NFL Roster Cuts: Chiefs Cornerback Depth Chart
The Kansas City Chiefs made their cuts for the roster cut down day and didn't leave themselves a lot of depth at cornerback.
The Chiefs starting corners -- Brandon Flowers and Brandon Carr -- have very little competition. It looks like Maurice Leggett's trip to IR will guarantee Javier Arenas the nickelback job.
If any of those guys go down, I think you have a few worried coaches.
LCB: Brandon Flowers, Jackie Bates
RCB: Brandon Carr, Javier Arenas, Travis Daniels
The Chiefs released Mike Richardson and Ricky Price from the active roster and sent Leggett to IR last weekend.
Brandon Carr has been an iron man since coming onto the Chiefs while Flowers missed a game last year with a shoulder injury, so I don't think these guys will miss much if any time.
I think the backup cornerback role is the one some were hoping Donald Washington would occupy. But he's been moved to free safety and is listed on the third team there. The Chiefs cornerbacks are a strength, no doubt, but there's not a whole lot behind them. Javier Arenas would be the top cornerback replacement forcing another into the nickelback role.
Thoughts on the Chiefs cornerbacks after the cut to 53-men? Am I just being nit picky about the backups?

Kinda nit picky
Although your thoughts are very true…remember this team is just in it’s second year in the making. Even Super Bowl teams lack some depth in some areas.
Let’s just hope Flowers and Carr stay very healthy!
"One of the teams asked me a running back question," McCluster said. "They said when you have the ball, do you focus on the guy who's in front of you or the next guy.
"I told them 99% of the time, I'm going to make that first guy miss. Then, I'm onto the next."

this is one of my concerns, for sure
Daniels actually had a pretty good camp, based on reports out of St Joe
But, I am not too comfortable w either.
Maybe, though…. the versatility of Safeties like Washington and Berry could allow one of them to fill in?
this should be the most exciting Chiefs team in years! Most major needs filled with playmakers, and the league's best coaching staff... 10-6 a possibility?

Berry was talked about as playing CB when he was coming out
so I would definitely say that they will play him as a nickelback/dimeback if necessary, especially if injuries become a problem

I liked what I saw/heard of Jackie Bates and Travis Daniels
Bates is short but he is scrappy and with more time to develop could become a decent 4th/5th CB. Daniels had some nice days at camp and has a lot of experience in the league. He may not be the best but he might be able to come in to the game as a backup and play decently
Not picky at all.
The depth of the corners is a definite concern. If either one of them gets hurt, we’re in trouble. Arenas hasn’t appeared ready at all. After those three, it gets REALLY dirty.
yes, definite concern
if you recall, at beginning of last year we thought secondary was a strength. As the year went on and injuries mounted, it was not.
Chiefs WILL!
I see at least two reasonable explanations to this:
1) Bates or Daniels are better than we think or give them credit for.
2) Versatility – Washington is listed at safety, but maybe they are comfortable with him coming in and playing some limited CB. In addition Berry could play CB for a game or two if one of the starters go down.
Bates looked solid vs Green Bay, I thought.
The Chiefs will see a return to respectability in 2010, emerging as the front runner in the AFC West! ....And I'll quantify that however I choose. Ahem.
With the new regime you never know what they are thinking about anyone
Like McCluster – you know they love him – however in preseason; as if they were trying to hide him and not admit that he is really good. It could be they know they are solid at CBs, but don’t want to make it public.

I really liked what I saw from Bates in GB. I think he showed serious potential, and he has been kept for a reason.
and I also agree with the below comment that we were hiding certain players in certain roles.
Team Pioli/Haley. Decade of the Chiefs.
Team Colquitt
I've heard several positive comments on Bates
and I don’t get it at all.
I wasnt impressed before GB, I think hes really raw, but there is something there, he has a knack for being around the ball, and his zone/man coverage is pretty darn good.
he may get cut…who knows…but for parts of that game he showed potential…and at DB you can look downright awful at times or spectacular(larry brown in the super bowl for dallas)…I think he showed the little things that you see from corners who stick around. We shall see
Team Pioli/Haley. Decade of the Chiefs.
Team Colquitt
saying that, hes a 4 db...hes not your starter, but he may be able to come in on an injury...there is a reason he keeps sticking around

Off subject but
I found an eliminator pool for fans of kansas city at espn (survivor pool). I joined (lights35out) and it is only me and the guy who made it at the moment..there are other "fans of xxxxxx" pools that have alot more members. Dont seem right. If you want to join go to fantasy football at espn, find the eliminattor challenge under mini games, search for "dans of kansas city" and join. Pick one winner a week until you are eliminated.
*"fans of kansas city"
Sorry for all the fails
vasher maybe
I have a feeling that 2010 will be a defining year for the Kansas City Chiefs. Do we become the 2001 Patriots or footballs version of the royals??

I watched last seasons Broncos game in week 17 yesterday...
Not feeling confident with Carr as the Chiefs starting CB…
Other Arenas wish they could be like Arrowhead Stadium and when rivals think they are going to be fine on an island of Flowers, they will get hit by what feels like a Carr. Ultimately, they will never be able to eat a Berry ever again.
yeah I have that on DVR, watched it quite a few times...It wasnt a great game for him, I think hes learned from it a bit, we will see
hes a smart football player. I think we will use him differently this year in that he wil line up on bigger WR’s with arenas taking more time against a 2 WR set that has 2 speedsters

Coach Emmitt is doing good things
and think our depth is better than you all think. I am curious about Leggett and the length of time he will spend on IR, is it all season?
yes, all year. he will be back for OTA's next year

D-Wash is listed as a safety but can play a role that is either, or the 3rd safety on the field if you want speed over mcgraw
obviously with an injury we would be concerned, but that can be said about any position outside of running back on this team at this point.

Leggett a Big loss
I thought he was OK. They thought he’d be back at practice. Sounds like he had a serious setback. Fastest guy on team now that Lawrence is gone. Daniels is a decent physical CB.
bwahahaaaaa fastest guy on the team. im pretty sure this one guy...jamaal you might have heard of him is just a litlle bit faster
o and that Dexter hes got some feet on him too!
