Motown DJ
I'm just gonna throw this out there: It's time for the Chiefs to trade Derrick Johnson (and I know the team that we should trade him to).
Let's face it guys: DJ has never lived up to expectations while rockin' the red and he probably never will. Don't get me wrong: I don't think he's a bad player. He's extremely athletic and his performance against Denver at the end of last year was awesome. But unfortunately, that's something we haven't seen him do much as a Chief. He has All-Star talent (see Denver game from last year). But he's also very inconsistent (see countless other games). Despite his penchant for underachieving, I can still see him as trade bait. And I know the perfect team to trade him to: the Detroit Lions.
Why Detroit? Why send him to that career-killing franchise? Here's why...
*Gunther Cunningham loved this kid. He campaigned hard for the Chiefs to draft him. And Gun is probably still convinced that he turn DJ into a superstar.
*He's better suited as a linebacker in a 4-3.
*Detroit is a team on the rise and Johnson could be a big contributor to that defense.
*It would work out for both parties: he'll have a clean slate in Detroit, and the Chiefs will be able to get something else in return. I doubt that Detroit will be willing to trade a first or second round pick in next year's draft, but asking for a third or fourth round pick isn't unreasonable.
So what do you guys think? Let me know.

i think we have to give him a year at least
he seems to be getting more comfortable in the scheme. this could be the year where he becomes a great player.
No...
DJ isn’t what we expected him to be, but he’s still an important player for this team. He may not “start”, but he’s going to see the field a lot.

The only trade that would make sense is for a starter.
Nobody is trading a starting nose tackle for DJ, so I think he stays.
No sir...
Crennel is going to use him quite alot. Derrick will be a big part of this team this year. I hope he has a huge year for us; I’ve always been a fan but just frustrated with lack of play here lately.

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
No way
We need to keep all the talent we have at this point. He may not start but he is going to play alot.
I'm of two minds on this situation.
Firstly, he looks like he is starting to blossom in this defense and keeping him might pay dividends.
Second, he has had 5 years of opportunity to shine, has a big contract, so let’s dump him and the contract for what we can get, thereby giving one of the younger guys a shot.
I really don’t think there is much interest in his services elsewhere in the league. So trading him for a draft pick of relevance is most likely a pipe dream.
This is a contract year for him.
Either he blossoms and we pay him decent, or he stays the same and gets a contract somewhere in the 15-30 range for a LB. Either way it works out for the Chiefs.

yah, his numbers from the Eagles game (in Kalo's post this morning) were VERY good ...
he was filling his gaps, doing what he was SUPPOSED to do (part of the reason he didn’t look as good as Demorrios was because he was usually side-by-side with Mays, and Mays was getting beat all over the place, again as per Kalo’s number crunching)
there’s more to it than number of sacks and tackles … he showed his upside in Game 3 the other day

The timing is bad.
It makes no sense to trade him now. He’s in a contract year. Let him go play well enough to prove his value on the open market for the season, then dangle him for something we need.
With one year on his contract and knowing he is not coming back I'd trade him..
…but I would start him if he were here.
