NFL Roster Cuts: Moves That Could Interest The Kansas City Chiefs

Here are few roster cuts around the NFL that could interest the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs will be looking at every player released but these are the big names. Any others you think might interest the Chiefs?

i think so

he wouldn’t be a bad pickup. i haven’t seen a whole lot of other players i’d like to see be chiefs that have been cut.

Stokely?

If we need a producing slot receiver who is a great locker room influence and knows a heckuva lot about an opposing team, there’s a pretty good one (albeit with an injury he’s recovering from) who is looking for a job.

would be a nice receiver in a todd haley offense as far as matt and his low yards per completion totals – housh is a receptions machine when he can seperate

Bomar

He was #1 qb ranked by rivals coming out of high school. Same as Leinart I think

With a wicked case of dip-shit-itus

If he hadn’t been a complete moron and got kicked off the OU team he probably would have been a top draft prospect.

But he still might be better than Palko.

Myron Rolle and Jarvis Green

stick out to me. I was really intrigued by Myron Rolle during the draft, this guy is smart as hell and good athlete.

And also… I can’t help but wonder what Pat White could do in a Chiefs version of the spread with McCluster and Charles out there..

by bamachief5558 on Sep 4, 2010 1:29 PM CDT reply actions

I couldn't agree more

Myron is someone that is a character guy and the preseason game I saw him play he was solid. I would take a long look at him overDejuan Morgan and Langford

by dayner14 on Sep 4, 2010 1:37 PM CDT up reply actions

YES!!!

Let’s get Myron Rolle. A defensive back tandem of…

Brandon Flowers, Brandon Carr, Javier Arenas, Maurice Leggett, Travis Daniels at CB, Eric Berry, Kendrick Lewis, Jon McGraw, and Myrone Rolle at S.

A young, talented, and good character group. I love it. Now if Tamba Hali can just get some help in the pass rush department, and as long as Demorrio Williams stays in preseason form, we should be one of the better teams against the pass in 2010.

R.I.P. Derrick Thomas. The Chiefs and the World have never been the same since your untimely death.

by ChiefsFan90s on Sep 4, 2010 3:55 PM CDT up reply actions

Rolle

agree that he was/is intriguing but I wonder if it’s mostly because of his backstory rather than real talent. I mean would he truly be able to displace the other young backup safeties we already have? I’m asking as I don’t know.

Charlie Weis' Leg

by kabrink on Sep 4, 2010 1:38 PM CDT up reply actions

yes its a great back story but

He was a shut down corner at FSU and his physical ability ie combine was legit… 4.5 40 and 24 bench. So he may be a little raw but he has major upside and intangibles, and I know Pioli loves intangibles

by dayner14 on Sep 4, 2010 1:54 PM CDT up reply actions

Depth…we need depth.

by ChiefsFan90s on Sep 4, 2010 3:57 PM CDT up reply actions

I like the DB upgrades, so far, but that doesn't mean I'm not always on the lookout for more talent/savvy.

Chiefs have numerous journeymen in the DB ranks they could part with, without upsetting the applecart, imo. Might be getting close to the “turnover limit” with all the new faces already working in, and they do seem to be on the verge of a total team concept with the guys they have and have been working with.

But if Rolle plays as smart as he is book-smart, we might see someone more athletic being sacrificed to the IQ gods, and Rolle’s measurables are legit. I just wonder why he was cut already.

Well

he was drafted in the 5th round, and apparently the reason he slipped is because teams feared that he had too many aspirations that would take him away from football. The guy is a Rhode’s scholar, after all.

Young and developing low draft choices = cheap. Leinart is unhappy, wants to be a starter today and expensive.

Like he thinks he’s too good to have to work as hard as coaches want him to work. I’m on the coaches’ side, based on what I see from the highlights.

The don't need an old QB

The will sign a young developmental QB for the third spot.

by saskwatch on Sep 4, 2010 2:56 PM CDT up reply actions

I know they will...

but to me, our two top guys are basically developmental. Neither Croyle nor Cassel have hit their ceiling yet. I’m not sure Croyle ever will—his build and injury history will keep him off the field—and Cassel, well, we’ll see for ourselves.

I’d like us to grab a young vet: A couple yrs older than Brodie and Matt, who’s been in different systems and shown enough skill to win, that they can bounce ideas off of. But I’m no GM, and probably shouldn’t be ;) lol

by saskwatch: Yes. Young, developmental QB for 3rd spot. And not be afraid to part with HIM at the drop of a hat.

That’s pretty much what they seem to be doing. Until KC makes another move as aggressive as the one that landed Cassel, I can see a revolving door at young, low-budget #3, until someone really shows he has growth potential (tangible) and knows how to help himself grow (intangible). Hopefully that’ll turn up a good one.

As long as Cassel’s healthy, they have the luxury of being patient with a player they really like, while at the same time not being afraid to part ways with a guy, who doesn’t go the extra mile for ’em.

I guess if you look at last year, TJ had no one to take the pressure off him (and he’s not really a #1), and he still had a decent year.

Like I said, I’d be mainly interested in them as a trio. I think Housh’s talents are more toward slot WR anyways. Of course, where does that leave Dex…

I think that’s what KC’s prepared to do. Maybe not in as big a hurry as last season, but still…

Certainly budget isn’t a limiting factor, here. But I agree with others who see the obvious: He’s going to make catches we’ve all seen Copper, Urban, and Lawrence drop. If the price is right – and I think it is – this seems like a fairly low-risk move that could reap real dividends.

Heh. Maybe I misunderstood Lombardi or Lombardi was just plain wrong, but...

my understanding is that Seattle’s eating a pretty big chunk of salary and Houszh might not cost as much as one might think. It’s more about Houszh actually deciding he wants to play for somebody, and having some say as to the situation he’s in. If he took a liking to KC, and he MIGHT like the way they do things, now, maybe we hear the word “elite” attached to KC’s passing game, along with its now-respected running game.

To me, Houszh has seemed like a no-nonsense pro who’s been in a couple Pop Warner team situations that LEAD to his mouthing-off… Also, he seems like a natural fit for the slot receiver spot, putting 3 big, tough, and scrappy WRs on the field,

The Last Thing Cassel Needs

Is the same guy that had his starting spot in college on this roster. I say no to Leinart. As much as I’ve bashed Cassel he has at least had one solid year in the NFL. Leinart on the other hand is more remembered for beer bonging with college chicks in Arizona.

Besides...

Outside of Carson Palmer, can you think of a Southern Cal QB who started at Southern Cal that’s done anything in the NFL? No?…

Sanchez: Rexy isn’t a believer
Leinart: Whiz wasn’t a believer
Booty: Hasn’t developed, on his 2nd or 3rd team…

SC just isn’t the place for successful NFL QB’s. What does it say that the best SC quarterbacks have been a guy who went through three coaches in 4 yrs in college (Palmer) and a guy who never started (Cassel)??

Myron Rolle Over McGraw?

Anyone have a solid scouting report on this Rolle kid?

by Ryan in Nixa on Sep 4, 2010 2:47 PM CDT reply actions

Of those listed, Rolle is the most intriguing to me

report

Rolle has a lot of positives about his game. He is as smart on the field as he is in the classroom, which is pretty smart. He has great instincts and always seems to be around the ball, but his best assets are a little easier to notice. Rolle, at 6-2 and 218 pounds has great size and strength. He defends the pass extremely well and has the quickness to cover the field sideline to sideline.

What Does Housh Add To This Team?

I mean Pollard had more talent and a bad attitude and they cut him. What kind of message is he sending this young core of players if after throwing a whiney fit in Seattle we sign Housh? The guy is a possession receiver with no deep speed. Bowe is better and Chambers has more deep speed. I just don’t see where Housh fits in on this team.

Prototypical size and strength. Top intangibles; smart, hard worker, coach favorite. Looks very smooth in man coverage; has the athleticism and fluidity of a cornerback. Could play either safety position.

I Say We Sign

A nose tackle, 3rd QB, and maybe Rolle. I doubt we pick up a WR. It takes a while for WR to gel with their QB and the last thing Cassel needs besides Leinart looking over his shoulder is to try and mesh with a new face at WR like he had to deal with all of last year. So my guess is we don’t sign any WR.

by Ryan in Nixa on Sep 4, 2010 3:01 PM CDT up reply actions

I mostly agree

I would disagree on the QB aspect now though. With Croyle’s propensity for injury, I would rather have Palko for his knowledge of the playbook, should Cassel go down.

NT agreed, WR agreed, Rolle agreed. I think I would target quality OL instead of QB

He was a bit undersized coming out of college… If has added some weight without losing speed, then maybe. But I would wait for the time being and see what else rolls down the pike.

Interestingly we don't have to target just one

I'd prefer White over Lienart

Imagine a Wildcat set with White lined up at QB, Charles at RB, and McCluster in the slot. HOw the heck are you going to game plan against that.. Throw in Bowe split out wide and you’ve got problems..

What I like about White is that although he will be the third string QB, he can still contribute more to the team than sitting on the bench all year.. Which is likely what Palko will be doing.

11101010011011101011. Yeah that just happened

by 808NaNz808 on Sep 4, 2010 3:06 PM CDT reply actions

If we did go with a QB, I would definitely take White over Leinart.

However, I don’t think this is the time to target a QB, what with the season just around the corner

Most Teams Don't Carry 3 QBs on Game Day

Which is why this idea is good in theory but for it to work White would have to play Special Teams or be the back-up making Croyle hte emergency QB. Neither is a good scenario and likely why he was cut in the first place. Also, if Pat White couldnt beat out the stiffs at QB in Miami he sure as hell isn’t going to beat out Cassel.

by Ryan in Nixa on Sep 4, 2010 3:08 PM CDT up reply actions

Very good point.

totally disregarded the fact that QB 3 is always inactive. Still, White is probably more talented than Palko is. Another thing to consider though.. IF instead of deactivating QB3 we deactivate our last receiver, we could also give White some WR reps.
