Waiver wire/trade one stop....

Tampa_bay_buccaneers_v_kansas_city_chiefs_fzblttwelydl_medium

via www3.pictures.gi.zimbio.com

With the permission of Tomahawk44,(his idea originally) I have posted this up to give everyone here on AP a one stop thread for all waiver wire activity. In the coming days there is going to be alot of activity. Lots of names, some better than others are going to be hitting the open market, lets all come to this spot and discuss it.

As soon as someone sees that anyone has hit the open market or swung a trade of some sort, post a link in here and lets have at it. So far there are quite a few names still out there but off the top of my head:

QB

 Kevin O'Connell cut-NYJ

WR

Lance Long cut-KC

Antonio Bryant cut-CIN

Laveranues Coles cut-NYJ

TE

Tony Stewart cut-OAK

RB

Justin Fargas cut-DEN

Derrick Ward cut-TB

OL

Adrian Jones cut-PITT

I know there is more so help me out and I will update who of note got the boot and when they sign, I will update their new team. Honestly I can see the Chiefs maybe taking a chance on an Offensive Lineman or two, but other than that, even though Coach Haley say's we are lacking depth everywhere, I feel pretty comfortable with how this roster is shaking out. Look for alot of veterans to continue to hit the market thus giving them a better chance to catch on elsewhere.

What do you think? Are we going to make a waiver wire pickup, or sit back and roll with what we got? Coles_medium

I think the only type of player we will look at

will be OLine help, or someone who had no business being cut, and we can snag them immediately like an instant starting Linebacker or Nose Tackle.

if and when

Carr can turn his head around, then he will be a lock down CB. You already have Flowers on the otherside so they are going to pick on Carr all day long. Hopefully they are going to help him with turning his head around and recognizing where the ball is at. Once he does that he is going to get at least a few more INT’s and passes defended.

The picture is a Chiefs pumpkin, yeah that is right a Chiefs pumpkin.

Yeppers! I'll REC that 'cause that's it in a nutshell...

I could not agree more. Problem is, he doesn’t have much time left to fix that. In my mind, he showed a NEW glaring fault last week when he successfully defensed a pass by stripping the receivers arms just as the ball arrived.

Since he (again) didn’t turn around and simply keyed on the receivers sticking his arms out for the ball, upcoming opponents watching tape of this will realize all they need to do is stick out their arms early, Carr will key on this smacking the receivers arms, and, since the ball isn’t there yet, he’ll be a sucker for a PI penalty.

I’ll be the first to admit I’m NOT a Carr hater…I want the guy to make it. He’s worked his tail off this year, and is much better than last year. Big problem is last year he sucked. I agree also that with Flowers on the opposite side, Carr is currently the weak spot, and will be the whipping boy, especially on 3rd & 5 and longer situations.

I really hope Romeo can work another miracle!

by rwalke10 on Sep 1, 2010 7:55 PM CDT up reply actions

I will take the comment in the spirit it was given :)

Carr will get a ton of attention by both the coaches and the enemy.
That is a good thing, unless Flowers gets all big-headed and thinks the throws will not come his way too.
Carr is a bigger CB and will be matched up on the bigger/ somewhat slower posession receiver IMO. Can Carr defeat a Bowe type WR every time? NO, he won’t but that is his job to get better at. The Chiefs have a nice set of skills in the three CB’s that make up the nickel D.
Arenas gets the slot/smaller quicker WR’s, and Flowers takes on the smaller/speed WR’s. Seems maybe in my mind that Flowers gets the #2 WR more often and Carr goes up against the #1. Please tell me if I am wrong :)

by Steve_Chiefs on Sep 1, 2010 8:10 PM CDT up reply actions

If they want to double-team the #1 WR

It may may more sense to leave Flowers in single coverage on the #2 WR.

by Tarkus on Sep 2, 2010 2:40 PM CDT up reply actions

Great start

I was wondering if you can break it up into position sections

QB:
Kevin O’Connel – cut NYJ

WR:
L. Coles-cut NYJ
Lance Long-cut KC

and so forth :]

Other Arenas wish they could be like Arrowhead Stadium and when rivals think they are going to be fine on an island of Flowers, they will get hit by what feels like a Carr. Ultimately, they will never be able to eat a Berry ever again.

by jrcnc on Aug 31, 2010 3:35 PM CDT up reply actions

I still think the guy is too soft to handle the pounding of an NFL level NT

He needs to get into better shape. He manhandled a lot of O Line in the NCAA due to the sheer size difference.

In the NFL, these C’s and G’s handle guys his size every week. And there are some rough, mean nasty road graders on the interior line of a LOT of teams at this level. Different ball game.

I still think Cody can be good. But there’s a caveat of – if he can get his ass into good enough shape to take the beatings that will most assuredly come from NFL level interior O Line.

by TRSChief on Sep 1, 2010 7:53 AM CDT up reply actions

Kind of like how TJax got by in college on sheer physical ability

Now that he’s in the NFL and some of these mutant RT’s in the league can’t be beaten by TJax’s size / strength alone, it’s now that he’s having to be coached up and learn to develop good technique to compliment that size. And it takes awhile.

Chiefs - back in the playoffs in 2011.

by TRSChief on Sep 1, 2010 7:55 AM CDT up reply actions

good assessment

hopefully TJax can put it all together and this year his technique will blossom with the help of Crennel. As for Cody I still kind of wish we had taken him, but now with knee injuries occuring its looking alot more iffy.

Charger cuts from BFTB
The #Chargers have released WR Gary Banks, ILB Darry Beckwith, G Lee Grimes and RB Marcus Mason. LB Donald Butler placed on Reserve-Injured.
GASP!

Gary Banks being released I totally get, because there’s a lot of depth at WR and he’s been nothing but disappointing throughout the preseason. The same could be said for Marcus Mason, and I guess now he has a chance to land on another team and get a shot to impress the coaches before they cut down to 53.

Darry Beckwith is the shocking name on this list. He is a 2nd year ILB that I thought had been playing some decent defense (albeit as part of the third-string unit), but it’s his performance on Special Teams that had people like Kevin Acee predicting that Beckwith would land on the final 53-man roster.

I fully expected it to happen. I imagine some team, just like we did last year, are going to make the comparisons to “you know who” (not Voldemort) with Long meaning they will snag him up. Not to mention we dumped him early to give him that chance. That is the only reason I kept him up there. And to piss off H2E a little :)

NYG have about 3913 guys that are DE's or DT's

They strickly run a 4-3 but if they are cut from the Giant’s front 4, they could still be good ball players and might be a decent look at OLB or DE.

I can see them cutting 3 or 4 DLinemen, but I don’t know who they would be. So ya, basically this was a useless comment. You’re welcome.

Another possible name

Taken from another board:

DL Jarron Gilbert out of SJSU…remember him? I wanted us to draft him when he came out. Chicago drafted him even though he had 5 technique written all over him. He’s struggled to date there and there are rumors they are debating what to do with him and may release him. Would love to trade for him. He showed up in their last preseason game so I dunno if that will make them rethink keeping him but I would love for KC to make an offer for him. Very athletic big guy 6’5 280. I think he could be a good addition for us.

looks like Greg Olsen may be available for trade:Chicago Sun Times;
Since then, there has been nothing but tireless propaganda about the way Olsen fits into Mike Martz offense. Now, it seems possible that the struggles of 2008 first-round pick Chris Williams could lead to a trade of 2007 first-round pick Olsen because newly minted veteran tight end Brandon Manumaleuna has to play as an extra blocker. The problem remains the Bears’ reluctance to trade Olsen for anything less than a second- to third-round pick despite his market value being roughly a fifth-round pick. The situation is complicated by Cutler’s friendship with Olsen, who has received favored-receiver status with the quarterback.

Coles is talking retirement
“Veteran wide receiver Laveranues Coles, who was released by the Jets today, said he’s leaning towards retirement because he doesn’t want to turn into a journeyman and his dream of retiring as a Jet has been realized. Coles, in his third stint with the Jets, said the club may try to re-sign him after the first game of the season — his contract won’t be guaranteed then — but he’s not sure he wants to do that. "I think I’m done,‘’ Coles, 32, told The Star-Ledger. "I don’t want to become one of those journeyman football players. I don’t need the money. Coach (Rex Ryan) said I was doing well and they want to bring me back after the first game but I don’t know.

Cincy Receivers

No matter how it turns out, the Bengals will be cutting some intriguing WRs. Right now, it looks like Jerome Simpson, Matt Jones, Desmond Briscoe, and Maurice Purify are all battling for one roster spot.

Obviously I’m biased, but I think it would be a great move to bring in Briscoe and groom him to be Chambers’ future replacement. I’m guessing Jones’ love for the booger sugar would prevent him from being a part of the “Right 53.” Don’t know much about Purify (except that he was unstoppable against us when he was at Nebraska) or Simpson.

by LTownChiefsFan on Sep 2, 2010 3:40 PM CDT up reply actions

Purify is another WR with the route runnung problem.

He basically thrives in a dumbed down system… you know, “Okay run to the corner of the endzone and out jump the other dude.” That’s about it…. he would be a project for sure…. he is a helluva endzone catcher though.

So you got the fax. So why didn't you add it to the resume? What do you mean? Of course martial arts training is relevant.

Travis Goethel

Macho Harris could get cut..and or Kurt Coleman whom the Chiefs had interest in
MACHO HARRIS can count, and he knows that getting moved from cornerback, where he’d played all spring and summer, back to safety for the final week of the preseason probably was not a great omen for his continued employment with the Eagles.

Harris talked this week about the opportunity to “showcase my talent” in tonight’s preseason finale against the visiting New York Jets. Translated, that means the rest of the NFL will see the film, and if last year’s rookie starter at free safety is a victim when the Birds trim from 75 to 53 this weekend, he at least can enhance his chance of getting a job somewhere else.

Another name to consider

Leon Williams ILB Dallas (DaJuan Morgan): A 4th year 4th round pick by the Browns out of the U who may be losing a roster spot b/c of a 2nd year player drafted by the Cowboys. Leon played in all 16 games for Cleveland in ‘06 and ’07 and 14 games in ’08, recording his best season in ’07 with 85 tackles (63 solo) and 4 sacks. He played in the UFL in 2009 after being waived by the Browns and signed a contract with Dallas in January of this year. Leon’s addition could push Mays/Belcher at SILB with his size (6’3", 248 lbs.) and seems to fit the physical type for SILB that Haley talked about.

Khalif Mitchell

San Francisco DT/NT: A UDFA out of East Carolina signed in ‘09 by San Fran. His size (6’5", 318 lbs.) could put him in competition at NT or DE, but could probably play both, giving him value as a multi-positional player on our roster. He played pretty successfully at East Carolina as a nose guard and DE, suffered through some injuries his last season of ‘08, (honorable All-Conference mention in ’07). Has good speed to recover and plays strong against the run. Again, with the current depth at NT and DE, he probably wouldn’t have to play much initially, but could be a good rotational guy
