Chiefs Sign LB Charlie Anderson; LB Cameron Sheffield Heads To IR
The Kansas City Chiefs didn't place LB Cameron Sheffield on IR during cut down week after he had suffered a neck injury during the preseason. We thought that was a sign that Sheffield, the Chiefs 2010 fifth round pick, would be ready at some point this season.
Apparently not.
The Chiefs announced that they have placed Sheffield on injured reserve ending his season. It's the second straight year a Chiefs draft pick has hit IR before playing in a regular season game (Colin Brown, 2009 fifth round pick).
Taking his spot is LB Charlie Anderson. The Chiefs connection with Anderson is that he was on the Miami Dolphins in 2008-09 while Bill Parcells was running the show.
Anderson has played in 92 NFL games including four years with the Houston Texans (2004-07) and then the Dolphins. For his career, he has 62 tackles, 7.5 sacks and four forced fumbles. He was originally a sixth round pick from Ole Miss.
That's too bad for Sheffield. He had started to pick things up during the preseason before the injury happened. Best of luck to him in his recovery.

Long time, first time
Hi everybody, I am a long time reader, first time poster. I just wanted to say how much I like this move. This LB is not going to get us to the SB, but it shows that Pioli is never satisfied. He could have just put Scheffield on the IR, and moved someone up from PS, or grabbed someone that worked with us this year already, but he saw an opportunity to upgrade due to an injury. Anyways, this site is spectacular, thaks for the great content, and let’s go take care of business against the Browns. Go Chiefs!!!
welcome!
this should be the most exciting Chiefs team in years! Most major needs filled with playmakers, and the league's best coaching staff... 10-6 a possibility?
Welcome to the party!
So you got the fax. So why didn't you add it to the resume? What do you mean? Of course martial arts training is relevant.

each blog can decide if they want it. I knew we had it but I didnt realize that they did b/c I joined them a long time ago
Chiefs Will
I like it
He looks like a good back-up/special teamer who knows the 3-4 and how to get to the qb in limited opportunities. All but one of his sacks happened in the last three years.

exactly
Not a blockbuster deal, by any means, but he can contribute on ST, and provide depth

I like taking the time to get Sheff healthy. No sense in rushing him along.
Welcome Charlie!

Exactly BRC
Make sure he Sheffield gets better, and hey, it gives him time to watch and learn.
I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.
Chiefs are pretty liberal with the IR tag
Sheff probably could have made it back, but they would rather be cautious, and use every roster spot every week…
so, I’m not too shocked
I did call Sheff and Leggett to IR before roster cuts :)

If daddy-in-law like him, well I will always trust in Parcells opinions on players.
Good pickup!
"One of the teams asked me a running back question," McCluster said. "They said when you have the ball, do you focus on the guy who's in front of you or the next guy.
"I told them 99% of the time, I'm going to make that first guy miss. Then, I'm onto the next."

I hope Sheffield comes back better than ever for our nickel packages.
We await your return next year Cameron Sheffield

Small snippet of interview....interviewer and Charlie Anderson
BH: What are some of your interests off the field?
CA: I’m into golf and tryin to get into it. I got everything you need but the game. I like bowling, even though I havn’t bowled a lot since I was in Houston. That’s usually all we did in Houston. Just hangin out with my kids and family. I drive a car that I have a lot, but just hanging out with my wife and kids.
BH: Growing up down south, were the Dolphins your favorite team growing up?
CA: Haha, I’m gonna say no, but I’m from Mississippi, so I am, and everybody down there is a (New Orleans) Saints fan. I like the Saints, and a couple times they came into town and played here in the pre-season, and now they practice here for training camp, so that’s great. But everyone from there was a Saints fan. Growing up though I was a (San Francisco) 49ers fan with Jerry Rice and everyone else on that team.

I think this was a good move
I think this was a lot more for Sheffield’s protection in cace his injury is worse (ala O’Connell last year). I hope that Sheffield can make it back next year.
I was hoping Walters would come back
to the active roster if Sheffield went to IR. Walters seemed to have a pretty good motor and played hard. Game-time action could give him a chance to develop the way Studey did.
Why does Anderson just step right into Sheffield's slot....
I’d rather see a guy who sweat it out through Haley’s conditioning program an training camp, get the nod. Cory Greenwood.
I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is the moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle............victorious. ~Vince Lombardi

Greenwood's an ILB
He might be able to play outside, but if he hasn’t been practicing there it would be a big change.
