Chiefs Get Little Love From ESPN On Their 2010 NFL Season Predictions
The Kansas City Chiefs are a team that some people -- including ESPN the Magazine -- thinks has a shot at winning the AFC West.
ESPN's panel of 16 experts would disagree.
ESPN has released their 2010 season predictions and every single one picks the San Diego Chargers to win the AFC West.
You can't blame them though. If I was putting money on it, I'd pick the Chargers, too.
They also released their picks for offensive and defensive rookies of the year.
I thought Dexter McCluster might pop up on one of the offensive ROTY picks but he's not. Chargers RB Ryan Mathews is a popular pick here.
On the defensive side of the ball, two experts picked Eric Berry to win be the rookie of the year: Matthew Berry and Bill Williamson. Ndamukong Suh, Rolando McClain and Brandon Graham are popular picks there.
Stagdsp passes along more ESPN predictions here. The consensus is third place with worst/best case scenarios ranging from 5-9 wins.

Brandon Graham has looked really good.
But so has Berry…. :)
God typed "iddqd" before creating Jason Heyward.
better a little love than none at all?
ah well … if we EARN them, we’ll get all the kudos we deserve, if not … well, let’s stay positive

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
Fewer than 6 wins and we should be mad as hell. But we should be thanking Jah above for anything over 7 wins.
Mathews gets the nod for ROY simply because he’ll get the touches and has the supporting cast. Doubt Berry gets the nod for ROY, Byrd had 9 freaking INT’s and still lost out to an SC roid rager. Ducks just can’t get any love.
Politics aside, Obama would of better been served, buying 5 "new" football teams.
defensive ROY
almost always seems to go to a LB.
I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.
That was pretty much what I was going to say...
So you can knock off Suh and Berry. Graham and McClain would be the 2 that I would guess to win it. Rolando most likely ending up with more tackles… I would crown DROY.
Go Chiefs!!!!
So Rolando McClain will probably walk away with it...
I haven’t heard that much about Suh this offseason except for his holdout situation and rumors of demanding a retardulous salary…. oh yeah, and him trying to tear Jake Delhomme’s head off. I have no doubt he will be good, maybe even a pro-bowl bound rookie. Jim Schwartz will use him well and he will make Detroit better.
There is a pretty good comparo between Suh and Berry at bleacherreport.com. It’s only a few days old and I think it’s solid.
If Berry plays well enough to win DPOY, that should mean the Chiefs have had a pretty solid season – say at least 8-8 or 9-7. I’ll take both of those.

Wow they are a bit optimistic up there in Detroit...
65 tackles
8.5 sacks
six tackles for a loss
seven pass deflections
four forced fumbles
one interception (really an interception)
All from a rookie DT…
As for projected stats for Berry… I’d say that they are probably on target. I would guess Berry to have a few more tackles somewhere around 85
Go Chiefs!!!!
Maybe they figure he'll be on the field a lot?
He is pretty vicious, but they may be over-blowing it a bit.. especially as a rookie. I guess anything’s possible… it’s just projection at this point.
We’ll see who looks the best after the first few weeks. Maybe we’ll have some surprises in there?
by Ochophosphate on Sep 2, 2010 5:22 PM CDT up reply actions
The tackles and and interception are prolly about right but the sacks and forced fumbles are to high.
The pass deflections are way too low. Suh gets his hands up in a hurry.
So you got the fax. So why didn't you add it to the resume? What do you mean? Of course martial arts training is relevant.
Every year,
there are 3-4 teams that were expected to contend that kinda fall off, and every year, there are 3-4 teams that weren’t expected to contend that suddenly arrive.
The teams that approach slowly, getting a little better each year, just wind up being disappointments.
Which team are we? I think we’re really, really close. Closer than it looks.

ESPN prediction regarding the Chiefs
Brett Favre may or may not watch a Chiefs game this year. Undecided.

The non cogitative prognositators
from ESPN do not bother me. The average fan on Arrowhead Pride is more knowledgeable concerning the Chiefs than anybody on ESPN. Maybe they should stare into a crystal ball or try to develop their E.S.P………………….hehehehehehehehhe.
"The Hammer"
I doubt the average AP reader is as objective though
Politics aside, Obama would of better been served, buying 5 "new" football teams.
I wouldn't call ESPN objective either.
They have their favorites. Always have. Always will.
Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.
They just need more of this

And everything will be Soooooooo Good for them! Why do they resist?

Am I so wrong to...
think I am just as much an expert as all these people? They have they same amount of time to study all 32 teams as I do. Sure, they get to talk to special people and see events live but that doesn’t mean they know more about the Chiefs than I do. I don’t put much weight on predictions and rarely make my own but I would put money on the fact that most of these guys just looked at what another one of these guys was doing and made most of their “decisions”.
TRAITOR!!!!
You can’t blame them though. If I was putting money on it, I’d pick the Chargers, too.
GET HIM!!!

Chargers are favored by many experts to win the Super Bowl every year.
…and every year they fail. A.J. Smith is Carl Peterson II. Rode in town on Marty Schottenheimer’s back, and will eventually be run out of town when he never produces.
by jbj8609 on Sep 2, 2010 2:16 PM CDT reply actions 1 recs
They should have stuck with Marty. He wins 13 games and gets fired.

not sure what makes an expert... an expert...especially in predicting these outcomes..
Is there any indication on how ESPN did the previous year in their predictions… percentage wise?
If the Chiefs win several games initially, then a lot of “experts” will start changing their minds, but still talk like they are experts.
Truth is… we/they don’t know…that is what makes this fun.
You mentioned money…where is the money being placed? What are the Vegas odds for the Chiefs to go to the Super Bowl? Win the Division? Anyone know?
Desertchief
Well, if the Sportswriter doing the "guessing" (and that's all it is, is a big guess", was
from the Kansas City area, (like Joel and Chris), I might put a little more stock into what they have to say.
Don’t forget, these guys are just fans from other NFL cities, with a pen, and a pulpit.

I'd say 3rd place as well
Less than 4 wins – Fire Pioli and Haley and start over
4-6 wins – Fire Haley and get hire Leslie Frazier
6-9 wins – Probably progression of this yeam
9+ wins – I take everything I said about Pioli back. Maybe he does know what the hell he is doing.
by craig in calgary on Sep 2, 2010 2:22 PM CDT reply actions
...and 10+ wins
I suck at the internet.

Fire Haley for a 6 win season?
Congratulations craig you are now Al Davis.
And hire Leslie Frazier? He runs a 4-3 defense up there in Minnesota doesn’t he. Maybe he’d bring Jared Allen back with him, because we sure as hit don’t have many people left who can play the 4-3. We’ll get Pioli right on that.
How well do Derek Johnson and Glenn Dorsey play under their 3rd scheme and head coach?
reads angrier than I meant it.
Continuity is important for any team. If we only win six games I’m looking at drafting Ryan Mallet or Jake Locker.
why Mallet or Locker?
Locker looks amazing but I’d take Case Keenum or Andrew Luck…

McCluster
Little Dexter wont be talked about until week 8. For now he is all ours and hes on my fantasy team.ssshhh don’t let the secret out.
Someone on ESPN Radio...
…said yesterday that the word in KC is that Berry is already a bust. Obviously, that’s absurd, but I blame it more on someone trying to cover 32 teams, rather than ESPN in particular. The Chiefs are probably not given a lot of thought by the national press in general, given that their coverage is spread thin.
The word in KC
Is that a bronze bust is being crafted for Berry’s place in the hall of fame.

awesome
"They should expect everything..." -Eric Berry
My guess...
…is that this guy heard that about T-Jax or even Dorsey (he actually didn’t call Berry by name, but simply said the Chiefs #1 pick), and his ignorance of the Chiefs didn’t allow him to extrapolate the difference.
umm
they lost they Mind lol…O.K. but say what you want…& Hate on… BERRY is the Truth… str8 up & his Partner is 2 Kendrick…Get ReaL…
yeah...its where they refer to the Chiefs as, "in other news of the weird..."
Winning begins with Attitude - Haley and Pioli will be winners in KC!
I'll forever be a Chiefs fan! Only God himself could take that away from me, but when I get to my great reward, I'll rejoin two bigger fans, my Mom and Dad.
I don't know if you guys agree
But seriously I think that this year if the Chiefs win anything less than 7 games I will be sorely disappointed. It’s not just because of the Haley Pioli regime, but also the weak Chiefs Schedule and the amount of money we have put into players for the past 3 years (esp Cassel)
yeah, 7 is the minimum expectation for me
there is enough talent and coaching, and they should be much more comfortable in the system than last season.
this should be the most exciting Chiefs team in years! Most major needs filled with playmakers, and the league's best coaching staff... 10-6 a possibility?
The amount of money we've put into players?
You do realize that we have the lowest team payroll in the NFL?
Chiefs - back in the playoffs in 2011.
I think that our payroll has balloned up... and we are the 2nd lowest team payroll.
I believe I recently saw TB as the lowest payroll. Yet the reason our payroll is balloning up is because of the top 5 picks the past couple years, and us actually paying a QB… starting QB money.
Go Chiefs!!!!
Don't forget,
this will totally play into the “Cinderella Chiefs Team and the fans with the heart of gold” meme that ESPN will love when they don’t have anything else to say in January.

Did you see the other article rating QB's chances for "elite" status.
They gave our Boy Cassel a 0 percent chance. As Dan Gable once said, “When you win, say nothing….”

yeah and they gave matt moore qb for carolina who was ranked worse than cassel a 5%
when clausen gets his job maybe we can get him…..jk
0 percent chance???
i guess its all about the deep ball, i guess “Jamarcus Hussell” is a shoe in, i guess they’re the same people who said Ryan Leaf was a potential Hall of Famer
Personally, i think the raiders are going to be one of the most overrated teams in nfl history
All of these analysts have them 2nd or winning the afc west, or taking a wild card. They can’t move the ball, they still have a garbage rushing defense, cant run cant pass they will be lucky to win 7. No receivers outside of zack miller and thats not enough with the sorry OL they have
