NFL Team Cuts: Three Hours Until The Cut Deadline For The Chiefs
We're now down to three hours and counting until the Kansas City Chiefs and every other NFL team need to cut their NFL rosters down to 53 players. The NFL roster cut deadline time is 6 PM eastern. Last year, the Chiefs announced their cuts pretty late in the day, so if you have something to get done before 6 PM, do it now.
This is another open thread for you to speculate on cuts, trades, waiver claims or anything else related to today's roster cut day.

yeah, don't know about White
It means Parcells thinks he’s worse than Thigpen. I don’t want Thiggy back either.
New signature needed. (If you have wit and panache, please apply.)
I never thought Thigpen was really a starting-caliber QB
but I’d prefer him over Cassel.

I hope we take a look at this Levi, he is a dual threat QB. Great runner and good passer.

No a cut but Raiders have Veldheer starting at center.
Should make things even easier for us. A rookie playing a position he’s never player? Strange that you put a 6’8 guy in at center when you play in a division with three 3-4 teams.

~ last words of Francisco ("Pancho") Villa ~
I don't think so. It's only 4:30 here and they don't have to release the names till 6 or so.
Yeah, let's just keep matriculatin' the ball down the field, boys! ...
Yea but they can't cut them all at 4:30, they have to meet with each
guy for half an hour or so individually, one at a time, they’ve been cutting guys all day.

The similarities are amazing. I only have one suit and can't figure out time zones.
It’s official. I’m a genius.

~ last words of Francisco ("Pancho") Villa ~
Why wouldn't each club have until 6pm in their own time zone. Doesn't make a lot of sense.
The teams in the Central get penalized an hour, and in the West, 2 hours. Not a big deal, but the teams should have equal amounts of time to make their cuts.
"Don't let it end like this. Tell them I said something."
~ last words of Francisco ("Pancho") Villa ~

Well Einstein, it has to do with time as you should be very well aware of.
They do in actuality have the same time in which to do this.
But as you once said “It’s all relative” : )
Yeah, let's just keep matriculatin' the ball down the field, boys! ...
Ok ok...so I neglected to speak in terms so all of you NON-Einsteins could comprehend
the meaning. The same amount of time based on the the time of day within each zone, and factoring in the amount of time each team sleeps in that time zone and…..oh the hell with it.

Tank is a guy we never should have let go.
You just can’t fall asleep in meetings on Todd Haley and remain on this team, no matter how good of a fit you are. In my opinion, the Chiefs need to be just a tad more tolerant. I mean if a guy’s mistakes are really harmless, we need to look past them, if we’re ever going to field a completely dominant team.
"Don't let it end like this. Tell them I said something."
~ last words of Francisco ("Pancho") Villa ~
well
now, we’re not the only team that has cut him. It’s likely there’s more to it than Chiefs being “intolerant” or “vindictive”.
New signature needed. (If you have wit and panache, please apply.)
I don't think saying that in some cases the Chiefs could be a "tad more tolerant",
in the case of harmless mistakes, like being unable to keep your eyes open, because your so exhausted, translates to “intolerant” or “vindictave”….and I never used either of those words, just a form of one in a positive vs. a negative.
How you got that I was saying the Chiefs were being vindictive in their cutting of TT, is frankly beyond my ability to comprehend, even for an Einstein like myself.

Out of the bunch so far...I would nab TJ Houshmanblabla...and release Copper
if he’s affordable that is…..TJ has been one of the highest paid WR’s in the NFL and probably wouldn’t play for the kind of money the Chiefs would be willing to offer….
and…I don’t see how we could go wrong by getting younger at safety and going after Rolle and cutting McGraw.
Very intelligent guy, young with tremendous upside. This one could and should happen…that is if the Chiefs really will do whatever it takes to get better at every position like they say they will……..well here’s your chance Scott.
Both those guys are upgrades. One at WR and the other at Safety.
"Don't let it end like this. Tell them I said something."
~ last words of Francisco ("Pancho") Villa ~
problem with that is really the roles...copper isnt asked to catch passes, hes a ST guy...Housh is the complete opposite
Team Pioli/Haley. Decade of the Chiefs.
Team Colquitt
Only problems I see with TJ are...
Would he really want to come here and share #3 WR targets and if we took him that would give us 4 of 6 WR that don’t really contribute anything to special teams which is never a good thing either.
"Success is never ending, failure is never final."
Coming here is better than not playing at all isn't it? The man has been cut. No job.
and the reason, that our third WR’s don’t catch the ball much, is because they suck, not because they don’t want to have a legit weapon at that third WR position. If TJ was on board, they’d use the third WR more, and he might even relegate Chambers to that position. That’s what upgrades are all about. The argument that we shouldn’t have better talent at that position, is just plain ridiculous.
"Don't let it end like this. Tell them I said something."
~ last words of Francisco ("Pancho") Villa ~
You are forgetting we have McCluster.
Bowe is a lock and TJ can’t do what Chambers does so he would be sharing balls with McCluster, virtually being our new Urban. I’m sure he can get a better gig then that.
"Success is never ending, failure is never final."
C'mon, do you really think I forgot about McCluster?
TJ could come in here, and wind up knocking Chambers down the depth chart. It’s never bad to upgrade any WR position. TJ would turn Coppers spot into a legitimate deep threat. He’s always been a number one, and don’t think for a second that if the Chiefs could fill a third or fourth guy with a number one, they wouldn’t do it in a hearbeat if they could find a way to make it affordable. They could care less about what he can do on ST’s if they could get a guy who can score TD’s down the field as a deep threat.
The fact that I saw Chambers try to catch two perfectly thrown balls in critical situations with his knuckles, didn’t lead me to believe much different.
Upgrade, upgrade and upgrade. Ad infinitum.
"Don't let it end like this. Tell them I said something."
~ last words of Francisco ("Pancho") Villa ~
Seattle has to pay TJ 7 million this year
If he signs a 1 year 1 million dollar contract, then Seattle pays him the other 6 million. If we could pull something like that I would be down….but I wouldn’t think he would want to play here…and Pioli probably wants nothing to do with him.

Ugh... No!
Housh is overpriced and isn’t really a good fit in our current WR lineup.
I like Rolle, but not to replace McGraw.
I've been rapping for about seveteen years okay? I don't write my stuff anymore I just kick it from my head you know what I'm sayin? I can do that. No disrespect but that's how I am.
Did you read the post? I said if he's affordable, and also, that he probably would not want
to paly for what the Chiefs could offer. But thanks for re-posting my post. And Rolle is a huge upgrade, for now and years to come over McGraw, who will be gone after this season anyway. Best to part ways now and grab someone who could become one of the leagues premiere safeties. And yes, Rolle could easily become elite. And fast. He’s too smart not to.
"Don't let it end like this. Tell them I said something."
~ last words of Francisco ("Pancho") Villa ~
It's simple really
1.) Housh is not affordable, wont play ST, and kicks either Chambers or McCluster out of the way.
2.) I want Rolle, but not to replace McGraw. He is certainly an upgrade over Langford, Morgan, Price etc. However, you are definitely over-exaggerating his abilities:
Sports Illustrated’s Peter King wrote on Twitter: “Titans hated cutting Myron Rolle. But they didn’t think he was athletic or instinctive enough to play in the secondary.”
I've been rapping for about seveteen years okay? I don't write my stuff anymore I just kick it from my head you know what I'm sayin? I can do that. No disrespect but that's how I am.
Housh will be affordable because nobody will pay for him right now.
What exactly makes Rolle and upgrade over the other guys? I like his story but how is he better?
We have a shot...at what...we don't know yet.
1)I doubt Housh will drop his price low enough to make him interesting, but even if he does, there are still at least three other draw backs (see above)
2) Rolle =upgrade
a) Scouting reports for the four mentioned puts Rolle in a higher position by raw talents and abilities.
b) Rolle was at the same level on the depth chart for the above mentioned guys but outperformed them on the field in the preseason.
I've been rapping for about seveteen years okay? I don't write my stuff anymore I just kick it from my head you know what I'm sayin? I can do that. No disrespect but that's how I am.
We aren't going to sign Housh.
If we did it wouldn’t be for special teams anyway. I was just saying that he wouldn’t be to expensive. Rolle may be a good player someday, but 31 teams passed on him and let him clear waivers. Hopefully Pioli knows what he is doing not going for him.
We have a shot...at what...we don't know yet.
Well, Peter is wrong. And that's that.
I have about 30 arguments like this a year about guys, and after a year, when events occur that prove me right, I can’t remember you’re name, and you’re long gone, leaving me to gloat all by myself. I’m tired of arguing that which will remain unknown to everyone but myself for the next two years. Go read Rolle’s entire scouting report and read about the individual, the person, and his character. Rolle is a little bit green right now, but is too smart to keep down, and has a chance with work to become an elite safety. Being cut after his first camp means jack.
And upgrading Copper with Housh, doesn’t kick anyone out or down, or anywhere else.
Obviously your someone so intent on supporting your argument, that you would take the unconscionable view, that upgrading the talent on your team, is somehow bad for the team.
If every team adapted that philosophy, they couldn’t sell tickets. And not only that, they’d have to change the name of the Super Bowl, to the Shitty Bowl.
It’s your world, not mine. Fortunately for you, you get to live in mine.

"Don't let it end like this. Tell them I said something."
~ last words of Francisco ("Pancho") Villa ~
That's right.
What you are accepting as a premise
that upgrading the talent on your team
I reject as one. As prescribed in your scenario, no actual upgrade is made. Furthermore, upgrading personnel at the top of your roster is not the only consideration when it comes to making good roster decisions, these must also be tempered with salary considerations, team chemistry, player development, etc. All things considered, Housh is a bad move.
However, I think Rolle is a good move for the lower roster spots and if he can edge out Mcgraw eventually, great. But just use logic here:
Berry,McGraw,Lewis,Rolle > Berry,Rolle,Lewis,Morgan
As far as being a man is concerned, I am of the opinion that the ability to formulate an argument and defend it is a sign of maturity and character. If you don’t have this ability, just walk away from the argument instead of resorting to ad hominem’s or diversions.

Bad attitude, only plays WR (and we have two WR’s like that already), getting up there in yrs…if he is willing to take a reduced salary, shut up and play as our #3 then, sure. But I totally doubt that’ll happen.
Rolle is interesting. I wanted him on this team on draft day…Maybe him instead of Langford? Or Price?

Broncos ditch draft bust Alphonso Smith
NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi reports the Lions have acquired CB Alphonso Smith from the Broncos in exchange for TE Dan Gronkowski.
Coach Josh McDaniels deserves another year or two to implement his program in Denver, but the early returns on his draft results aren’t pretty. The Broncos traded a first-round pick to grab Smith in the second round last year, and they’ve now ditched him for a tight end who couldn’t make the Lions roster last season. It’s a smart move by Detroit, adding an early-round talent to a thin secondary while gambling that they can develop Smith where Denver failed. Sep. 4 – 3:47 pm et

So basically this offseason...
The Donkeys traded Scheffler and their first round pick from this years draft to the Detroit Lions for a TE that isn’t even as good as Scheffler?
"Success is never ending, failure is never final."
Gronkowski<<<Scheffler
Gronkowski couldn’t even make the Lion’s roster last season.
I've been rapping for about seveteen years okay? I don't write my stuff anymore I just kick it from my head you know what I'm sayin? I can do that. No disrespect but that's how I am.
I love when you put it that way
but the broncos got something in return for Scheffler right?
11101010011011101011. Yeah that just happened
A draft pick that they needed to throw in to get Tebow if I'm remembering right.
"Success is never ending, failure is never final."
Wow nevermind
They got a 7th rounder for him. So Scheffler an their first rounder for a scrub worse TE and a 7th round pick.
"Success is never ending, failure is never final."
wow that's terrible compensation
McDaniels showing his Herm
11101010011011101011. Yeah that just happened
I dont know what to believe
But if thats what they used on Cox then the compensation was greater than the sacrifice for them. Perrish Cox looks like the real deal
11101010011011101011. Yeah that just happened
http://arrowheadaddict.com/2010/04/19/broncos-trade-scheffler-get-draft-pick/
The Lions trade LB Ernie Simms to the Eagles.
The Eagles give Denver their 5th round pick (137) this year.
Denver gives their 7th round pick this year and TE Tony Scheffler to the Lions.
nice
so it works out for Denver then.. Good corners are hard to find and Cox is both young and goodrrrrrrr
11101010011011101011. Yeah that just happened
somethin like that...
Josh McD’s logic is baffling sometimes…
I bet he just traded for Dan Gronkowski because he has the same last name as that new tight end the Patriots got this year.
Just like he drafted Tom Brandstater in the late rounds last year (right?), likely because his name sounds like Tom Brady. Notice that Brandstater was cut this year.
Is there really a method to Josh McD’s madness? Is he some forward-thinking genius whose master plan our brains are too simple to keep up with?
Or did we really get lucky enough for Denver to get saddled with a douchebag who came in and dismantled the foundation of their team quicker than Herm Edwards himself could have done?

Hidge kind of reminds me of maybe a slightly better Corey Mays.
"Success is never ending, failure is never final."
When he was healthy, he was a superior Corey Mays.
He’s a lot less stiff in the hips, that’s for sure. Trouble is his knees aren’t real good anymore, which has hurt a lot of things (quickness, explosion, backpedal in coverage)…

Here's a couple decent possibilities from the Parcells tree...
MIA cuts guard Donald Thomas, and linebacker Erik Walden.
I remember Walden from ’08—killer special teamer, and he was a DE in college (maybe an OLB possibility?). Thomas could be another guard prospect for us.

worth looking at....
Patriots waived WR Darnell Jenkins.
Jenkins had a big preseason that included a 66-yard touchdown against the Giants. It wasn’t enough for the 5’10/188-pounder.

Players we should consider
I’m thinking we hold off on our cut announcements until last minute so we can look at the waier wire in positions where our players are still on the “bubble” and if we have the ability to sign someone else in their spot we will then release them…determine our 53 man. So it’s some what of an advantage watching what happens throughout the rest of the league, granted the waiver rules apply.
Derrick Burgess LB
Tye Hill CB
Nathan Vasher CB
Troy Smith QB
Josh Beekman OG
I like Beekman and Smith...
Burgess is a 4-3 end, though. I think that’s why he didn’t fit in so well in NE.
Donald Thomas from MIA and Beekman from CHI might be nice additions—Beekman can play some C also…
Smith would be pretty sweet.

the Bears are trying to trade LB Tim Shaw before they release him. Shaw set a franchise record with 30 special-teams tackles last year, so the Bears are shopping him to teams in need of a coverage ace.

Steelers released Justin Hartwig.
I know he’s a center, but he could beat out rudy or even casey. Just a thought. He would really help our O-line I think. I also like TJ housh, but doubt we will get him. Rolle is another good one, but also not a big chance. Now Leinhart, Haley may have connections with him so we never now.
I like Hartwig but...
It seems like a pretty big risk to bring a new O lineman a week before the season starts. The O-line seems to be congellen pretty well with Casey at center.
We almost had Hartwig in 2007.
Somehow Carl and Herm let him leave town w/out a contract…
Jason Spitz (GB) is on the trading block also. There’s a possibility for C or G….

TJ Housh is a Viking
So seriously, Javon Walker is gone and he is better than Urban (if we keep him). anyone for Walker?
Could Coach Anderson and Haley get him to cure his scissorhands?
He’s way more gifted than Urban is, AND had a pretty solid preseason. If his mind is right I like him better for our needs than Housh. Hey—I bet he’d even play special teams at this point.

The Chiefs had scouts at all the games, I'm sure they are going down the list as cuts happen. Going to be interesting.
Yeah, let's just keep matriculatin' the ball down the field, boys! ...
no joke. but there are lots of guys getting cut. at this point, I think they had to have a guess list
or at least a want list of guys on rosters.
there are somewhere around 700 guys getting cut this week/weekend (if my calculation is correct). So something tells me they don’t just sit around and evaluate as cuts happen, but have already scouted every team and made their lists of wants if they’re cut.
I doubt we’ll see the Chiefs add any of the bigger name guys. Still, reading through cut reports, there are some interesting guys I hadn’t heard much of. Glad the Chiefs scouting department has though.

Troy Smith cut by the Ravens
He would be a good pickup as either a #2 or 3 QB
Troy Smith seems like a Haley QB...
Good build but a little short, strong arm, good athlete who can run some. In contrast, Jonathan Crompton (cut by SD) seems like a Pioli QB…tall, can escape the pocket, avg-to-above avg arm strength.
Either is WAY better than Palko. At this point, Tyler’s advantage is he knows the playbook. That’s about it.

The Big 10 ain't what it used to be....
I love me some Big 10 but the great teams (OH State, Penn State) and the good teams (Iowa, Wisconsin) are overshadowed by the fact that most of the league is in a down cycle. Michigan, M-State, Illinois, Purdue….all of them USED to be good.
Pinkel’s built a nice program in Missouri, and it would’ve been nice to add them to the Big 10 because it would’ve forced the league to keep adding good coaching and step up recruiting efforts. NE will have that effect too I think.

1) Are you talking Big 12 N or S?
2) The old TX schools ain’t what they used to be. There’s only two teams in TX we’d have a fight with—the Horns and the Horned Frogs (who aren’t even in the Big 12!!).
3) The Big 12 N is like the Big 10, with more passing offenses: Too many teams who should be better but aren’t. For example, MU is a good program…but it’s only LATELY gotten there.

really? have you forgotten the last time Iowa played a big 12 team?
Sunday, December 31, 2006
The Iowa Hawkeyes (6-6) came into the Alamo Bowl as underdogs to the Texas Longhorns (10-3), 18th-ranked and defending national champions. It probably came as a surprise to the entire Alamo Bowl record crowd of 65,875 as Iowa ran out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Iowa almost extended their lead to 21-3 just before the half, but for a touchdown pass called back for an illegal receiver who lined up on the Iowa line of scrimmage.
Texas quarterback Colt McCoy, who began the season as a red-shirt freshman, capped the Texas comeback in the 3rd quarter with a 72-yard pass to tailback Jamaal Charles to take the lead at 20-14.
Tate connected again with Brodell to put Iowa back in the lead, 21-20. Brodell led the Hawks in offence with 6 receptions for 159 yards.
In the fourth quarter, Selvin Young capped a Texas drive by rushing 2 yards to make it 26-21, as the Longhorns failed to make the 2-point conversion. Iowa then marched downfield and Kyle Schlicher kicked a 38-yard field goal to pull Iowa within two points at 26-24 with 11 minutes left in the game.
With just a field goal needed and nearly five minutes to go, Iowa was given a gift when a short 19-yard punt put Iowa in possession near midfield. Iowa coach Kirk Fernetz then tried a bit of trickery which doomed Iowa’s hopes. Texas safety Marcus Griffin tackled Dominique Douglas for a 9-yard loss on a reverse wide-receiver pass on first down. Iowa could not convert and had to punt three plays later, and Texas successfully ran out the clock to win the game.
Iowa was only 6-6 that year and almost knocked off a defending champion texas team….
iowa now is better than that iowa team.
texas doesn’t have Colt McCoy anymore.

TCU on the same level as Texas-no I don’t. But they’re sneaky and well-coached, and a threat to win anytime. Sorry I didn’t make that line clearer.

I know it was popular, but I was never a big fan of that program.

Ask Glen Coffee.
Just because you enter the draft does not mean your heart is in it. If he doesn’t “love” football, I don’t want him.
or maybe he's just not playing for the right team yet....
He’d be cheap, he can play, and he’s the right character for pioli.
It’s just like a 2nd NFL Draft….ahhhhh.
Is he any good actually catching passes? I know he was known in BUF and NE for his special teams skills.

from Rotoworld:
Aiken lost his gunner job on special teams early in camp. Despite a few flashes of promise at receiver early last season, he killed the Pats with his inability to get open in December and January.

anyone know about this guy?
Giants waived OT Herb Taylor.
The Giants surprisingly brought in Shawn Andrews off the street, which possibly took Taylor’s roster spot.

In a surprising move just eight days before the season opener, Seahawks offensive line coach Alex Gibbs has resigned. per profootballtalk.com

OC's "quitting" or being fired a week before season starts
although, now I see that guy is a OL coach – not OC
