better be.

If not, we need to hire ourselves someone who is more dedicated and works harder.

What IF??

Anybody watching the Miami and Dallas game on NFL Network? I can’t believe I am saying this, but I would love to see Thigpen in the mix for the Chiefs and given an open and honest chance. He is looking real good.

by JmanS22 on Sep 6, 2010 5:49 PM CDT reply actions

I'm watching it.

He is able to make to make some tough throws. You really get the sense that having him on the field gives your team a chance to compete. I don’t think he wins an outright QB competition, but he makes a great 3rd QB option. Better fit for Miami’s offense though IMHO. By the way, what compensation did we receive for him? If memory serves it was a 6 rd…
