I just want to acknowledge what has been happening with our Chiefs so far this season. Obviously, we are 2-0. Many nay sayers and analysts still are not giving us any respect. That's fine by me, I would much rather take it.
We won the first game because it rained on the Chargers.
Even though very few of the analysts that I saw picked us, we beat Cleveland because they are the Browns. We should have beat them according to some of the press.
Well I say that we are a good team, and I base this on a phrase that I have found to be very true over the years.
Good teams find a way to win, and Bad teams find a way to lose. How many times has this held true for us in the past?
There were games that we blew with some small error that lost the game for us. The pats dynasty was a great example of this. They had several clutch players. The thing about a clutch player is that you have to actually be in the "clutch" to have 1. Those patriot teams had several close games where Brady had to lead comeback drives, or Adam Vinatieri had to kick game winning kicks. We don't have Brady, but we are doing the same thing they used to do, and that is Whatever it takes.
Whether it be special teams, defense, a great play call, we are winning in ways that we did not have the ability to win in before. Im loving it.
OK. on to my positives. (In no particular order)
#1. Attitude. I used to feel that we were too nice as a team. I do not like dirty players, but we just seemed soft. There was no one on our team that other players feared. Now, we are bringing the wood, and we can call Eric Berry the head lumberjack. Dj seems like he is trying to hurt someone on just about every tackle now. Bowe has decided to get serious and is helping out with the blocking game. They look like winners on the field.
#2 2 of the 3 facets of the game. Defense and special teams have been great for us. Our offense hasn't been great over the last 3 years, but it has been better than the Defense and special teams for a while. I remember when we had a different kicker every week. I remember when we had no clear cut return man. Our special teams units are great on kick coverage, and they usually get us good field position. Now we have to decide who to let return because they are both so good.
And the D? Our D used to be the hardest thing for me to watch since I became a Chiefs fan. I went back and watched some games from the last few years and we used to get pushed back 2-3 yards on many of our plays. Look ant them now, and were either collapsing the pocket, or we aren't moving, and it is making a huge difference. Belcher and Dj have come on like I knew they could. And the best thing about the D to me is our tackling. I want to give a shout to who I believe is the solidest tackler we have....Brandon Flowers. He has made some great one on one tackles in our 2 games. We aren't making a whole lot of mistakes with the exception of our rookie safety. Speaking of Berry........
#3 This is going to sound crazy, but I am happy that Berry is getting burned. He is a rookie, and a very smart player. He was going to bet burned at some point anyway. I love that it is early on. He is going to be a much better player for us when we make our playoff run. He is a fast learner, and I don't anticipate him making too many of the same mistakes over and over again. He is already excellent in run support and is a great tackler. Besides, who hasn't gotten burned by Antonio Gates?
#4 The 2 headed running attack. I know that many people are up in arms about Charles not getting snaps 10 to 1, but I personally love what they are doing with the running game. Thomas Jones is one of the best backs in the league. He possible has the best work ethic of any back in the league. He is in great shape and knows how to take care of his body. He is NO Larry Johnson (who was just released by the way). There is a lot that Charles can learn from Jones.
Also, It is really hard for a team to have to adjust from a TJ style player to a Charles type player. That is why his avg is so high with a low amount of carries. Don't worry, Charles will get his touches. Just like last year, he will be fresh when we need him most. We all know he is our most talented back.
#5 Our Coaching. Let's start with Weis. I know our offense blows right now, but I trust Weis just like I trusted Romeo. He is one of the best. Our head coach wasn't a bad offensive mind either. Now don't get me wrong, I am as afraid of Cassel as anyone else right now, but I have to believe that Weis can "fix" him. On the positive side, we are 2-0 with a horrible offense. After the offense starts coming together, and it will come together, we will be even better.
And let's not forget, the offenses job is to score, not to accumulate yards. I say that because we are pretty solid in the red zone. But we absolutely need to get better.
Romeo is the poster boy for good coaching. He took the same players that many of us thought would not amount to anything and turned them into a very solid unit that should only get better. The D is exciting to watch, is probably our strongest unit. Who woulda thunk it?
All of our coaches seem to be doing a great job. Weis is coming, just give him time.
I love what's happening in KC right now. We're winning the games that we normally would have found a way to lose. What's going to happen once we're firing on all cylinders.Great time to be a Chiefs Fan.
