The Kansas City Chiefs have already made their initial roster cuts getting down to the NFL mandated limit of 75 players. The deadline for the first round of cuts was this afternoon. Round two is Saturday.
The Chiefs first five cuts all came from the offense and it evened up the offensive and defensive numbers:
- Offense: 36 players
- Defense: 36 players (Jarrad Page doesn't count)
- Special teams: 3 players
There's your total of 75 players. Here's the latest depth chart with all five of these players now out. Interesting that the Chiefs had Lance Long above Rich Gunnell on the depth chart but released him.
The linebackers have the most players in one position group with 12, followed by offensive linemen with 10 and receivers with nine. The secondary has 15 players cornerbacks and safeties.
With 22 more cuts to come, there will be a lot of nervous players against the Packers on Thursday night. It's possible/likely the Chiefs start releasing guys on Friday after the Packers game.
