Alright, let's see your 53

Okay AP, before the final cuts come down let's see how well you know your team.  I want your 53.  Let's assume they don't sign anybody and that nobody goes on the IR.  I know that's not likely, but that makes you have to pin things down a little more.  So I'll start things off:

Star-divide

QB - Cassel, Croyle, Palko

RB - Charles, Jones, Battle

FB - Castille, Cox

WR - Bowe, Chambers, McCluster, Urban, Horne

TE - Pope, Moeaki, O'Connell

OT - Albert, O'Callaghan, Richardson, Ndukwe

OG - Waters, Lilja, Asamoah

C - Nigwanger, Wiegmann

DE - Dorsey, Jackson, Smith, Gilberry, Magee

NT - Edwards, Lokey

OLB - Hali, Vrabel, Studebaker, Sheffield, Walters

ILB - Williams, Johnson, Belcher, Mays

CB - Flowers, Carr, Arenas, Leggett, Daniels

S - Berry, Lewis, McGraw, Washington

LS - Gafford

K - Succop

P - Colquitt

Some thoughts on my picks:  I'm going with two fullbacks because of their different strengths and our dedication to running the ball this year.  Lawrence and Copper lose out to Horne's upside and the number of strong ST players now on the roster.  Ndukwe beats out Brown who can go to the practice squad.  We keep all 7 of the D-linemen in question and use them all situationally to keep fresh legs.  Walters edges out the other ST LBs like Herron and Greenwood.  Daniels beats out Richardson and Bates.  Washington wins the fourth safety spot due to his ability to also play corner (and he was a Pioli pick).

Alright let's see what you got AP.

My best guess, assuming no one goes to IR

QB: Cassel, Croyle, Palko
HB: Charles, Jones, Battle
FB: Castille
WR: Bowe, Chambers, McCluster, Horne, Copper, Lawrence
TE: Pope, Moeaki, O’Connell
OT: Albert, O’Callaghan, Richardson
OG: Waters, Lilja, Asamoah, Harris
C: Wiegmann, Niswanger

DE: Dorsey, Jackson, Gilberry, Magee
NT: Edwards, Smith
OLB: Hali, Vrabel, Studebaker, Sheffield, Walters
ILB Williams, Belcher, Johnson, Mays, Greenwood
CB: Flowers, Carr, Arenas, Leggett
S: Berry, Lewis, McGraw, Washington, Langford

LS: Gafford
K: Succop
P: Colquitt

I included Harris because well, I like him. He was running with the first team before he got hurt, so I think he had a pretty good shot at making it. I do however, expect him to be placed on IR so I probably should pick someone else (likely Ndukwe) but you said assuming no one goes to IR, so I went with what I would like to see.

I know there’s some weak spots to my roster (only three tackles, thin on D-line) but I tried to go with what I felt was the best players. Admittedly, in some spots I’m just guessing as I don’t remember a lot about some players.

I just don't see Lokey not making the team when we're weak at NT.

and not when they’ve been rotating him in some with the starters.

he is practice squad eligible

but I doubt he would even clear waivers, seeing as how other teams even in the AFC West have a need for NT.

The picture is a Chiefs pumpkin, yeah that is right a Chiefs pumpkin.

by jrcnc on Sep 1, 2010 9:16 AM CDT up reply actions

are you sure he's eligible?

we were discussing this on another thread… he was on the PS in 08 and 09, for at least part of the season

this should be the most exciting Chiefs team in years! Most major needs filled with playmakers, and the league's best coaching staff... 10-6 a possibility?

by stagdsp on Sep 1, 2010 9:36 AM CDT up reply actions

not certain

but im sure if they think he can add depth and or compete I really hope they give him a chance and dont let him fall to some other team through waivers.

unless my theory is correct...

and they have been giving Lokey a long look in preseason, but ultimately will go with Smith as the backup NT and DE, and let Lokey go

I kept going back and forth on Lokey

In the end, I wasn’t sure who to cut to keep him. I thought about Greenwood to the PS mostly and almost went that way.

I like Lokey and would love to see him make it this year, but I’m not sure if he’s shown enough to make it or not.

I don't know why

But I think Horne and Lawrence make it as the team stands now. Urban has been pretty much invisible and to my knowledge, doesn’t play special teams.

by bh13 on Sep 1, 2010 3:17 PM CDT up reply actions

that's a thought...

I think Urban does play ST, but he’s not as visable as Horne, Lawrence or Copper

by stagdsp on Sep 1, 2010 3:51 PM CDT up reply actions

It's possible

It’s always easier to spot the guys making the tackles than the guys absorbing blockers.

WR’s one of the trickier spots to figure out on the roster. Some are pretty easy (TE, RB, S) and others are a bit harder (OL, DL, WR).

call McCluster a RB or OW

My thinking is that we have a few guys that can fill in at multiple positions...

Like Richardson, McCluster and Washington.

With Dexter doubling as a WR/RB, if Charles or Jones gets hurt we’ll need another WR, since Dex will likely take more snaps at RB.

My 53 looked the same except...

… I have Safety R.Langford still on the team.

I went with no Long Snapper b/c I couldn’t decide who to cut.
I would say the guys from this list on the bubble are Alex Magee, D.Washington, Walters, and one of the FB’s.

I could also see Palko getting replaced by a FA.

I read about a high school coach that does that

He said it was better for the kids to score more points, and the success rate on field goals was less than the success rate of going for it on 4th down.

They can find somebody....

Out of 53 guys, surely someone can hike a ball 12 yards.

Jared Allen wouldn't have fit the 3-4 anyway...

Not sure if they'll keep Horne over Copper.....

But I think you pretty much nailed it. Yep, that looks about right to me.

I wouldn’t be shocked if they went ahead and cut McGee though.
