Most everyone looks at this and thinks about what the Chiefs will do...but in reality, it is about the Will of the Chiefs. That is what builds great teams. Their will to win. And as they rebuild, that includes rebuilding the will to win..the confidence to win. Unfortunately, that creates controversey within the fans. We look for IMMEDIATE, tangible results. Leadership of a great team does not fall upon one player, one coach, one fan. It is the responsibility of each player and coach to provide leadership and understand that they have roles that change with every play and every game. You can't have too many leaders. Which is great for us, because we have a lot of chiefs.
I'll comment one last time on issues that have developed because of the building of our leadership. We screamed for DJ to get more playing time, then we screamed for him to be traded...but look at him now. We screamed for Dorsey to be traded because he wasn't coming into his own and wouldn't fit the 3-4 scheme....but look at him now. We screamed that Jackson was going to be a bust...but look at him now. We screamed at how could we draft McCluster and not a NT...but look at him now! The list goes on and on. How many times did we second guess players and their roles and look at them now. Pioli and Haley have pretty well proven that their plan is working and that each player is developing into leaders..and that equates to winning folks.
We scream for more Charles, rather then a veteran leader and tough between the tackles runner....I would be willing to bet that we will be saying very shortly, LOOK AT THEM NOW...when this combo gels, we will be what we did know going into the season...a very formidable rushing team. Look at us now...and we are not even close to running like we can.
Cassel. Brought in because he exudes the desire and desire to be a leader and hard worker. Just like Vrabel. Just like Jones. Yes he has struggled to produce awesome numbers. But lets truthfully look at the situation. Last year was an influx of new receivers and continual mixing and matching, all the while trying to understand if the defense of the other team had started the play lined up his own backfield. Enter this year....another influx of new players. 50 percent of your go to receivers are new and one of your old ones is reborn, probably trying to learn a bit more of himself in his role. Bowe, if the reports of his new idiology is true, will take a few games to come into his own. A new mindset, truly does alter your style of play...and we will be saying Look at him now, if he truly has changed. Dexter is learning that in the NFL, speed is great, but how you use it is an adjustment. That will be a test of how great he can be..how he can transition into a great receiver. Moeaki is showing those of us who questioned the pick that he may be one very good TE. The point is that a lot of the receivers in the league, and fans also, believe being a receiver is an individual thing...that is far from the truth. Our receiving corps has to gel just like all aspects of a team...when that happens and we look at Cassel later in the year, just maybe we will say Look at him now.
But for now....LOOK AT US NOW!!!!!
