I feel the Chiefs d-line has received a lot of criticism that maybe all of it they didn't deserve.
I noticed most of the time the opponents QB gets rid of the ball so quickly that there really isnt time for a sack. Obviously this doesnt apply to every play but a majority of the time i feel the lack of coverage has made the QB's job way too easy. It seems they always have a wide open reciever to throw to. In fact it has seemed to me that the last two yrs our recievers have defenders hanging all over them when they try to make a catch, while the opponents receiver has open space and really no Chiefs defender within 4 or 5 yards. Two yrs ago Tony would have a guy on each arm yet he was strong enough to rip the ball away, yet our defenders....well you get the picture.
I think this why management chose to address the secondary heavily in this yrs draft. If our coverage personnel can start locking up these receivers within the first 2 seconds of the play, thus causing the QB to look to his 2nd and 3rd options, the sacks will soon follow.Unless the defender is left alone unblocked it takes around 3 or 4 seconds to get to the QB depending on where the pressure is coming from.
To make a long story short i just dont think Dorsey and TJ can be as bad as some people think. Football is a team sport and as the secondary improves it will certainly help our dline in the sack and pressure dept.
