SCOOP Alert- #Chiefs seriously considering Matt Leinart. Looks like Palko is the casualty. @ArrowheadPride @kentbabb @ProFootballTalk

Palko definitely gone... waiting on confirmation of Leinart interest. #chiefs @ArrowheadPride @ProFootballTalk

Again to reiterate, the only confirmation is that Palko is cut... Leinart interest is informed speculation but far from confirmed #chiefs

OK...
Despite what I’ve said about Matt Leinart, he IS an upgrade over Palko. No one would know the difference, but in reality it would be a better situation.
At least he'll throw a prettier ball
… I guess.
I’ve just always been curious about this guy because he won a Heisman and he was apparently a Top 10 talent in that year’s draft. That’s GOTTA count for something.

why would Leinart wanna be 3rd string?
He obviously aint replacing Cassel…and Croyle is most likely the 2nd string…what we want him for?
When you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail.
Jamaal above all. #25 ftw.
being the 3rd on a team with Brodie as the 2nd, is practically the same as being the 2nd
number 2.

I wouldnt be too upset
I think our head coach knows him pretty well, so if he is willing to give him a shot then so will i.

If he thinks Palko is cut because of Leinart he hasn't watched the preseason.
Palko is cut because he is terrible.
If this is true, I don't think we are done.
I can’t see us Croyle and Leinart. Perhaps they would move Croyle?
I'm not crazy about Leinart
But if they pick him up, I’m willing to give him a chance. Lots of players do better after changing teams and he would be better than Palko.
So Leinart is going to back up his college back up?
Cannot see this happening. It would make him look desperate.
Thats a sad story...
He backs u up in College, but now u backing him up in the NFL? That sounds pathetic

His attitude is. Isn’t that what they’re going for?

I'm sorry
I thought we wanted to win, not just have a bunch of nice guys with good attitudes. My bad.
if Leinart was hands above better than Cassel, sure
but you yourself wrote that Cassel hasn’t looked any better than Leinart, so, why bring on the bad attitude when you can have the same production with a good, tough, attitude?
Um
If he couldn’t win with that set of receivers… what’s he gonna do as a backup here?
by GonzosDirtyTrailer on Sep 4, 2010 5:10 PM CDT reply actions
Good point
and if Cassel coulsn’t beat him out at USC… well, looks like we’re in trouble.
by bamachief5558 on Sep 4, 2010 5:13 PM CDT up reply actions
it had nothing to do with cassel not being able to beat him out
pete carol wanted his QB in the starting role. similar to mcdaniels – cutler situation.
Seriously, when have I ever been sarcastic?
Matty
According to many of the local news radio guys here in Phoenix, the Cards are looking at this like…he has had 4 yrs in this system…Anderson just got here this yr and is already neck and neck with him….so who has the most potential going forward?….Lienart has no fire, looks like he does not give a shit while on the field…goes three and out and simply walks off the field like,"oh well"….no leadership abilities and the other players just dont respond to him……I wouldnt want him around eating up a roster spot.
Total agreement KCinAZ
the Fins cut Pat White down in Miami, and I like him as much as I do Cassel and a LOT more than I like Leinart. And he knows the offense having been there a couple of years or more with Parcells.
I may find a corner. weep.
Team Pioli/Haley. Decade of the Chiefs.

That would cause a massive controversy on this site...altho Cassel is clearly better...

Leinart is crap in ARI
what makes anyone think he will be better here…

Perhaps.
But Brodie is clearly better than Cassel..

But Cassel is garbage, man.
by bamachief5558 on Sep 4, 2010 5:24 PM CDT up reply actions
Agreed
Though I feel that Cassel is a bit BELOW average, Croyle is honestly too play behind a fragile line in the NFL.
That’s why I brought up Troy Smith.
by bamachief5558 on Sep 4, 2010 5:26 PM CDT up reply actions
Croyle is obviously too fragile to play behind a shoddy line in the NFL*

ps.thanks for not meaning to wink at me.

I question Cassel as our franchise QB
But his numbers are better than Croyle’s. He’s one of the best backup QBs in the NFL, but he’s not better than Cassel.
by LTownChiefsFan on Sep 4, 2010 5:27 PM CDT up reply actions
Croyle only got a chance
to prove that he’s injury prone. He has better pocket presence, accuracy, arm strength, decision making, etc. than Cassel. The teams he got his 7 or so starts on were historically bad.
by bamachief5558 on Sep 4, 2010 5:29 PM CDT up reply actions
that's debatable
which we seem to do quite often around here
Seriously, when have I ever been sarcastic?
What has Cassel done in K.C. to make him look better?
Maybe you’re watching different games than I am.
I’m no fan of Leinart, but Cassel has been pretty terrible both last year and this.
by ChiefDJ on Sep 4, 2010 5:33 PM CDT up reply actions 1 recs
I'm not trying to be an apologist for Cassel
But did you see how bad the team was as far as running and blocking the first half of last year? Not to mention they were always behind so teams knew they were throwing. The guy was average last year, on a very below average team….and that defense also is plausible for Croyle too…
Matt Verderame
He was not average last year.
He was 25th in the league as far as QB rating goes.
That is well below average. In the bottom 10 in the league.
Yeah the offensive line was not great last year, but he took a Pro Bowl offensive line in New England and was one of the most sacked QBs in the league. Some of that is on him.
how does 11-5 strike you
he’s had one good season and one bad. hardly enough to warrant an opinion either way, yet people refuse to think that he’ll amount to anything.
Seriously, when have I ever been sarcastic?
I welcome lienhart

Haley coached him
so this indicates Haley has a good opinion of him
That said, Haley also seems to think D. Williams > D. Johnson and T. Jones > J. Charles, which are hilarious propositions
or Belcher or Mays, and is just as big as Belcher or Mays, has low body fat,
which is the basis of Haley’s criteria for starting at Strong ILB, led the team in tackles after starting 16 games last year, and did so without injury.
He should be starting at ILB opposite DJ on the weakside.
Plus, it doesn’t hurt that he can get to the QB.
"Don't let it end like this. Tell them I said something."
~ last words of Francisco ("Pancho") Villa ~
just to clarify...DJ on the weak and DW on the strong, with Mays backing DJ on the
weak, and Belcher backing DW on the strongside. THAT’s what needs to happen in the position group. IMO.

i'm not sure about that
but i’m fairly certain that charles will get the majority of the carries.

We could save roster spots for depth if we simply cut all three QBs.
We line MucCluster up at QB instead, wearing Doug Flutie’s old number and potentially flanked by Jones and Charles.

Lions have said they won't release theirs until 8 P.M.
Yeah, let's just keep matriculatin' the ball down the field, boys! ...
I have no problem with bringing in Leinart.
Haley knows what he is as well as anybody in the league not on the Cardinals. Leinart lost his job to a hall of famer, and clashed with the head coach. Not the first time a change of scenery would be good for a guy.
He wasn’t a high draft pick for nothing.
Translation
Nick Wright is so simple minded that he puts 2 and 2 together and got 5: Haley coached in Arizona, Arizona just released a QB that he coached, thus Haley/Chiefs are interested in that QB. That is about as “informed” as Nick Wright gets for his “speculations”.

I'm all for having to earn your starting position, and Leinart is clearly better than Palko and has more durability than Croyle.
But the politics of it would make my head spin. Cassel backed him up at USC. Leinart was a top 10 pick, Cassel was a 7th rounder. Now Leinart and Cassel end up back on the same team? Even if the coaches make if perfectly clear that Cassel is the starter and Leinart is the backup, a very vocal segment of the media and the fanbase would be calling for Cassel’s head and for Leinart to start the second Cassel had an even slightly below average game. I’m not sure Leinart’s upside is worth that kind of controversy. Then again, it might be, what do I know?
i agree
picking up leinart could make cassel feel like the coaches lost faith in him. with all the critics, i can easily see cassel feeling like he’s going to lose the starting gig to leinart all over again. that type of metal trauma is not something cassel needs. it would being doing more harm than good. i just don’t see this happening.
Seriously, when have I ever been sarcastic?
Honestly
If he can’t handle a little pressure, he’s not going to make it anyway.
by bh13 on Sep 4, 2010 6:29 PM CDT up reply actions 1 recs
that's not a little pressure
bringing in a new QB is a little pressure. bringing in the guy the coaches picked over you just because he was the coaches guy is a ton of baggage. sure cassel might not crack, but in my opinion, i think the mental aspects this could have on cassel are too excessive for the benefits of replacing palko.
Seriously, when have I ever been sarcastic?
I say bring Leinart in for a shot
HOF Dawson didn’t work out in Pittsburg (I think it was Pittsburg) and was our all time best qb. Leinart has talent. He doesn’t cost a draft pick. I would do it in a heart beat.

I don't hold anything against him
Yes it could have been handled better, but in the end it’s just business. Best of luck in NE Jarrad.
I'd say it worked out pretty well for both sides
Depending on the conditions of the pick anyway.
Do they realize...
..that they don’t play the Raiders every year? Might have changed their minds if they did.
That will annoy me….Cry baby gets a chance to get a ring…so undeserved
On a posative….leaves room for a guy who WANTS TO play for the Chiefs :)

Anyone Notice?
How many first round QB busts there have been in the last three years? It’s crazy. I think the problem is that the QBs are being thrown in the fire and aren’t ready for the NFL.
Well Haley was the one who benched Matt for Warner
Haley knows him better than anyone, so if he wants Leinart, must be the right move.
I will have to see it to believe it though since Haley was the one who benched him a few years ago.
He’s always open. He catches a lot of balls. He’s un-guardable, no matter how old he is
I would take Troy Smith before any of these other guys.
He had the Ravens job won a couple years ago but got sick which is the only reason Flacco even got a chance.
Terelle Pryor is the future!!
