Brady Quinn a Chief??

Mark Shlereth, former Bronco and current ESPN analysist stated this morning it would not surprise him if Brady Quinn is cut. If so, would Charlie Wies make a case for him in KC.

Star-divide

Remember Coach Charlie had him at Notre Dame. Palko is not the answer, so would an unproven, ex-first rounder, with game experience fit in as our third string QB? Has Quinn even showed that he has anything worthwhile to bring to our team?

Obviously he had some good skills when he was made a first round draft choice, as Cleveland traded back into the first round to draft him.  What has he done lately? Traded from Cleveland for a running back to the Donkeys. He's not been impressive in preseason on his new team, with Tebow expected to beat him out of the back up job. Throw in a few INT's and he is suddenly on the outside, looking for a job. Very Possible.

Enter the KC Chiefs and Coach Wies. Having a talented, but uncertain commodity who Charlie has experience with, prolably knowing what buttons to push, comes in to a familiar offense and is not asked to do much but learn the system and run the scout team.

What I am unsure about is his salary, which is surely part of the reason for his release in Denver. First round dollars as a third stringer. If cut by Denver then he would not be due his contract money or would he. I just don't know how that works in the NFL.

But what I am sure of is that I would rather have him than Palko. Surely Pioli is keeping an eye on the Waiver Wire for another QB. Just a what if scenario from a comment made on tv. GO CHIEFS!!!!

Ha Ha

Smith would knock him out again. I would say bring him in just for the laugh but I don’t want Smith suspended for a few games.

lol damn I was going to say something to that effect

Seriously though, Brady Quinn as a third string QB? Come on, is there any question as to whether that would be an upgrade over Palko? Plus I am pretty sure he knows Weis’ offense…

I've heard around that he is most likely going to be a Chief

Now, you never know until the deal is done in this league. Just ask McDaniels and Cutler about that one. But, it just might happen.

I don’t know that I like that move if they choose to do it or not. One thing about Weis, is that he can turn just about any QB into a big time winner. He did it with Quinn once before and he might feel he could do it again.

All in all, I don’t know if I like the move, but he’s better than Palko.

Quinn As A Chief

There’s no way in hell I’d want the Chiefs to trade for the guy, and he’s probably never going to develop into a legit NFL starter (because his deep throws ABSOLUTELY suck), but honestly if the Chiefs could grab him off waivers he wouldn’t be a downgrade. He can stay healthy (something Brodie Croyle will never be able to do) and he’s probably got a better ceiling than Tyler Palko…and since neither of our backups can throw deep either, he might actually be an upgrade. And he’s young enough that maybe Weis could coach him up (although I wouldn’t put any money on it).

Basically, the thought of Brady Quinn coming to KC merits a “meh” from me, but I wouldn’t say it’s a bad move.

Oh, And His Contract

Was largely performance-based, which is part of the reason the Browns weren’t feeling rushed to get him on the field. For a first-rounder, he had a very team-friendly deal. In fact, he probably should have fired his agent for signing it.

The only player I would trade for him is someone we were planning on getting rid of anyway

He is not worth any player that would be making our 53 man roster… there really just isn’t enough need for a mediocre qb. But I’ve heard shittier ideas. I like the thought that Weis could coach him into the NFL qb everyone thought he was going to be. Just don’t think its all that likely to happen.

I Wouldn't Trade Anything For Him

The Chiefs should only grab him if he’s waived and will cost them nothing.

I thought Brady has been injured every season hes played in?

Maybe I’m thinking of someone else but I coulda sworn he hadn’t finished out a full season yet.

by SoCalChief17 on Sep 4, 2010 12:41 AM CDT up reply actions

Trade? No. Waiver wire? Sure

If nothing else, get him to tell us everything he knows about McDaniels playbook and then send him packing if it’s not working out.

I like Quinn

Always have, he is a stand-up guy and a helluva worker. I really liked the way he played against USC his senior year. He played that whole game banged up and almost pulled it out against an obviously superior team with loads of NFL talent. Not to mention he is a republican!!! haha, don’t want to start any fights with that one so please have mercy on me.

I've got mercy on you bigbe :)

…but I’m not a fan of Quinn’s accuracy, or lack thereof. Don’t we already have a QB with similar dimensions (6’4, 230 v/s 6’3, 225) with a good work ethic, experience in the Erhardt-Perkins offense, big-college background and mediocre stats?

I’d still prefer a young vet at #3, like Pat Ramsey, and keeping Brodie as the top backup. But that’s just me…

Attitude folks

Quinn does not want to be a 3rd quarterback for anybody so why even consider it.

by wrm on Sep 3, 2010 6:00 PM CDT reply actions

Wasn't Peterson really enamored with Quinn?

I seem to remember hearing Carl talk about how much he liked Quinn, that if the Chiefs were picking sooner they might draft him. Then Quinn fell like a rock in the draft and Cleveland traded up to get him right before the Chiefs picked. I always wondered what Carl would have done if Quinn had been available.

Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.

by Rev. Slappy on Sep 3, 2010 10:11 PM CDT reply actions

I wouldn't mind

I’ve always liked him, and while I’m glad we didn’t take him with our first a few years back I wouldn’t mind him in KC. You never know, he might take off with Weis again and become a really good quarterback….

by SoCalChief17 on Sep 4, 2010 12:42 AM CDT reply actions

Sort of

We care that it’s not Palko.

by Tarkus on Sep 4, 2010 11:20 AM CDT up reply actions

I'd rather see Pat Ramsey backing up Brodie.

Palko’s been unimpressive, but he’s ten times more accurate than Quinn is. BQ might have a stronger arm, but if the passes end up on the ground or picked off…who cares if they got there faster?

We almost drafted Quinn

But Cleveland moved up to take him. Come to think of it, I have never thanked them for that.

Thank you, Cleveland!

what makes anyone think that Pioli would bring a QB now?

he has avoided any and all competition for Cassel since he traded for him.

no draft
no trade

by Home skillet on Sep 4, 2010 12:34 PM CDT reply actions

I think Brodie's better competition than we think, skillet.

Croyle will never be an NFL starter based strictly on build and health history…but he’s got game. I wonder how good the in-house competition has been…

Just for my own sake, can you tell me why you dislike Cassel so strongly? I’ve read your posts previously but I haven’t been able to tell why you’re so set against him.

Please name me a team

that is already set at the starting QB position that has brought in someone to compete against the starter, that just doesnt happen. And whether people like it or not we are set at the starting QB position, at least for this year. Oh and who exactly is this person that Pioli should have brought in to compete against Cassel?

by badassz1987 on Sep 4, 2010 1:06 PM CDT up reply actions

If they do or if they don't...

we should have enough info for a smart decision by this coaching staff. Weis was his coach at ND right? And Crennel was his coach at Cleveland right? I’m not really a Quinn fan but if they brought him in I think I would trust the coaches opinions on this one.
