NFL Roster Cuts: Moves That Could Interest The Kansas City Chiefs
Here are few roster cuts around the NFL that could interest the Kansas City Chiefs.
- Seahawks released WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh.
- QB Matt Leinart has been told he'll be released.
- Bills released QB Levi Brown. Chiefs offensive coordinator Charlie Weis scouted him.
- S Myron Rolle was released by the Titans.
- Dolphins QB Pat White was released.
- Bucs WR Michael Clayton was released.
- Redskins released RB Willie Parker.
- Broncos cut Jarvis Green after signing him to a four-year deal this offseason. He played for the Pats, too.
The Chiefs will be looking at every player released but these are the big names. Any others you think might interest the Chiefs?

he wouldn’t be a bad pickup. i haven’t seen a whole lot of other players i’d like to see be chiefs that have been cut.

i would love housh
would be a nice receiver in a todd haley offense as far as matt and his low yards per completion totals – housh is a receptions machine when he can seperate
Get it together Joel!
So you got the fax. So why didn't you add it to the resume? What do you mean? Of course martial arts training is relevant.

If he hadn’t been a complete moron and got kicked off the OU team he probably would have been a top draft prospect.
But he still might be better than Palko.

Myron Rolle and Jarvis Green
stick out to me. I was really intrigued by Myron Rolle during the draft, this guy is smart as hell and good athlete.
And also… I can’t help but wonder what Pat White could do in a Chiefs version of the spread with McCluster and Charles out there..
I couldn't agree more
Myron is someone that is a character guy and the preseason game I saw him play he was solid. I would take a long look at him overDejuan Morgan and Langford
YES!!!
Let’s get Myron Rolle. A defensive back tandem of…
Brandon Flowers, Brandon Carr, Javier Arenas, Maurice Leggett, Travis Daniels at CB, Eric Berry, Kendrick Lewis, Jon McGraw, and Myrone Rolle at S.
A young, talented, and good character group. I love it. Now if Tamba Hali can just get some help in the pass rush department, and as long as Demorrio Williams stays in preseason form, we should be one of the better teams against the pass in 2010.
R.I.P. Derrick Thomas. The Chiefs and the World have never been the same since your untimely death.
Rolle
agree that he was/is intriguing but I wonder if it’s mostly because of his backstory rather than real talent. I mean would he truly be able to displace the other young backup safeties we already have? I’m asking as I don’t know.
Charlie Weis' Leg
yes its a great back story but
He was a shut down corner at FSU and his physical ability ie combine was legit… 4.5 40 and 24 bench. So he may be a little raw but he has major upside and intangibles, and I know Pioli loves intangibles
You can never have too many good players.
Depth…we need depth.
R.I.P. Derrick Thomas. The Chiefs and the World have never been the same since your untimely death.
I like the DB upgrades, so far, but that doesn't mean I'm not always on the lookout for more talent/savvy.
Chiefs have numerous journeymen in the DB ranks they could part with, without upsetting the applecart, imo. Might be getting close to the “turnover limit” with all the new faces already working in, and they do seem to be on the verge of a total team concept with the guys they have and have been working with.
But if Rolle plays as smart as he is book-smart, we might see someone more athletic being sacrificed to the IQ gods, and Rolle’s measurables are legit. I just wonder why he was cut already.
"I ain't lyin' 'bout nothin'."
"Oh? So what exactly are you lying about?"
Well
he was drafted in the 5th round, and apparently the reason he slipped is because teams feared that he had too many aspirations that would take him away from football. The guy is a Rhode’s scholar, after all.

But not equivalent roster choices
Young and developing low draft choices = cheap. Leinart is unhappy, wants to be a starter today and expensive.
I've said this a couple of times... Lienart wanted to start in Arizona but he can't expect to go somewhere and start....
Not this season.
So you got the fax. So why didn't you add it to the resume? What do you mean? Of course martial arts training is relevant.
oh 1 more thing
do you really think Pioli / Haley liked Leinart’s going to the press in that mess, and accusing the coach of unfairness? Urm , no and not what they are looking for. Just my opinion.. pass and get better value for the buck. Save the big bucks for the truly great opportunities…
Maybe Matt had no choice. Maybe the Cards front office was being douche bags.

TV concensus on Leinart appears to be all about his mentality, not his skill set.

Brandon Stokely would be one I'd give a good look
Donkey’s cut him after he’s had a couple of good seasons with them. He’s one of the Shanahan hold-overs that McD seems determined to get rid of. I definitely think he’d be a nice fit for the Chief’s. Plus they should be able to get him on the cheap.
Also he runs the 40 in like 2 min flat.

"You've only got 10 fingers to stick in the dike. Is there a breaking point that pushes you over the edge?...Where's the limit?"
-Marty Schottenheimer
I know they will...
but to me, our two top guys are basically developmental. Neither Croyle nor Cassel have hit their ceiling yet. I’m not sure Croyle ever will—his build and injury history will keep him off the field—and Cassel, well, we’ll see for ourselves.
I’d like us to grab a young vet: A couple yrs older than Brodie and Matt, who’s been in different systems and shown enough skill to win, that they can bounce ideas off of. But I’m no GM, and probably shouldn’t be ;) lol
"You've only got 10 fingers to stick in the dike. Is there a breaking point that pushes you over the edge?...Where's the limit?"
-Marty Schottenheimer
A QB a couple years older than Cassel and Croyle would be 30
Not exactly what I’d call a young vet.
In a world where Kerry Collins, Mark Brunell and Todd Collins are getting meaningful backup jobs?
30 sure looks young, when it comes to the QB position.
"You've only got 10 fingers to stick in the dike. Is there a breaking point that pushes you over the edge?...Where's the limit?"

by saskwatch: Yes. Young, developmental QB for 3rd spot. And not be afraid to part with HIM at the drop of a hat.
That’s pretty much what they seem to be doing. Until KC makes another move as aggressive as the one that landed Cassel, I can see a revolving door at young, low-budget #3, until someone really shows he has growth potential (tangible) and knows how to help himself grow (intangible). Hopefully that’ll turn up a good one.
As long as Cassel’s healthy, they have the luxury of being patient with a player they really like, while at the same time not being afraid to part ways with a guy, who doesn’t go the extra mile for ’em.
"I ain't lyin' 'bout nothin'."
"Oh? So what exactly are you lying about?"

I'd take Bowe over Housh
But I’d take Housh over Chambers.
The three of them together would be a pretty good trio of WR’s.

wow, Id take chambers over tj at this point any day

Really? I suppose Chambers is more of a deep threat...
I guess if you look at last year, TJ had no one to take the pressure off him (and he’s not really a #1), and he still had a decent year.
Like I said, I’d be mainly interested in them as a trio. I think Housh’s talents are more toward slot WR anyways. Of course, where does that leave Dex…

Certainly budget isn’t a limiting factor, here. But I agree with others who see the obvious: He’s going to make catches we’ve all seen Copper, Urban, and Lawrence drop. If the price is right – and I think it is – this seems like a fairly low-risk move that could reap real dividends.

Heh. Maybe I misunderstood Lombardi or Lombardi was just plain wrong, but...
my understanding is that Seattle’s eating a pretty big chunk of salary and Houszh might not cost as much as one might think. It’s more about Houszh actually deciding he wants to play for somebody, and having some say as to the situation he’s in. If he took a liking to KC, and he MIGHT like the way they do things, now, maybe we hear the word “elite” attached to KC’s passing game, along with its now-respected running game.
To me, Houszh has seemed like a no-nonsense pro who’s been in a couple Pop Warner team situations that LEAD to his mouthing-off… Also, he seems like a natural fit for the slot receiver spot, putting 3 big, tough, and scrappy WRs on the field,
"I ain't lyin' 'bout nothin'."

Who is deepest in the positions we need?
For instance, Vikings have to make some tough cuts especially on the line. Greenbay has a deep roster. Where else do you think we’ll be looking hard for gems?

I think we’re close, very close! We just need a couple more pieces to the puzzle and we could go from a possible 8-8 team to a possible playoff contender. Lets pray that another teams trash is a Chiefs treasure.

The Last Thing Cassel Needs
Is the same guy that had his starting spot in college on this roster. I say no to Leinart. As much as I’ve bashed Cassel he has at least had one solid year in the NFL. Leinart on the other hand is more remembered for beer bonging with college chicks in Arizona.

Besides...
Outside of Carson Palmer, can you think of a Southern Cal QB who started at Southern Cal that’s done anything in the NFL? No?…
Sanchez: Rexy isn’t a believer
Leinart: Whiz wasn’t a believer
Booty: Hasn’t developed, on his 2nd or 3rd team…
SC just isn’t the place for successful NFL QB’s. What does it say that the best SC quarterbacks have been a guy who went through three coaches in 4 yrs in college (Palmer) and a guy who never started (Cassel)??

Of those listed, Rolle is the most intriguing to me
Rolle has a lot of positives about his game. He is as smart on the field as he is in the classroom, which is pretty smart. He has great instincts and always seems to be around the ball, but his best assets are a little easier to notice. Rolle, at 6-2 and 218 pounds has great size and strength. He defends the pass extremely well and has the quickness to cover the field sideline to sideline.

I've been rapping for about seveteen years okay? I don't write my stuff anymore I just kick it from my head you know what I'm sayin? I can do that. No disrespect but that's how I am.
Yeah, I could get on board
With cutting one of our bottom safeties. I just want to keep McGraw around.
I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.
Cheap too as a 6th rounder

How about Crompton
Chargers just cut him and he could help us game plan. Chargers cut cb Vasher and Wr Ajirotuttu.
Mr J
KC Chiefs Fan
Like this move.
Fits Pioli’s style for QB’s…over 6’3 and 225, can run a little outside the pocket, above-avg arm. But can we snag him before someone else does (incl. SD themselves)?

Yep, he was.

What Does Housh Add To This Team?
I mean Pollard had more talent and a bad attitude and they cut him. What kind of message is he sending this young core of players if after throwing a whiney fit in Seattle we sign Housh? The guy is a possession receiver with no deep speed. Bowe is better and Chambers has more deep speed. I just don’t see where Housh fits in on this team.

I'm rec'ing this comment too...
We’re really on the same page today.

I still think of Houszh as the solid WR who kept his mouth shut in Cincy.
Having to publicly support 85, while, very likely, he felt like the situation and 85’s antics were ridiculous. That’ll scar a guy. ;o)

hmm...would u have a bad attitude
if u were a top nfl player and some pop warner coach way in over his head was ruining ur team?

More Cuts
Adam_Schefter Cuts keep coming: Vikings cut RB Ian Johnson, Titans cut RB Samkon Gado and Raiders cut QB Colt Brennan.
Chiefs Will
Sam Hurd refused to take a pay cut. Thats a guy I could see us going after.

OMG, go get him!
He’s like Urban but with actual talent. And Haley scouted and coached him in Dallas!

DraftAce report on Rolle
Prototypical size and strength. Top intangibles; smart, hard worker, coach favorite. Looks very smooth in man coverage; has the athleticism and fluidity of a cornerback. Could play either safety position.

I Say We Sign
A nose tackle, 3rd QB, and maybe Rolle. I doubt we pick up a WR. It takes a while for WR to gel with their QB and the last thing Cassel needs besides Leinart looking over his shoulder is to try and mesh with a new face at WR like he had to deal with all of last year. So my guess is we don’t sign any WR.
I mostly agree
I would disagree on the QB aspect now though. With Croyle’s propensity for injury, I would rather have Palko for his knowledge of the playbook, should Cassel go down.
NT agreed, WR agreed, Rolle agreed. I think I would target quality OL instead of QB

Maybe
He was a bit undersized coming out of college… If has added some weight without losing speed, then maybe. But I would wait for the time being and see what else rolls down the pike.

Interestingly we don't have to target just one
We can pick any of the released players that look better than the 53 we have. Right now, it seems there are QBs, WRs, and a safety. I’m hoping an OT and NT come up.
QB Chris Simms
I like him better than Palko for sue!
Rather have a young guy that might develop into something special
rather than an old one I know won’t.
+1 Saskwatch
We have Croyle who could fill in a few games for an injured Cassel. I say we get a high upside QB for our 3rd and not some re-tread that has bounced all over the league.
Got any on your wish list Saskwatch?
Rhett Bomar…Colt Brennan…Keith Null…JD Booty…

Boo Robinson
rookie DT out of wake forrest, I remember lots of people around here where talking about him as a late rounder to groom as a NT. he was the eagles 6th rder i think, but not sure
Any Scouting Reports on Boo Robinson?
I don’t watch a lot of college football as a boycott of the bowl system so I really only start seeing names at the combine or once they hit the NFL.
He's not NT size
he barely hits 300 and is only a bit over 6’… Thats all off the top of my head though.
11101010011011101011. Yeah that just happened
Screw That
He’s another under-size NT/DE -we have a whole slew of those types. We need a beast in there-some huge bowl of jelly that looks like ‘The Blob’ from X-Men.
Surround a word with hyphens touching at either side, and it will cross-out what's between the hyphens.
To avoid this, leave a space to either side of all your hyphens?

Sounds like Lokey to me.

Lokey's a true 300 pounder, now, also.
Dorsey’s also a relatively short 300 pounder. Funny how I was thinking Boo Robinson was gonna be the shit, in the early run-up to the draft.

I'd prefer White over Lienart
Imagine a Wildcat set with White lined up at QB, Charles at RB, and McCluster in the slot. HOw the heck are you going to game plan against that.. Throw in Bowe split out wide and you’ve got problems..
What I like about White is that although he will be the third string QB, he can still contribute more to the team than sitting on the bench all year.. Which is likely what Palko will be doing.
11101010011011101011. Yeah that just happened
If we did go with a QB, I would definitely take White over Leinart.
However, I don’t think this is the time to target a QB, what with the season just around the corner
I've been rapping for about seveteen years okay? I don't write my stuff anymore I just kick it from my head you know what I'm sayin? I can do that. No disrespect but that's how I am.
Most Teams Don't Carry 3 QBs on Game Day
Which is why this idea is good in theory but for it to work White would have to play Special Teams or be the back-up making Croyle hte emergency QB. Neither is a good scenario and likely why he was cut in the first place. Also, if Pat White couldnt beat out the stiffs at QB in Miami he sure as hell isn’t going to beat out Cassel.
Very good point.
totally disregarded the fact that QB 3 is always inactive. Still, White is probably more talented than Palko is. Another thing to consider though.. IF instead of deactivating QB3 we deactivate our last receiver, we could also give White some WR reps.
11101010011011101011. Yeah that just happened
Now thats using your thinkin' bone

White'd have a career for himself if he'd pull a Randle-El and start running pass routes.
He’s fooling himself if he thinks he’s an NFL QB.

we should cut berry....
and get 400 1st round picks
housh or hurd...just saying... but really,
we should shore up the depth on the line
did Hurd get cut?
I thought with Craytons trade Hurd was safe…
If he is cut he’s a solid option.. If it’s a trade the price tag probably went up because of Craytons release
11101010011011101011. Yeah that just happened
Hurd refused to take a pay cut this morning.
So there’s a chance he gets cut.

WR James Hardy
Released by Buffalo. Liked him coming out of Indiana. Thought he was polished, not sure what happened in Buffalo. Big WR, not so sure that he would fit in Chiefs offensive plans but was a personal favorite coming out of that draft.
Ride the Wave, Tame the Tiger, Hear Energy Roar!
other than
no OL, no QB, good runners

Matt Lienart
According to many of the news radio guys, the Cards are looking at this like…he has had 4 yrs in this system…Anderson just got here this yr and is already neck and neck with him….so who has the most potential going forward?….Lienart has no fire, looks like he does not give a shit while on the field…goes three and out and simply walks off the field like,“oh well”….no leadership abilities and the other players just dont respond to him……I wouldnt want him around eating up a roster spot.
I would bring in OG Urbrik and OC Hartwig from the Steelers
C Hartwig went to KU and would be an upgrade. Urbrik looked good coming out of Wisconsin.
Hardy would be nice to have for some size at WR and a project for Haley.
My list I hope we look at
WR Dez Briscoe, TE Chase Coffman, C Hartwig, OG Urbik, DE Jarvis Green, C Seth Olsen, G Donald Thomas, DE/OLB Bobby McCray, NT/DE Jay Alford, CB/S Donovan Warren, DE Jay Richardson, FB Manase Tonga, DT Jeff Owens, LB Matt Wilhelm, S Myron Rolle,
i think WE need is 100% is a pass rush so i say focus on D-Line and while hell O-Line also …. i rather we draft a QB (ie) Locker from Washington haha and i see Lienart going with his old coach in Seattle and i see TJ Housh going to the Rams since Bradford starting give him that #1
Flowers, Carr, Lewis, & Berry = SCARY SECONDARY
NEW ARROWHEAD = BETTER TEAM ... CHIEFS 2011 AFC WEST CHAMPS
RELEASE THE McCLUSTER BOMB!!
we should NOT hope to draft Locker
after all, that means we had a shitty year and are at top of draft. I hope that we are much nearer to mid-bottom of draft order.
