Passing and Rushing: This Preseason in the AFC West
Passing
via t2.gstatic.com
We have looked pretty good passing in my opinion this preseason (at least first team). We just have to do better at throwing the long ball. I also think we were really vanilla in the packages that were ran. Charlie will have some tricks up his sleeve. Oh, and it didn't help that Palko threw some balls for us either. Here is how we stack up against our rivals.

So, what do we see looking at this chart? We were ranked 29th in the NFL in passing yards. That isn't good at all and only 3 TD's is horrible. We did get more TD's than Chargers though so I guess Preseason numbers are really meaningless. I want you guys to focus on the sack numbers here.
Rushing

We will be a running team that sets up the pass this year. I don't think that was any mystery there. If our defense actually steps up, think the Jets here. I was very impressed with our rushing numbers and Jackie Battle turned out to be a beast. Here is how we stack up against our rivals.

So what do we see from this table? We were 2nd in the Preseason with rushing yards. We also have over a whole yard carry per average than any team in our division. We also stacked up pretty decently in rushing TD's with our rivals. Our first down's rushing is just crazy. What do you guys think/
Go Chiefs!

I remember seeing those stats somewhere earlier
But they remain impressive. We have a very, very impressive set of RB’s who seem to have figured out how to run behind our line.
Remember how concerned we were about Jones after the first game? And even the second? I believe he put some of those fears to rest with some nice looking runs against PHI and GB. And Battle, like you said, has looked impressive.
My only concern is how we get enough touches for everyone.
I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.
yeah I think all three rb need touches now
after seeing how good battle looked. TJ might go from 1st to 3rd string by the start of next year if not before that. Probably the only thing to prevent that is his leadership
The thing is...
teams ARE stacking the box against and our scat backs can still get positive yards. Our run game will be lethal this year. I think we will be the #1 rushing attack in the league by seasons end. Hopefully some of that will allow Cassel to get more comfy back there and get his game straightened out too.
If our defense is as good as they have looked in the preseason and we run the ball as well as we should…we may very well have ourselves a competitive football team sooner as opposed to later.
That is an interesting point
When you have two backs as fast as ours (JC and Dex), stacking the box isn’t necessarily going to be effective. With how fast they can hit the edge, it’s also risky, because it leaves fewer players back in the secondary to contain of a runner gets to the second level.
I can’t think of a single team that boasts a pair of backs as fast, talented, and versitile as JC and Dex. When you add in Jones and (surprisingly) Battle, I truly think we have a quad of backs that are unmatched in the league.
