This is a great site. Far and away better than any other Chiefs blog out there, and it's not even close. There are a ton of guys here that bring a lot to the table.
We have some guys that give us game breakdowns that most fans would kill for (looking at you, Bewsaf and Kalo).
We have some guys that put up entertaining posts that fill the void on light news days (too many to list all, but Aiken, Porkchop, upamtn, and again Bewsaf come to mind).
We've got guys who put forth the "other" perspective that keeps debates rolling (chicks, H2E, and LHO are my favorites, even though I've disagreed with them at times).
Basically, we've got it all here. And it seems like it would be a shame to let any one issue lower the quality of this site. But it does happen. From what I can gather, a lot of people stopped looking at AP daily before the draft (I was one of them) because it got to be WAY too much of the same stuff over and over and over. The quality of the site went down as people had the same debate time and again.
I think that time has once again come...
Matt Cassel. There, I've mentioned his name. Cue at least 150 comments, with about 140 of them repeating the same arguments that we've all heard so many times that we wake up screaming them in the middle of the night.
(my wife and I lying peacefully in bed at 2 in the morning. suddenly I start groaning and thrashing fitfully on the bed. My wife wakes up and stares at me as my "fit" becomes more and more violent. Abruptly I bolt upright and being to scream)
"He sucked royally!!!! How many games can we win with under 70 yards passing??? You idiot it was the gameplan!!!! There was a freaking monsoon going on!!!! That didn't seem to stop Rivers!!!! But we won the game!!!! Who cares, he doesn't have the arm!!!! He can make the throws!!!! No, his pocket presence is awful!!!! He doesn't have the time needed!!!! He had plenty of time, it's his flaws that are killing us!!!! He did fine in NE!!!! That was with Randy Moss and Wes Welker genius!!!! AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!"
I for one am tired of this being a nightly ritual in my home. I just want to sleep. Is that too much to ask?
I broached this subject with poor Aiken (seriously, Aiken, did you have any IDEA the can of worms you were opening? Any outsider seeing that number of comments would've thought that you'd revealed the cure to cancer) on his last post; why is this becoming a "one side or the other" kind of issue? Why is it so black and white? And most importantly, why, one game into the season, and KNOWING that Cassel will be our QB for at least the majority of the year no matter what, are we so obsessed with bashing him, or making excuses for him (have you ever seen that many commas in one sentence? C'mon, you know you haven't)?
Here's the thing; I have an opinion about Cassel. But I'm not going to talk about it. Because it's already been said at least 300 times in the last 6 months.
I don't know about the rest of you guys (and gals), but I am absolutely sick and tired of talking about Cassel. All the opinions have been said. You (and I) have nothing new whatsoever to add to the debate. Every possible angle, stat, excuse, diss, and possibility has been discussed. Seriously, this has become AP's version of "George W Bush was the worst President ever".
Let's let it go. At least for a while. Hey, we're all adults here, and everyone can do what they want. If you feel like wasting what I assume is your valuable time saying (or reading) something that's already been said by dozens of people, be my guest (isn't freedom of speech fantastic?). But as for me and my house, we WILL stop talking about Matt Cassel until after Week 6. I don't care if he chucks 4 TD passes a game or throws 3 picks a game before then, I'm not going to utter a peep about it.
Not because there won't be things to say, but because they will have all already been said about a billion times, and they will just lead to the exact same arguments. If he goes out next week and posts a perfect rating on the way to a 400 yard game, it means very little. Because it's very, very early in the season.
So I'm done. There's a ton of issues with our undefeated, AFC West leading team (hey, gotta enjoy it while it lasts, right?) we can talk about that HAVEN'T been hashed over more times than the "f-bomb" is dropped in Scarface (on a completely unrelated note, am I the only guy in the universe who thinks that movie is one of the only movies in history where the F word is an absolute necessity? Try watching it on TV. It's just not the same. It's as if Al was deriving his power from that word).
If anyone wants to join me on the "I'm not going to talk about Matt Cassel until after Week 6" bandwagon, feel free. I have to tell you, it feels... peaceful. I now know that my life will have a little more meaning and little less redundancy over the next month and a half.
Oh, and did I mention that we're in sole possession of 1st place in the AFC West? I don't care one iota that it's after one week, or that it very likely won't stay that way for an extended period of time. We're in first place, baby!
I will read what Joel has to say about Cassel after games, because Joel is the man and he's just telling us the facts. However, I'm not going to break "Cassel Silence" (that's right, I've given it a name) when i read those posts. Because hey, I man's word is his bond, right?
I am going to begin CS, starting.... now
