NFL Power Rankings Week 4: KC Chiefs Make Some Big Jumps
Last week, those in the media writing up NFL power rankings were still skeptical of the Kansas City Chiefs. This week, that skepticism still exists but more and more people are putting the Chiefs in their top ten NFL teams.
I've rounded up a handful of power rankings from around the web to see where the rest of the media thinks the Chiefs stand. Joel will have his SB Nation power rankings up soon.
ESPNPower Rankings:20(23) "But for the Bucs, they'd be biggest surprise to this point ."Whoops, this was last week's ranking. Waiting for the update. -Chris- FoxSports Power Rankings: 10 (22) "I'm keep getting fans on twitter saying they haven't played a good team yet. Sure, that's partially true, but you have to give the Chiefs credit for beating the teams on their schedule. You can't deny they are a much-improved team, especially on the defensive side of the ball."
- Walter Football Power Rankings: 20 (23)
- RealGM Power Rankings: 5 (20) "For the 2010 season, our weekly team rankings will be based solely off our Trench Counter formula, which means a completely objective examination,"
- Pro Football Talk Power Rankings: 10 (12) "Speed, youth, enthusiam, creativity. Playoffs?"
10th or 20th in the NFL? Which are we closer to?

That seems like a legitimate ranking, based upon what we have accomplished so far.

Im actually surprised they have us at 20!
The picture is a Chiefs pumpkin, yeah that is right a Chiefs pumpkin.
Seems like Walter only looks at the team's starting QB..
Nevermind the fact that we’ve been right there at the top of the league in almost every other facet of the game.
Walter sucks
Horribly biased toward the Chiefs. Surprised they’re ranked 20. Disregard.

Walter
They list the top fantasy players from the previous week and not one Chief is mentioned. Even at QB they have Fitz-Patrick and Batch that had a worse week but not Cassel. Cassel was 250 with 3 TD’s and 1 INT. That is as good or better then a lot of the QB’s listed. They really do hate the Chiefs. O well hate us all the way to the playoffs.

Walter is a tard
Instead of mentioning Vick by his name, he has put Vick as QB dog killer and then posted his stats. I find that pretty lame.

Tired of comments about who we have played
Who cares that the teams we have played are 1-8… two teams, San Diego and San Francisco were pre-season picks to win their divisions and many analysts continue to say that both teams are going to win their divisions – so how can you on one hand say we haven’t played anyone and then say two of the teams we have played are going to win their division???

About the 1-8
I saw in another post someone pointed out that we gave 3 of those losses to those teams. If we started 0-3 those teams would be 4-5. Makes the 1-8 number not seem so drastic. Flawed stat….

Meanwhile, PITT is 3-0 against teams that are 6-0 not against PITT
Now, I’ll be the first to say that Tampa and TEN haven’t really beat anyone of significant (TEN beat OAK and the woefully bad NYG, and TB beat CAR and CLE). Either way, the only thing we can do to get respect on these polls is beat Indy. If we are undefeated with a victory over Indy, we’ll be top 5 ranking in everything except Walter.
Btw, anyone else notice that no one is calling the Bears win over GB a fluke? 18 penalties, including a critical PI, and (gasp) a special teams score? But that’s not as flukey as us beating SD huh?

I hope the Bears & Chiefs stay the last unbeaten teams. Both were hated on before the beginning of the season and both have beaten the favorites to win their division and both are still hated on.
Everyone has been so sure Pit would only be 2-2 by the time Big Ben came back, I hope he gets an unbeaten team and plays like crap, would love to see him out performed by the 4th string guy.

Think that was me.
I could understand if we didn’t play any of those teams and they had that 1-8 record and how it could make those teams look week. But 3 of those losses are from the Chiefs.

Well, considering we are one of 3 teams that are 3-0
I’d say we should be ranked in the top 3. Seriously, why should a team with a loss be ranked above us?
Because power rankings aren't just standings
I don’t comment on this site for the people that are against me and think that I can’t do it. I comment for the people that have always believed in me. I comment for my family, for my wife, for my mother so it really comes down to that.
I can't say I agree
I mean, who would you rather play, Chicago or IND?
Standings are important, sure. But there ARE teams out there with worse records than us that are better teams (at least I think so).
I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.

The scedule argument is ridiculous.
We weren’t expected to win in any of these games by most “experts”. So we go out and prove them all wrong and we still aren’t getting noticed. We steal a win in one of the next two and the national bandwagon will fill up but they will still have one foot hanging off.
We have a shot...at what...we don't know yet.
True, KC has been the betting line underdog in all three games

And don't underestimate the win at Cleveland
No they aren’t a great team but it was their home opener against a team coming off an emotionally draining late MNF game. That’s not an easy thing to bounce back from, just look at Baltimore, NO and SF for examples already…all lost following their MNF appearance.

And don't forget that Cleveland played a highly-regarded BALT team tough on the road
that game wasn’t decided until the fourth quarter. I’m beginning to think Cleveland is one of those teams that is better than their record says.
"First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win." -Gandhi.
Cleveland is a bad team on the cusp of being good.
The truism that good teams find a way to win close games while bad teams find ways to lose them is just that – true. The Browns have some good players who put them in a position to win, but they aren’t finding ways to do it yet. Honestly, I don’t think they (consistently) will until they find a better coach than Eric Mangini.

I’d say between 15-18….but if Cassel puts up another game like last week, then BOOM, up 3-5 pts….if he puts together 2 or 3 games in a row like last week, we should be closer to #10. I’m a Cassel fan, or trying to be, but consistency in QB is a big deal, IMO. We’re headed in the right direction, though….no one will be looking past us for very long. Great job Pioli and staff.

With the way we've been playing, anything is possible.
Including a win or two in the next two games. I think if the defense maintains its confidence without getting over-confident they can handle the offenses of the Colts and Texans. If we can beat San Diego and San Fran, especially after San Fran took New Orleans down to the wire, the Chiefs are a legitimate team. Are we good enough to win through the playoffs? Who knows, but probably not. And that’s okay. But the Dolphins pulled off an amazing turn around season a few years ago.
Playing as the underdog in both games will be a benefit. It’ll make our guys work harder. We still have a lot to prove and that’s a great thing in my opinion. So let the power rankings continue to hate on us. In 3 weeks when we have this discussion again, we’ll see if we are closer to 10 or 20. I think if we win one and don’t get blown out in the other, we are closer to 10.
Dear Haters, F@&Y% U!!! Love always, Kobe.

Closer to 10 in my book; fan attendance = 30th
ESPN also gave us good credit yesterday and actually evaluated us on air for the first time in years. When they come out with their updated power rankings, I can only imagine they move us up a few spots from 20.
However, I give our fan attendance ranking at about 30th in the league. We were one of eight undefeated teams left in the league this past week and the club level was almost completely empty and the upper-deck was far from full as well. While the people attending the game were great and enthusiastic, it’d be nice to see better numbers at Arrowhead.

I agree with 10 - 5.
I look at it like this…..I dont think that there are 10 teams that are better than us right now. I honestly believe that we can play with anybody. With that said, I believe that The Ravens, The Colts, The Steelers, The Jets, The Saints, and Depending on which teams show up, the Cowboys and Pats. Those are the only seven teams that I think even compare to us. Im not saying I think that they are better because I don’t, but I think these are the only ones we should be able to be behind.
The packers would have been here, but not after last night. The bears SHOULD be, not could be 1 and 2. They beat the Lions off of a true fluke, and the pack gave that game away last night.
I like us around 18 for now
The Chiefs have definitely earned some respect, still there is a lot to prove.
IND and HOU will be good opportunities for Matt Cassel to show us that he can win us playoff games. If he can show up big, and the defense can be stout, all we have to do is take these games to the fourth quarter and win at least one. That will prove we are legit, and make a top 10-15 appearance.
If we crush IND or HOU at home we should float around 5 or 8
If we beat both of them, by even a small margin. Then your looking at top 3-5.
The two weeks after the bye will definitely show us just who we are

But my buddy forgot to do it for me while he was in Vegas. Oh well.
If Cassel can somehow become a good NFL QB by the end of the season and our starters remain healthy it’s not an impossible scenario. Not that I expect it to happen but if this team remains focused every week there are 10-12 realistically winnable games still on the schedule.

we need to smash on the colts and the texans to get some respect
Either way even if we beat those team they will say peyton manning is losing a step or two or that bob sanders is the missing link. It just kills me these sports shows the teams that are winning get no praise we had a 30 second highlight no break down of our game no comments . but for brett favre and the nfc east they do an entire break down of the games its horrible.
FOUR F'S FIND UM FEEL UM FUGUM FORGET UM.
I partially agree. They will come up with some reason why we won (When we win)
but it will not be because Peyton lost a step. They love Peyton. They would blame it on the rain again before they say that. And yes I know we are playing in Indy.
also I have a question if cassel clearly does not show up for the colts and texans
Do you think that brodie gets another shot at qb ? And the star search begins?
FOUR F'S FIND UM FEEL UM FUGUM FORGET UM.
There is a good chance that he might not be able to show up against Indy.
Mathis on Richardson or a rusty O Callaghan could be a problem. We haven’t played edge rushers like those two in Indy. Scheme will be really important.
in my opinion those are play off teams if he dont show up at all and has another
horrible game i think we should atleast start taking a look for another qb.

Charles Davis pointed out that all three phases are working -
Game 1 was won by special teams.
Game 2 was won by defense.
Game 3 was won by offense.
They pointed out that Cassel is getting weapons around him again like in NE.
Warren Sapp actually said, “Yes, I believe in the Chiefs”.

Can anyone tell me Why the Bears are so highly ranked
In most of these Rankings they’re top 5, while they stick us at mid-level. Granted that win over GB was good, but how much more of a fluke can you get with 18 penalties in one game for GB. We clearly dominated a team that went toe-to-toe with the Saints, and we barely go up 3-4 spots it astounds me. The reasons they cited for not putting us higher: “they play the Colts and Texans in the next few week and will come back down to Earth” basically the only reason we’re not higher is because of who we play later, and yet no other teams rankings are based that way.
Green Bay Vs. Chargers
Was our win over the Chargers any less impressive? The Chargers have been a very good team for years just like Green Bay. They Both have a great QB, some weapons at wideout and a suspect running game. Here are where the two teams are ranked GB – 11th (Passing), 22 (rushing), 3rd (Opp Pass) and 18th (Opp Rush). GB has played the Eagles, Bills and Bears. Chargers 2nd (Passing), 12th (Rushing), 6th (Opp Passing) and 9th (Opp Rushing). The Chargers have played our Chiefs, Jags and Seattle. The Chiefs and Bears are a wash at this point. Jags and Bills are a wash so GB has faced one better opp in the Eagles over Chargers losing against Seattle. If the Chiefs were 8 -8 last year we are a top 5 team right now. I’m just tired of having wins that the Chiefs have fought hard for discredited by the Media.
