Friday Night Open Thread

Photo

My first week of work at SB Nation headquarters is complete and I have to say I feel pretty good about it. Without elaborating, SB Nation is going to achieve world domination in the near future.

As always, give us your personal victory of the week in tonight's open thread. Mine is of course finally making it to Washington, DC, and starting the new gig.

What's your victory of the week?

Getting up at 4 am monday and flying all the way from nj to kc for some ok joes, gates, and a seat 7 rows from the field. My voice is still jacked up. The best game I have been to at arrowhead in years.

I'M DONE FREAKING TRAVELLING!

I’ve been on the road for about 2 weeks living in hotels and in the arms of strange and mysterious women. I’m finally home, and don’t want to leave my couch all weekend.

You were not in hotels for 2 weeks!

No real victory save the Chefs

Rough fucking week of work. Time to pour some Sailor Jerry’s and get primed for funk night.

Go Cats, beat Iowa.

Politics aside, Obama would of better been served, buying 5 "new" football teams.

Then the price went up when people realized it was amazing stuff.

Seemed like it used to be $17-20 and has dropped to $14-16. At least at the Chop.

As I mentioned Monday night after the game

My big victory for the week is getting hired as a tech support technician at Socket. I’d been looking for a job for months. The rumors about getting an English degree were true!

I don’t know much of anything about telecommunications, but they tell me that is the easy part to train. I’ve gone in for training the past three days and let me tell you, it doesn’t look too easy to me! But I’ll make it, and everyone I’ve met and worked with there is awesome. I’m excited.

Congrats Chris!

I’m headed down to the sports bar to watch Nevada take on Cal. It should be a hell of a game, The two offenses combined for over 100 points last week while holding the other team to a combined 10 points (or so). The game will be nationally televised, so if anybody’s interested watch along and root for the Wolf Pack!

If Nevada wins tonight, and after the Chiefs definitely win on Sunday, that will make for a hell of a victory this week!

Take it easy AP!

Yeah...

Im crossing my fingers, but not holding my breath. Off the record the guy told me at the end, that if the guy who would be my boss doesn’t mind hiring someone who is “green” i’ve got a pretty good shot, but if they want someone more experienced more than likely I wouldn’t be getting a call back. I forgot to tell them that I would take the job for a lot less than anyone else they would hire.

by Bassbustin on Sep 17, 2010 7:23 PM CDT up reply actions

I had mine burst inside me.

I was being a tough guy too, but for 3 days. On the 4th day I couldn’t take it anymore and 1. called in sick 2. I drove myself to college and registered for classes that way my parents nsurance would cover it and 3. drove myself to the hospital. They gave me a pan pill in the ER before they even diagnosed the appendix so I didn’t feel it burst but sometime before surgery it must have because I had to have a tube in my stomach draining fluid out of there for days. I missed two weeks of work and even then it took me another 2-4 weeks before I was good again.

My recommendation to everybody, that shit hurts and ain’t worth it so go to the hospital!

they said mine was on the verge of breaking.. But because my appendix was in a weird position right below my liver, the rupture would have been worse.. But man that’s badass, I couldn’t imagine doing those things in the pain I was in before the surgery

so I didn’t have insurance either.. Lucky for me there is a hospital in Hawaii (Queens, it’s actually one of the better Hospitals in the state) that is specifically designed to take in and treat Hawaiians.. They were great they even got the government to pay for that visit.

I've always said the greatest thing a human being can do in this world

is to be a good person and raise a good person. On a side note, I plan on naming my first son (whenever he comes along) Evander simply because it means “a good man” in greek and that’s all I care for my kids to be.

My victory was that I was so jacked about the Chiefs playing Monday that I managed to stay awake and watch the entire game. Crazy thing is, I don’t usually make it past 10:30EST. But I made it 1AM. There is exclusive video on chiefs site of Haley giving Dex recognition in the locker room after the game. Not sure though if that means captain.

...And as the roar of 80,000 red-clad great plains warriors fills the hallowed halls of Arrowhead, it will strike fear into the hearts of lesser men. For on that field, individual men toil for something greater than individual honors. They toil as brothers-in-arms, as 53 spirits striving towards a single purpose and driven by a single goal: The glory that comes with vanquishing your foes. They will achieve their birthright, they will be champions.

i forgot who posted the Chargers press conference with Stephen Cooper...

But it was a link to Stephen Cooper basically talking shit about how he and the Chargers were going to come into Arrowhead, and “Hit people in the mouth” and take the fans out of the game etc. He was talking all sorts of SHIT…..

Well I just saw on espn that thhis week he’s out (listed as doubtful) with a knee. I went back and watched tape. Wiegmann fninished him off pretty darn good on a running play. I know what you’re thinking, never wish ill will towards someone. I get that, and believe in it. But when people openly talk trash and disrespect us the way that he did in an interview…well.. He got his.

Whoever made that fanpost…You should get a chuckle out of that.

minor "victory" of a sort ... managed to fill out a PDF application for a job, couldn't save it though, although I could print ... but needed it digital to email

friend was going to have it scanned at work but couldn’t, but … I found a place in “the clouds” that allows you to change and edit and save PDFs, including new data in the form boxes … so I managed to get all the application items done and saved on my HD and emailed out in a few hours … now if the job comes thru that will be a MAJOR victory

of course, the BEST of the week was being mentioned in c&c’s fine CIGAR post earlier today … always an honor to be referenced in someone else’s post

woke up on the right side of the ground this morning, sun shining, glorious day … life really is good … GEAUX TIGERS (well, that’s tomorrow … Sunday is GEAUX CHIEFS)

My personal victory this week

In spite of this terrible economic climate, we managed to officially create another job this week. It hurts and everyone on staff has had to sacrifice to make it happen. We pulled it together as a team and expanded by one to give ourselves a little more capacity to try and grow despite how badly the deck is stacked against us. It may not sound like a big deal to you guys, but it’s a full body effort for us little guys out here. We found a way to keep a roof overhead and food on the table for a solid young man and his family. Yay!

I made it through 4 hours of work. I had to get on my knees at one point and put a pillow

down so my knees didn’t hurt so much. But it took the pressure off my back. I didn’t think I could make it, but I just kept pushing through the pain and begging the clock to haul ass for me.

  1. Seeing how KC d-linemen kept their eyes on the ball and their heads in the game. Great awareness and leverage.

Mine is not getting arrested

I managed to not get arrested in Arrowhead parking lot for being buck assed naked after the game. I mean what else was I gonna do? I have never been that soaking wet in my life and no way I was going to get in my car that way and drive the 5 hours home. So my wife and I dropped cloth right there in the lot and climbed in naked for the ride home. God it felt good to be naked and warm! How wrong was that?
By the way, sorry to the nice lady sitting in her Jeep a row back that had to watch the whole thing. I think I caught her laugh a little. And I’m a little scared to open youtube right now.

My Victory.

Is the Chiefs winning, therefore enabling me to rub it in to my san diego charger fan choir director. :) It was very sweet. I’m looking forward to being able to do it again when we face them again.

Also another, my parents returning from KC area where my grandparents live and returning with new chiefs gear for me. They usually go once or twice a year to see them so I get new chiefs stuff every now and then, this time was a long sleeve shirt and a new sweatshirt. Living in iowa sucks because it’s rare to find KC items with the lions, bears, vikings, packers crap swarming the area.
