49ers-Chiefs: Ask Niners Nation
Hey everybody, this is Fooch from Niners Nation. Now that the 49ers sufficiently gutted me last night, it's time to start looking ahead to the 49ers week three showdown with your Kansas City Chiefs. While I hate losing, last night provided quite a few positives for the 49ers and showed a team that is obviously much better than the one that laid an egg week one against the Seahawks.
I'm going to be answering some of Joel's questions, but in the meantime I wanted to open a FanPost for you guys to post your questions. Your man tomahawk44 posted an Ask Arrowhead FanPost at Niners Nation and I felt it was only right to reciprocate. I'll be posting a link to this over at NN as well so we can get some of 49ers fans over here. I'll answer your questions, but I think having other 49ers fans answering questions can be just as helpful.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

Thanks Fooch
I went ahead and REC’d this for you to keep it up top, as our weekly posts from our opponents usually do pretty well.
I had a question about how you feel about Michael Crabtree thus far in this young season? How has his route running been? Blocking? What WR can you compare him to style/play wise?
Thanks for your time and effort on this, and good luck this week against the 2-0 Chiefs :-)
"That was a good job. It wasn't pretty and we made it tougher than it had to be but that's alright. That's alright this time." - Todd Haley
Win pretty, win ugly, win easy, win tough, it doesn't matter
Crabtree
Crabtree has had a very up and down season, with more downs than ups. He’s got 3 catches for 44 yards, although one of his catches last night was big on a touchdown drive. Given how he came in last season I’d imagine he’s been a bit disappointing thus far in particular because he’s struggled with some of his routes at times. Last night he did make a great block on a Vernon Davis catch (or might have been Josh Morgan). I think it’s just the ups and downs of being a young player in the NFL. He’ll break back out at some point this season.

The story is
that last year they asked Crabs to learn just a few plays (probably more than a few, but you get the idea) and once he had them down and honed them, he looked good. Teams had no tape on him in the NFL and our offense was evolving too (from power-running team to spread looks and back again) not to mention the opponents weren’t the strongest at times down the stretch.
This year he’s got to not only learn all the plays at Split End but also at Slot and Flanker as they want him to move around a lot. He’s seemingly not put in the work in the playbook (or is struggling to learn it all if he has) and it’s shown. The kid has raw talent out the wazoo. He’s physical, athletic, has great hands and runs great routes when he knows what route to run! It’s a chemistry and playbook thing at this point but I expect him to start to shine around the bye week, making a handful of catches per game by then.
I will be at the Atlanta game 10/3/10 so holla if you are going.

Wasn't his supposed difficulty in learning the playbook one of the caveats scouts gave against drafting him?

What did you think of Alex Smiths performance last night?
Chiefs Will
I was actually impressed
I was looking for a QB in my fantasy league and picked him up after last night. Those 3 interceptions killed him, But His throws looked good and he showed his mobility well.
Smile, its the second best things you can do with your lips!
QB
Well, the actual end of game drive was certainly awesome. The first interception was his fault as I think he threw it too high to Gore. The wind was tough on passes, but I think he handled things well and was pretty solid. He’s always been solid at scrambling, but I think he actually needs the solid o-line play to be strong when scrambling (as opposed to running backwards and out of bounds).

Expectations
All of the hype and speculation about the San Francisco 49’ers has been that they will contend this year, and it seems like people by and large bought into that thinking. How is the city and fan base reacting to the slow start? Has their been any talk of getting rid of Alex Smith/Singletary?
I won’t lie. I’m licking my chops about to see our secondary against Smith.
Thanks.

Slow start
There’s been talk of getting rid of Alex Smith since I started Niners Nation in December 2006. Some folks have been getting angry with Singletary lately because of some bone-headed decisions and apparent communication issues.
I think last night bought both Smith and Singletary some time, but if the team struggles going forward, the hot seat would certainly be there. I actually think this weekend’s game with you guys is as important as yesterday’s was with the Saints. Smith needs to show consistency and the team needs to be able to handle a noisy road atmosphere (which they didn’t in Seattle).
by David Fucillo on Sep 21, 2010 3:35 PM CDT up reply actions
the casual fans
who don’t study the team inside and out….yeah they figure it’s all Singletary or Smith’s fault. Smith wasn’t great at all in Seattle but that game was just plain bad on all fronts. I think the team is so young they weren’t ready even if they thought they were. Sure maybe they bought into the hype a little too…
Smith is a funny individual in that he has to be comfortable or he panics. Not saying he can’t perform with guys in his face, but it can’t be immediate pressure on every single play, calls not coming in, penalties, when the game get’s out of hand he struggles. You just have to manage that. Not every guy is good in every situation. This is what we got, we can make it work, let’s go.
We all know Singletary isn’t an X’s and O’s coach or even a game manager. He’s a motivator, disciplinarian, visionary…those are his strengths. Again, you don’t wish he was something else, you just try and make sure there are people to support him and his shortcomings. The guys believe in him though and that’s huge.
I will be at the Atlanta game 10/3/10 so holla if you are going.
Nitwitter
So.... Lemme ask you this....
So if Alex Smith struggles under pressure, how is he going to be able to handle 70,000+ fans in a sold out Arrowhead? Our crowd noise threw the timing and play of one of the best QB’s in the league (Phyllis Rivers) off.
How is Alex Smith going to handle this?
Is JC Jesus Christ or Jamaal Charles? I think they both will be our savior.
by 25JCPavedTheWay on Sep 22, 2010 12:04 AM CDT up reply actions
what I'm saying is
that the rest of his supporting cast need to hold it together too. Alex can’t pull the entire team together when they’re all flailing. It’s on the O-Line to have the silent count down and not jump. It’s up to the receivers to run the right routes and help Alex out with tough catches at times…the whole team can’t implode around him is what I’m saying.
I will be at the Atlanta game 10/3/10 so holla if you are going.

Question 1: A – The 49ers rush defense is very solid. B is a possibility, but I just think the 49ers will lock it down.
Question 2: I’m gonna go with E, none of the above. I suppose someone could intercept him but I’ll say no interceptions on Sunday.
Question 3: I honestly don’t know enough about your pass rush at this point. I’d love to hear more about those four guys.
Question 4: 2 false starts, 1 timeout.

I disagree
You won’t hold us to 100 yards IF we run charles, he is a beast and patrick willis isn’t fast enough to stop him. Your offense is not very good with the bust, Alex Smith and Frank Gore isn’t a top back in the league. Jamaal got almost as many yards as him in HALF a season. I think you will be watching a chiefs win on Sunday. Smith is gonna get intercepted, he’s not a good, consistent quarterback. Our offense is better and our defense can hold up in my opinion. There will be too much confusion for you guys, you heard the noise in the chargers game. Our secondary is good, our defense is good too.
Ummm....
ok? Seeing as you guys are running a platoon between Jones and Charles, I think the 49ers defense will take its chances with that.
by David Fucillo on Sep 21, 2010 10:37 PM CDT up reply actions
Thats why i said charles
If we run him, i THINK we can get over 100 yards. I think cassel will be the same as always, and we will win how we won the first two games, by running the ball. Btw you can’t win a football game if you don’t score points, and if you watched any of the chiefs games, our defense was solid in both weeks. While yours allowed 31 on THE SEAHAWKS, we beat the chargers on monday night football, only allowing 14 points. The 9ers offense just isnt that good. Alex Smith is still inconsistent, Matt Cassel got better as the game went on. I’m not saying it’s a guaranteed win, i just said i THINK that we will win. They played well against the saints, but i don’t think i would be happy about a loss though.

If I were you
I would reconsider. Our D was handicapped in Seattle and one of the TDs was a pick-6, a few others were extremely short fields. Offensively we ARE good, but it will be huge as to how we start. Did you see us driving the length of the field against New Orleans many times Monday night? The weapons are all there. YOU guys the fans will be HUGE in how this game plays out. If the noise gets to the Niners we could be toast.

Slow down chiefsman. Frank Gore is scary and our leaders haven’t proven they know how to pick the right personall to win a game yet(DJ last year and Jamaal this year). Frank Gore has consistently been a top back in the league
4 straight 1000 yard seasons? One of the top receiving RB’s in the league, one of the best at blitz pickup/protection…dude, ask around (non Chiefs homers) and it’s a resounding “YES” to Gore being a top back.
He might not be top 5 but he’s easily top 10-15.

yes…but a lot of backs have done the 1000 yard thing. charles is a good receiving RB too. hes probably the 9th or 10th back in the league. he doesnt make that many big plays
Gore
is a bruising, relentless runner, has extremely good hands and is great at picking up the blitz. Truly a well rounded RB. He’s our main cog.

Of course if Charles is running full speed Willis probably won’t catch him directly from behind, but don’t be surprised when you see Willis taking the perfect angles from the middle of the field to cut off Charles.

what's his 40 time?
Patrick Willis has run a 4.37 before.
Some people think outside the box. Some people think inside the box. Me? I got kicked out of the box, and they won't let me back in.
Willis's at the combine- 4.49
Charles was 4.36. Supposedly he’s been clocked by hand at 4.1 (which is always faster than when clocked by machine, which would explain the faster time for both players).
I think this is a stupid argument, to be honest. It’s an adult version of “my Dad can beat up your Dad”. JC was an All-American as a sprinter. He’s faster than Willis.
However, as has been pointed out, Willis is a superb defender who takes great angles, and he is very, very fast for a LB. Taking correct angles is more important than speed as a LB.
I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.
yup
charles is faster than willis, he’s a LB, but even HE can’t stop jamaal charles on every play, you guys can argue that willis will catch him, but you will see that in the game if he passes willis, IF he passes him and i think he will, you won’t see willis tackling him. Why don’t we find out in the game
but you don't understand...
Patrick Willis’ dad could so beat up Jamaal Charles’ dad.

what lost the Hawks game
O-Line and….I dunno. Alex wasn’t great but he didn’t have much time to throw, had Crabtree lining up in the wrong places and running the wrong routes, and the plays were coming in late…so I would have to say he definitely screwed the pooch.
Special teams allowed some yards and could have been better. The secondary bit on some plays but they were put in bad situations from turnovers too…

The reason I ask is because our RG and RT situation is in transition.. Lilja (he was with the Colts last year) has been a decent starter and O’Callaghan (NE two years ago started most of last year) should be returning from an injury that’s kept him out all season.
A solid performance from Sopoaga (cos there’s no way in hell we run it at Justin Smith) could mean a long day for our offense. Lilja is money on the second level on running plays if O’Callaghan can handle Sopoaga..
Not that you were interested in hearing any of that.. But thanks!

Whatever Romeo is doing seems to be working. We haven’t faced a high profile offense yet in good weather, but the 49ers are hardly that. I would expect 17-21 pts scored on the Chiefs D. Then it’s just a matter of whether or not the Chiefs can score which is a huge question mark.

Berry v. Davis
Berry had a heck of an assignment in week 1 vs. Gates. Chiefs fans see that the one area where he will need to improve on is in pass coverage. Lot of us believe he has the drive and potential to become an elite Safety in the NFL.
My best guess will that he will be assigned to covering Davis and support the run.
If this is the case, what are you thinking Davis does statistically and do you think he will find the end zone if Berry is assigned to him?
Also, what about the Chiefs young secondary scares you the most if at all?
"The greater the struggle, the more glorious the triumph"
Eric Berry counted to infinity -- twice.
no one can cover VD
not in single coverage…it would take a 250lb. CB who can run a 4.4. He’s a freak, like, it’s not right that he’s that big and yet that fast.
Bracketing him or playing zone is your best bet.

the Chiefs D against Gates doubled him a lot and hit him hard off the line.
I expect VD will have the same type of treatment off the line. He will get hit hard every play right off the line. Not saying he won’t burn us, but trust me, he isn’t going to be in single coverage much if at all.
Also, can Smith get him the ball?
Smith has his moments where he throws a beautiful ball down field and reads coverages like a QB should. The sad part comes two plays later when he makes a huge mistake and looks like he doesn’t deserve to be on the field.

before VD had his breakout season as a receiving TE
there was serious talk about moving him to RT and solving our problems there.
if [Eric Berry] can stay close to davis and pick it off vernon davis won’t be catching him
Vernon ran a 4.38 at the combine. i just looked it up and Berry ran between a 4.39 and a 4.42. so it’s not inconceivable to think that Vernon Davis might catch him.

It doesn't matter what they ran at the combine...

um...
people who are faster at the combine are usually faster in the game.
Chris Johnson will back me up on this.
We don't need 8 in the box. We have 52 in the box.
If we don't want berry covering him...
we just play DJ and he is a great cover linebacker, 2 ints in week 17, plus he’s fast because both ints were pick 6s
Or send Belcher to jam him at the line.
Could be fun to watch those two shove around at the line.

What's the general feeling about Singletary as the HC?
Seems like the 49ers are a deep and talented team, outside of maybe the QB. Is Mike taking some heat from the fans for the team “underperforming”?
Predictions:
This year will be better
Mike Singletary could coach my team any day of the week.
However I’d leave the clock management up to someone else. I’ve only watched 2 or 3 games he’s coached and it seemed like he always screwed that up.
by craig in calgary on Sep 21, 2010 3:33 PM CDT up reply actions
Singletary is a great leader and motivator
but he is inexperienced as a coach and it shows. he had never been a coach or even a coordinator at any level of football before he got this job, he was just our linebackers coach.
if he shows improvement at things like clock management, then he could be a Super Bowl-caliber HC. but if he continues to struggle with some of the basics of coaching, even as he becomes more experienced, then he could be on the hot seat as early as next year.

Patrick Willis is tempting...
…but pass.
I want MORE draft picks not less. I REALLY like how Scott Pioli and Co. have drafted (even in 2009 draft) so far and what to see what else they bring in and coach up.
Signs of a geart “TEAM”…
…“Star” players who play self-less-ly:
I would point to J. Charles and how he has responed to (staying ‘positive’ and making playes each time he does get to touch the ball) coming in to rest T. Jones instead of the other way arond.
Players like D-Bowe bocking like a FB to spring Charles for his touchdown run was a ‘Team" first move. Very few WR’s are able, and even fewer WILLING to block for the running game.
Pop Quiz: What other team has a WR has who has showed time and again that he is able and WILLING to block for the running game (Hint: They are also a 2-0 team.)
I was being a smart ass.

Strategy question
In our week one game vs SD our defensiive strategy was stop the run and double team the TE and take our chances with their WRs being one on one with our CBs. I can see the Chiefs having a similar strategy this week vs SF. IF (and that’s a big if) the Chiefs can contain your run game and double team Davis, do you trust Smith and your WRs to put points on the board?
"There is no charge for awesomeness" - Kung Fu Panda
yes
but not much for big plays. Delanie Walker is just as fast as Davis and runs good routes too (he’s a TE too) and they’re both on the field at the same time in ACE formation. Morgan is a good possession receiver, Crabtree can be good at times, and Zeigler is tall and also likes catches in traffic. They all have great hands too.
I think Alex would find a way to methodically move the chains even if you stop the run and Davis…I hope!
I will be at the Atlanta game 10/3/10 so holla if you are going.
Nitwitter
I'll give you Walker (dont know who he is)
for the same reason I think Gore is going to have a great day catching the ball out of the back field: because I don’t think the Chiefs LBs are athletic enough and I don’t think Lewis (rookie safety opposite Berry) is big enough to effectively defend either one of them. I’d look for both to have big days this Sunday.
With regards to Smith and SF receivers vs KC dbs.. I have to say advantage KC. I’m not saying we have an entire secondary of lockdown DBs, but they really match up well and if Smith decides to test them, don’t be surprised if it doesn’t go the other way for six.
yeah, that's why we run 12 personnel a lot
2 TE’s who run like WR’s, and two WR’s who are tough, gritty possession guys. It’s been a good mix for us thus far. Play coverage and we’ll run or our TE’s will be too physical for a DB. Drop into the box and now you’ve got LB’s or Safeties on a TE who runs about a 4.4…
Of course, as you noted…Smith is the one that has to get it to them…
I will be at the Atlanta game 10/3/10 so holla if you are going.
Nitwitter
They show flashes of being able to get it done, but that would probably be the best strategy for stopping us.

How much do you think the short prep week will be a factor?
We just got done dealing with this ourselves, and I think it made a big difference. We should have had an easier time with the Browns.
As a follow-up, do you think losing last night will make the 9ers play better or worse on Sunday? I think the Chiefs would have had better chances if the 9ers won, because we might surprise them off an emotional high. As is, they’re coming in hungry and angry.
Your team looked great, other than tipped ball turnovers. Take out a few of those and you had that game. I see this team as one of the elite in the near future. Kudos for drafting 2 O-linemen in the first round.

short prep week
That’s a good question because there was a lot of talk about the Saints having 3 extra days to prep for the 49ers, but that didn’t seem to give them an edge. The 49ers aren’t too decimated with injuries so I don’t think it’s all that big a problem.

Looked good last night
I have no question for the 49ers folks but did want to say that besides the few silly mental boggles ( the snap, the punk return drop, etc) the 49ers looked pretty good last night. If you guys can keep up those good parts, less the brain farts, you should have a nice season. Good luck…..after the KC game of course..
we are optimistic.
those two mistakes were both by backups.
the snap was by our backup center who practiced mostly at guard until a few weeks ago. the muffed punt was by a rookie 7th rounder who was supposed to be our third-string punt returner (behind Ted Ginn and Kyle Williams, who i think might be back for this game).
so really it was short-term injuries that cost us that game as much as anything.

Smith/Singletary
It was confidence inspiring, but really for the 49ers they need to see consistent production before they can declare some kind of long term answer at QB. As a 49ers fan I want to see a strong outing from Smith this Sunday. As for Singletary, he’s still learning what it takes to be an NFL coach and has to work on his game management skills. And this Sunday at Arrowhead is a great test for that.
As for Maragos, he’s on the practice squad so he won’t be playing anytime soon. If he were signed off the practice squad I’d imagine it would be primarily for special teams work.

Chris Maragos
his best shot is next year, when both of our starting safeties will be free agents.
one of them (Michael Lewis) will almost for sure not be re-signed. his contract was recently reworked so this is his last year.
our other starting safety, Dashon Goldson, is coming to the end of his rookie contract and wants to be paid like a top-5 safety, even though he isn’t one. if he can find just one team that will overpay for his potential, then he’s gone.
at that point, Chris Maragos could be very much in the mix for a roster spot and could have a chance at some playing time.
Some people think outside the box. Some people think inside the box. Me? I got kicked out of the box, and they won't let me back in.

I thought he should have been drafted, but I’m glad to see he caught on with you guys. He had some sweet INTs in his career at Wisconsin, and took a leadership role that had been…absent in the secondary. Maragos can spring out of nowhere to grab the ball in front of a defender.

The 49ers will likely avoid Berry like the plague and try putting Vernon Davis in favorable matchups with Hali and DJ. I mean, why risk it?

At this point
I’d rather see DJ on Davis than Berry.
DJ’s a very good cover LB, and Berry’s struggled at times against the pass.
I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.
I think
the 49ers will likely do a good job putting Vernon Davis in the right place to do harm to the defense. But then Romeo will put Flowers/Berry in the right place to do damage to Alex Smith (picks, deflected passes, that sort of thing). As is, Romeo HAS to account for Vernon Davis’s location on every snap.

he was all we had last year at WR
well, he was the best WR we had as soon as he stepped on the field. So they gave him a handful of plays to learn and threw him out there, and he did well with that workload. This year they’ve asked him to learn all 3 WR positions and the entire playbook…it’s been exponentially more than he was asked last year. Then he missed all of preseason with the neck (or did he just not want to play the preseason? Nobody knows).
So he’s been slow to come along this season. I think he’ll start getting it around the bye week.

About the work ethic, interestingly enough Vernon Davis got up in his face a few days before the start of the season and apparently confronted him about not working hard enough. It went on for 20 minutes until Singletary took them into the locker room. None of the parties involved would really say what they were arguing about, but the speculation is VD didn’t think he was working hard enough.

Pass D: Nobody is real fast or a shutdown CB…they’re all solid, lunch pail guys. Our safeties are not awesome, one is smart, one is athletic…neither is a lot of both.
DL, LB’s are great, best unit on the team easily.
Justin Smith, Patrick Willis, Aubrayo Franklin wont make a lot of stat-sheet plays but will clog up running lanes at NT.
Delanie Walker is a big part of the offense as is the quiet but productive Josh Morgan (who has 9 recs for 102 yards in 2 games as a #2 WR). Also, you forgot GORE!

i wish i could rec your username.
How is your pass defense…?
good pass rush (tied for third in NFL in sacks last year) without any real studs (maybe Ahmad Brooks, we will see). our secondary has it’s weaknesses, specifically Michael Lewis (starting SS).
your run defense is your strength correct?
yes. probably the best unit on the team.
How is your D line, linebackers, secondary?
D line = good; linebackers = good; secondary = needs more young talent
Who are the studs on Defense that we need to know about and look for?
Patrick Willis mostly, but you don’t need to look for him. he will find you. Justin Smith (RDE) and Ahmad Brooks (OLB) can also be studs at times, and Dashon Goldson (FS) makes some good plays.
Besides Smith, Crabtree, and Davis who else is a big part of the offense?
Josh Morgan had 6 catches for 70 yards last week, including many key first downs. he was quietly one of the 49ers heroes of the game.
Is the O-line good? Weak spot?
played incredibly well on monday, allowing no sacks and getting planty of push in the run game. they still need to prove they can play as well on the road.

We all have the right to our own opinions, its just that mine are right.
I would try to get the DB's in single man coverage
however you can. Try to keep our safeties from getting deep and you can have your way. You can dink and dunk underneath all you want for the most part too. Runs to the outside can be a problem for us (Haralson…) at times too.

Dear 49'ers
You are the most talented team on the planet. You will easily have your way with the hapless Chiefs. The league is actually considering foregoing this season and just handing you the Vince Lombardi trophy after you solidly spank the Chiefs like they took the last cookie from the jar.
(hope this works)
Chiefs - back in the playoffs in 2011.
I'm a 49ers fan...
But I still love my chiefs more. I owned a 49ers starter jacket when I was in grade/middle school. Joe Montana was my favorite player to watch and when we got him in KC I was absolutely floored with happiness.
With that said I will have to root against the 49ers in this game but will always root for the 49ers when they aren’t playing my Chiefs.
Even at 0-2 the 49ers scare me. Watching that game against the Saints I can honestly say the Chiefs are going to have to play their absolute best to win this game. The strength of our team is running and the strength of the 49ers is run defense. I honestly don’t see us putting up more than 75 yards rushing the entire game. This game will come down to turnovers. As we saw last week the Chiefs and 49ers can both cause multiple turnovers per game. Whoever can hold onto the ball the best will prevail here.
Being that our run game will be tested I also believe Matt Cassel needs to step it up big time this game. If he can get the ball downfield with the pass rather than dumping it off or handing it off we have a much better chance at a W. But from what I’ve seen so far out of him this year I’m very concerned that he won’t be able to do it. Prove me wrong Cassel, please prove me wrong.
I, like you am also a 49er fan 2nd to my Chiefs
I live in the bay area and that’s the team I root for usually after the 10 am games are over since we usually play at 10/12 central time. Cassel’s going to have to pass the ball efficiently this game in order for us to win. We’ll need some real creative play calling but nothing foolish. This defense is beast and I think if we can get good pressure and sack alex early we might have an edge on him from playing like he did last week, cuz if he plays like that, we’ll probably lose.

Is Taylor Mays getting an PT?
I really wanted to see him in KC.
Politics aside, Obama would of better been served, buying 5 "new" football teams.
Just special teams I think

Also got to say...
As good as our draft looks, I’m envious of yours. Love the Lutapi, Davis tag team. You guys have a very likeable team out west, too bad you’ll have to compete with Pete now.

it's Iupati, not Lupati.
it took us several weeks to get that cleared up on our own blog.
Some people think outside the box. Some people think inside the box. Me? I got kicked out of the box, and they won't let me back in.
Santa Clara 49ers?!?
Doesnt quite have the same ring….
I'd rather be a free man in my grave than living as a puppet or a slave
Wow, I was literally posting the same exact question
Also, is there still a plan to share a new stadium with the Raiders? They must realize that Oakland fans will trash the place.
Predictions:
This year will be better
Raiders?
NEVER! It’s in the language that the team “could” share the stadium but I’m hoping the Raiders wouldn’t want to drive all the way across the bridge to SC. Plus we’ll likely have a huge fee and clauses to Raiders for cleaning up after their filthy fans too…
I will be at the Atlanta game 10/3/10 so holla if you are going.
Nitwitter
to clarify
if it was the only way to get the stadium done…they’d probably do it. It’s a last resort though.

i get the ominous feeling
that the raiders might end up included to get it financed.

They're still keeping the name San Francisco
Just like other teams like New York Jets/Giants, who are located in New Jersey. Or Dallas Cowboys who are located in Arlington.

yeah, but
some senator from SF wants to sue the team to stop them from calling themselves the “San Francisco 49ers” if they leave town.
the team actually changed their website from sf49ers.com to just 49ers.com, just in case.

We still get to keep our superbowl wins right?
and its not the 49ers fault that SF won’t give them a new stadium
Which player on our team (offense or defense) do you fear the most and why? Can be more than one player.
Which player do you fear the least and why?
Fears
I fear Cassel the most because I don’t think he’ll give our D good enough looks to get them ready for when we have to face a real QB in Atlanta the week after.
I fear Charles the least because your coaches will keep him on the bench while we let Willis and Spikes hammer Jones all day for 2-3 yard losses.

Spikes is out.
Bowman likely starting.

Charles will get the bulk of the carries this week
The coaches have been very clear that the featured back is going to be the one who’s best suited to exploit the weaknesses of the opposing D. You can expect to see Charles carry 18-25 times.
Predictions:
This year will be better
Definitely fear Charles/McCluster combo the most. Our one trouble with stopping the run is quick backs. If Charles can get around the outside of the OLB’s we’re going to have trouble, not to mention screens and passes to either of those two.
I probably fear Thomas Jones/Cassel the least. Jones running between the tackles won’t accomplish anything, and Cassel sounds pretty bad, even against our weaker secondary.

I think the initial candidate was our QB’s coach (the guy who relays the play from Jimmy Raye our OC). I think that is all over now though.

Common Sense is the rat.
Common Sense told the media that Jimmy Raye isn’t a good Offensive Coordinator.

KC Fans could have told you that Raye isn't a good OC a long time ago!
