Kansas City Chiefs S Jarrad Page Signs Tender; Still Not Reporting

Many thanks to stag for getting the initial FanShot up about this. I was just at St. Joseph's hospital where we just admitted Old Man Thorman. He's got some sort of infection and will spend a couple of days in the hospital. Please keep him in your prayers.

Jason LaCanfora gave us the heads up this afternoon that Kansas City Chiefs safety Jarrad Page signed his contract tender this afternoon.

What does that mean exactly? A number of things actually.

It now means that Page counts towards the 53-man roster (which will be cut down from 75 to 53 tomorrow). Page is currently listed on KCChiefs.com as being on the roster, which means the Chiefs have 76 players on the roster right now. Someone will have to go sooner than the deadline of 4 PM eastern tomorrow.

It also means that by not officially being Chiefs' property by not signing his tender, Jarrad Page avoided the approximately $17,000 in daily fines for missing training camp practices.

Page may be traded or, in the worst case scenario, cut from the team. I'm sure the Chiefs' brass saw this move coming. Now it forces them to figure out in the next 24 hours or so what the heck to do with a player who doesn't want to play for the Chiefs.

My guess is that Jarrad Page is traded over the next 24 hours. Perhaps a deal is already in place and this is a formality.

I have been on here for months hoping he would sign his tender, report to camp and help out this team. I was in his corner for the longest time, but now this is the last straw “trying to force his hand” haha read saskwatch comment below, that nails it on the head!

Nobody has fallen from good graces with Chiefs fans faster than he has.

It really doesn’t make much sense to me either. It seems like one of those fights where someone misunderstands what the other is saying and gets pissed, but both sides want to show who has the bigger balls and wont back down.

by Ray Brown on Sep 3, 2010 4:28 PM CDT up reply actions

No, it's pretty apparent what happened.

Page had a boo-boo

Haley said “WTF Jarad are you good enough to play for this team?!?! Get your panties out a bunch and get your ass on the field”

Page reluctantly played, got hurt from a non-related injury several weeks later, and is now out to spite Haley because he called out his toughness.

Pretty cut and dry to me.

During the preseason he had a shoulder injury or something.

The injury that put him on IR was a calf injury in like week 7.

I may be wrong

but I thought that was a common practice for people who reported after preseason was over. It didn’t require an injury, simply that you weren’t in condition to play a game yet. But they may have to have him on the roster and THEN they can add someone in after he’s on PUP, which won’t be of any help tomorrow.

Even if he did want to play for us,

I don’t think it would make sense, even if he was in mid-season form (however good that is for Page, who I never really found that impressive), for him to be ahead of McGraw OR Kendrick in the depth chart. We don’t need you Jarrad! Next time hire a professional agent instead of your brother!

I actually wouldn’t mind putting him on ST or as our #3 or #4 safety, keeping him on the bench, possibly making him a “healthy scratch”, although you have to worry about his attitude affecting the locker room. Tough call for Pioli.

Will anyone really bite on a trade?

I don’t really see us wasting a roster spot just so we can fine him. So if teams just hold off on a trade, they can probably get him for free after he’s released.

by AdamKC on Sep 3, 2010 4:31 PM CDT via mobile reply actions

Which, I'm assuming, is why he's doing this

To force his way out.

It’s basically flipping Pioli/Haley off one more time. Don’t sign until the 11th hour so it’s obvious you won’t play and they HAVE to get rid of you, thus taking away your trade value.

In the meantime, the team probably won’t want to just stick an unproductive player on the roster.

He could’ve just signed a while back and told them privately that he was going to be a no-show, thus giving them a chance to trade him, but this way he gets to be what he accused them if being: vindictive.

Here's what I'd do

*cut one extra player, and let them know to wait by their phone and they’ll be back…

*leave Page on the roster till he can be traded, or whatever.

*once he’s been traded, bring the other guy back

*based on my 53 man roster, the last guy on the roster would be Javarris Williams, Quinten Lawrence or Tyler Palko… not a big risk there

My crowning haha, WTF, lol moment in Madden

Came when I traded my 21st overall pick and Chambers for the Giants 7th overall and drafted a 360lb DT, top 5 talent. The guy is a monster.

His name is Mount Cody.

So you got the fax. So why didn't you add it to the resume? What do you mean? Of course martial arts training is relevant.

Actually it's Mylan Jeffcoat,(I know, WTF)...

And he could eat Cody for breakfast…

I fudged up my salary cap and had to get rid of Tyson Jackson for a bag of beans.

I like it.

Charles is a lot of fun to play with, and Berry is pretty good too. I’ll give it an 8/10

I love the names of the drafted players in Madden

...And as the roar of 80,000 red-clad great plains warriors fills the hallowed halls of Arrowhead, it will strike fear into the hearts of lesser men. For on that field, individual men toil for something greater than individual honors. They toil as brothers-in-arms, as 53 spirits striving towards a single purpose and driven by a single goal: The glory that comes with vanquishing your foes. They will achieve their birthright, they will be champions.

If we can get a 5th then we get back the pick we used to replace him.

Im all for that.
