He's listed as a DE by the Chiefs I believe
which would be why he’s listed that way in the article.
Bask in the glory that is Kwame Harris. Poor Alex...
but... yes
Smith WOULD be the backup at NT and DE at this point
But, I suspect roster moves at QB and NT may be coming soon
this should be the most exciting Chiefs team in years! Most major needs filled with playmakers, and the league's best coaching staff... 10-6 a possibility?

Herm had this team so torn down that nothing could have been worse. Can’t wait to see us in a couple more years under Todd and Scott.

Yes, and thank god for the waiver hunt. O-line is looking this as usual. Some of these players need to stay worried, because I’m pretty sure we’re required to have four tackles and gaurds. That leaves us one short on each. I’m suprised to see Colin Brown go, room for Levi Brown maybe? And I don’t know who, but someone should be shitting his pants for when our new QB (Leinhart maybe?) roles into town.

There isn't anyone on the market that could realistically push Croyle for the 2nd QB roll.

Leinart still thinks he is at USC
where Pete Carroll would hold his hand and pussify him.
"The Hammer"
Just put this up on the last thread (won't get much action there).... I was late to todays party:
My thoughts:
The Urban on IR is a surprise.
Huzzah! Good bye Palko.
Awww. Sorry to see Lokey go. He was comically fat and looked a lot like Curly.
I ‘m surprised Justin Cole made the team… he’ll be one of the first to go after we hit other teams’ scrap heaps.
Congrats to Cory Greenwood. He looks like a good special teamer.
Congrats to Horne. Looks like a decent speed threat.
The departure of Morgan leaves (by my count) only one of Herm’s bubble draft picks – Barry Richardson.
A lot of OL depth was released… looks like Pioli’s going to be looking elsewhere for OL help…
Updated:
Shaun Smith still counts as a NT.
It’s funny that Page got traded to the Pats… Pioli must be wanting Bill to work him over a little. And he thought Haley was tough… lol.

right on both counts. tj would be an upgrade for the 3rd WR or 4th WR, and could

He is not elite but he is still okay.
It was about the money not the performance. The old regime paid way too much for him, and they wanted out from the contract. I don’t want him, and I don’t think there is any chance he is a chief, but I also think he is still decent.

Just to clarify your post...
Greenwood almost blocked the punt… then he laid out the offensive lineman on a massive hit. Leaving the lineman out of the game for the rest of the game.
Go Chiefs!!!!
If he'd taken out the LB/S who teamed up with the kicker to stop Arenas, that might've been a TD.
No way that OL catches Arenas or even causes him much of a problem.
Still some great hustle, though. A lot to like about this kid.

Go Chiefs!!!!
Copper is a better blocker and ST player than Lawrence imo
only thing Q has is good speed and so-so hands.
Also, Magee and Cox both have looked pretty weak this off-season. At least Magee has the excuse of switching schemes and only being a 2nd year player from the 3rd round; Cox has just been flat, looks like he’s regularly picking the wrong lead blocks and not showing a lot of power or strength like you’d expect from a solid FB.
Bask in the glory that is Kwame Harris. Poor Alex...
Lawrence made a nice ST stop in that last preseason game.
Neither one of ’em has wowed as a WR, yet, but Lawrence does have more top-end speed.
"I ain't lyin' 'bout nothin'."

If Cox stays, then Castille has to go
I just don’t think they are going to keep to FBs on the roster. But they’ll probably prove me wrong.

From that WILB spot, he’s sorta staying at home and being the guy who lets the other guys just focus on doing one thing, while he worries about the HB trying to sneak into the pattern or whatever else the younger kids fail to account for. NEWS FLASH........
Vrabel is subject aging just like the rest of humanity!
13 years in the NFL is a long time, especially when his entire 3 years at ILB for the Steelers was spent as a backup.
Bask in the glory that is Kwame Harris. Poor Alex...
Umm...
I was clearly stating a fact. He played ILB. He is still the smartest LB we have. Also age isnt as big a factor in the 3-4 because the ILBs dont have to flow sideline to sideline, as a MLB in a 4-3 would have to. They handle their half on the field. The 3-4 is about guys following their schemes and doing their jobs. The rest of the defense relies on the fact that everybody is doing their job.
So him being old and slow, is not a concern. Hell Brandon Spikes ran a 5.05 forty. But he still is great in a 3-4.
Is JC Jesus Christ or Jamaal Charles? I think they both will be our savior.
by 25JCPavedTheWay on Sep 4, 2010 10:49 PM CDT up reply actions
I don't care about his speed as an ILB
I care about the fact that at 37, he doesn’t have the durability to play any extensive time at ILB anymore. And I never once disputed the fact that he played ILB, I simply pointed out that he played it 10-13 years ago and saw nothing but backup time while doing it (meaning he wasn’t anything to write home about as an ILB). Vrabel was physically capable of playing ILB 10 years ago, granted. Is he physically capable of playing ILB NOW? Not for any real length of time.
Bask in the glory that is Kwame Harris. Poor Alex...
I understand...
I feel that in certain situations, he would be more than serviceable. Obviously he isnt going to see the majority of any snaps. Wether it be as ILB or OLB…

IMO Williams + DJ in one body would be well rounded
and I trust Romeo to rotate them to play to both of their strengths, however I really worried for the offenses that are great at running the no huddle that can exploit the fact that we can’t change players. Indy, NE, NO, GB and probably SD can burn us on that ( I know we don’t play that entire list, just saying :) )
we are saved this year from the no huddle with the removal of the ref
Team Pioli/Haley. Decade of the Chiefs.
Team Colquitt
That might change before the season starts...
The Indy/GB game showed how much it hurt Peyton Manning… he couldn’t get into his rhythm, and when he did… he ended up getting a penalty.
Go Chiefs!!!!
i wonder how they would change it so that wouldn't be a problem
i don’t see them changing that rule back because it limits guys like peyton. over the years, lots of changes have been made for safety reasons that have “held back” portions of the game.
look at all the changes made to the Dline over the years. nobody changed those back because guys that played like deacon jones weren’t thriving anymore.
i’m not saying you’re wrong, i’m just wondering where the middleground will be. because you can be sure the NFL wants to protect its refs just as much as they’ve been going on about protecting the players lately. i just dont see it getting “reverted”
if rhymes were valiums, i'd be comfortably numb

I believe that the rule is going to have to be flexible...
The above post was more regurgitation of the talking heads… saying that the officiating was going to review the rule before the season goes in…
The only thing that I can think of that would help out would be that the players must get the ball to the line judges to place the ball. and then have the ref get into position. Only problem is that the line judge would be out of position in the hurry up offense.
I believe the rule will stay, but there will be some sort of modification where it isn’t called all the time… I’m sure that there is something else that can help keep the game moving, I just haven’t heard it yet.
Go Chiefs!!!!
They've already changed the rule once during the preseason
It was initially set up that the ball couldn’t be snapped until the ump was set in his spot 15 yds behind the line of scrimmage. Now the offense can roll once the ump gets behind the offensive player furthest from the O-line. The ball can be snapped while the ref is moving.
When Peyton whines, the NFL listens. Which is absolute crap
16-0 here we come!!!!
I can't disagree that Belcher and Williams deserve playing time or starting. Guess it a good thing we are having this discussion..Remember last year? i

Williams needs to be promoted to strongside lb....he's better than either Mays or Belcher.

One thing I'm happy about...
The roster size is now manageable. Kind of hard to remember 80 names, numbers and talents.

or 80 names, numbers, and lacks of talent
"On this team, we fight for that inch. On this team, we tear ourselves, and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We CLAW with our finger nails for that inch. Cause we know when we add up all those inches that's going to make the fucking difference between WINNING and LOSING between LIVING and DYING!
I'll tell you this in any fight it is the guy who is willing to die who is going to win that inch. And I know if I am going to have any life anymore it is because, I am still willing to fight, and die for that inch because that is what LIVING is.

Meh...
talent may have been the wrong choice… “ability” might have been better.

They must be working on something
I don’t think we can go into the season with 2 QB’s and this O-line depth.
Cassel is pretty freaking tough though...
About a hundred sacks over a couple of years and he’s still walking around and speaking in complete sentences.

Pioli likes to have a young developmental guy on the roster.
The will sign one of the many cut today. I thought they might wait to cut Palko until they signed one, but I guess he was so bad that they knew they can’t do any worse.
Yeah, exactly what I said earlier
There was really no point in keeping Palko on the roster, because there will be no shortage of guys who can do at least as well, and probably better. I think he was one of the easiest cuts of all.
Not shocked by any of the cuts.
Colin Brown and Dion Gales will end up on the practice squad as long as someone else doesn’t sign them.
Seems likely.
Gales has made progress since last year.
"I ain't lyin' 'bout nothin'."
"Oh? So what exactly are you lying about?"
Same here
I wasn’t expecting any shockers, and didn’t get any. Some mild surprises, but nothing close to Pollard a year ago. Now that they have all guys who buy into the system, it’s mostly comes down to talent and production, which is what you want. The headcases are gone.
Bowe was buying in last year
He still has a way to go, but he was always first to hug Haley after a big play or win, so it’s pretty clear to me they have a pretty good relationship, even though Haley has been hard on him. I think Bowe understands that’s exactly what he needs.
hes far different this year, there is no bowe show....not sure if that will equal concentration or not though...I hope they just stick with his strengths
Team Pioli/Haley. Decade of the Chiefs.

So far, so good
In the preseason, anyway. Bowe has a chance to be pretty special if he keeps buying in.
OG Max Jean Gilles
Released by Eagles. I’m into it.
Ride the Wave, Tame the Tiger, Hear Energy Roar!
Talented guard...but not sure he's athlete enough for the zone scheme on offense.
if we were just manning up and pounding people man-to-man, he’d be perfect. That’s why Philly snagged him in the draft two (3?) yrs back.
He’ll be good for someone…St Louis or MN maybe, they both run Philly’s offense.

He reported to camp over 400 lbs
I doubt that excites Haley too much. I remember hearing on a Sunday night pre-season game they were talking about some of the minor health issues he was already beginning to experience due to his weight. He’s surely talented but it sounds as if his weight will end his career prematurely.
cuts
RB J. Williams needs to be on the practice squad, they the Chiefs, can’t let this talented guy get away…..
I believe someone said hes a game past being eligible

o joy -
Lawrence and Copper still here.
Any reason they need 10 linebackers ?
He’s always open. He catches a lot of balls. He’s un-guardable, no matter how old he is
Hey now!
You must not have watched the Denver game last season. Copper made some great plays. That and he is EXCELLENT on ST…
Is JC Jesus Christ or Jamaal Charles? I think they both will be our savior.

We have so much freaking cap room that....
we need to grab some real talent and quit wasting our time with these wanna be’s …. grab some serious vets for pennies and let’s roll!
Umm..
You must not know football. For the record, this is an UNcapped season. Just because you have the money, doesn’t mean you HAVE to spend it. How do you think rich people stay rich? They don’t waste their money on bullshit.

Do you watch football?
There are no “serious vets” worth wasting money on. Besides that, I find it hard to get behind signing guys on their last legs like Zach Thomas and Bobby Engram.
Bask in the glory that is Kwame Harris. Poor Alex...
Yes, beleive it or not I do watch football...
Im just trying to say we can’t find upgrades to copper and lawrence for relatively the same money or a little more….
I fail to see why we need to replace Copper
He’s cheap and is a more-than-serviceable blocker and ST player.
Bask in the glory that is Kwame Harris. Poor Alex...
I do like his special teams play and agree with that but...
you could probably get a housh, clayton, or walked for a few more bucks and put are offense in another category with all of the weapons… again, just my 2 cents…
You can only put so many WRs on the field at once
Housh is old and wouldn’t be worth the time or money, Clayton is…meh, I’d rather have a solid blocking WR and ST player in Copper. I’m assuming you meant “walker” instead of “walked”, as in Javon Walker; if so, Walker is done in the NFL. Not being able to stick in MIN despite Rice being out for the season is a death knell.
Bask in the glory that is Kwame Harris. Poor Alex...
did mean walker and may be bad example...
but housh can be gotten cheap as seattle is gonna pick up the remaining tab… and the man can catch!
That's what _I_ was thinking, too.
Could be a real bargain, and he’d give the Chiefs a nice weapon. Chiefs could go with 3 legit bigs at WR, which can be a big help in chain-moving and scoring from inside the 20. He’s “old,” like Toomer and Engram were, but he’s also BIG.
"I ain't lyin' 'bout nothin'."
"Oh? So what exactly are you lying about?"
Lawrence and Copper are looking more and more like football players, and...
… they still have athletic up-side to grow into, is my guess.
"I ain't lyin' 'bout nothin'."
"Oh? So what exactly are you lying about?"
casey starts over rudy.
How long are they going to keep marching Rudy out there as starting center, he is a backup guard at best.

agreed
That’s how they are going w only 3 guards… rudy backs up all 3 interior positions
this should be the most exciting Chiefs team in years! Most major needs filled with playmakers, and the league's best coaching staff... 10-6 a possibility?

definitely, but I still wont hold much to this depth chart
Team Pioli/Haley. Decade of the Chiefs.
Team Colquitt
I've been asking that since 2006.
But if we put ten pounds on him, he’d be an above-average guard…athletic enough for the zone, good enough technique (and added bulk) to handle some man-to-man assignments…
Again, this is conditional on his never playing fulltime center again (too tall, gets blown up) and adding 8-10 lbs of muscle.

Why Jackie Bates is still on this team is beyond me.
He got torched all preseason. He’s got to be the first guy gone if they pick someone up.
Curious to see if the Lions
Pickup Morgan, Gun was in love with him, waste of a pick I say. Could have picked up a solid o-lineman with that third round pick.

I have to say that I will miss Dion Gates.
I realize we’ve wasted draft picks on bad D-linemen and cutting them isn’t an option, but Dion impressed me this preseason and I hope he catches on somewhere and does big things.

So, we've now seen the cuts for our division....
anyone want to take a stab at final outcome….. I say
Chiefs
Raiders
San Diego
Broncos
I know that seems ass backwards, but you heard it here first… lol
Doesnt look too far off, in my view.
Oakland is super dangerous, if those two converted DE’s work out at outside linebacker for them their D will be scary good. Oh…and they’ve got a decent QB for the first time since Kerry Collins was taking snaps in Black and Silver.
San Diego’s defense will take a serious step back this year. And who do they have at wideout now, besides P. Crayton??
Denver…is run by McDaniels. We’re OK there, I believe.

"San Diego’s defense will take a serious step back this year. And who do they have at wideout now, besides P. Crayton??"
Malcom Floyd and Legadu Naanee, 1 and 2. Both like 6’4 or 6’5. Malcom Floyd is starting on my fantasy team, and neither is a slouch.
Know the enemy, man. San Diego is still the best team in the division.
by bamachief5558 on Sep 5, 2010 4:27 AM CDT up reply actions
Floyd is a talent, but Naanee remains unproven.
I hear you though. Especially with their offensive coaching staff, they can take speedy 6’5 wideouts and get them to the Pro Bowl. (Although they never got Kassim Osgood off of special teams)….
I’m curious as to how their O-line and running game will look this year.
I’m being optimistic but I know you’re right: They’re the class of the AFC West. That’s what I get for posting at 12:30am :)

The only thing I don't understand is....
why keep Lawrence AND Copper, but cut Lokey?
I don’t get it. Lawrence and Copper suck. At least Lokey gives you a goal line blocker, even if he just ran through the hole and didn’t actually block anybody. He’s still a wide bodied beast!!!!
One of the two will be gone..
for a waiver wire pickup. Probably the same for Cox or Castille.
by Chief Willie Wildcat on Sep 5, 2010 12:35 AM CDT up reply actions
Lawrence has shown nothing....
But to sit there and say Copper sucks, is ridiculous. He is an EXCELLENT special teamer. He is atleast decent as WR, he blew past Champ Bailey in that season finale vs Denver…
Lokey will probably end up back on the PS…

As terrifying as it is, this year's depth looks like All Maddden compared to last years
16-0 here we come!!!!
NT
I know the Depth Chart has only one NT but Smith can play NT (We showed that in preseason) I also think Edwards or Smith will only be in on run downs and then come in Studebake and Arenas. I also think Sheffeld will get a lot of PT this season for us, if he can play (all signs say yes, because he would have gone on IR knowing Haley and Scott).
Front 7
Will have a lot of different packages I think this season. The only starters along the front 7 is Dorsey and Hali. Everyone else will be subed in and out all game long.
by Bwoods06 on Sep 5, 2010 1:20 AM CDT reply actions 1 recs
You're right
I think we’ll see a lot of Hali-DJ/Vrabs-Studie in nickel sets.
http://www.royalskingdom.blogspot.com
http://www.chiefscommand.com
I'm thinking we could upgrade at WR
Either with Briscoe or White maybe both
What's all this chubb over WR's?
If they address anything IMO it had better be NT. Bring Lokey back to the PS maybe but for the love of God, please bring somebody in as a real backup. Start frigging slingin’ trade-bait if you have to but please do something!
