Jamaal Charles is one of if not the best player on the team. So why hasn't haley used him more in these two games?
I think the reason might be his contract situation. He is in the last year of his rookie contract and is looking for a long term deal. Both sides have been very quiet about this and jamaal has said that he's not thinking about it and being professional.
The last time the organization gave a rich long term contract to a running back was 2.7. This might lead them to be a little hesitant to give another running back a new long term deal. If they don't use him that much and he has a bad or not-so-good year the organization will have more leverage in contract negotiations. I was a supporter of giving 2.7 a new contract and I am also a supporter of keeping our talented player. That includes Derrick Johnson and Charles.
Charles is too dynamic and should be getting more touches. Whether that be in the passing game or running game. He has great run after the catch ability which would help Cassel since he doesn't have the strongest arm. The same could be said about McCluster. Both of them have to be used more.
As a fellow APer says "Pay the man and Play the man." or something like that.
