Five Kansas City Chiefs Miss Practice; Brodie Croyle Returns

The Kansas City Chiefs saw five players miss practice with injuries on Monday and one player return.

Missing on Monday, according to Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com was Darryl Harris, Maurice Leggett, Cameron Sheffield, Ryan O'Callaghan and Tamba Hali.

Harris has been out several weeks with an injury. If he hasn't been placed on PUP then we've gotta think he'll be ready to go sometime in the first month of the season if not earlier. Leggett and Sheffield both received injuries over the last two weeks and indications are that they're both getting healthy.

O'Callaghan is an important injury to monitor. He didn't play on Friday against the Philadelphia Eagles and Barry Richardson took his spot. We're not sure where O'Callaghan stands.

Hali is a new addition to the injury report. He suffered no known injury in Friday's game. He could just be getting a veteran day off.

Returning to practice on Monday, according to Looney, was Brodie Croyle. He had been out for several weeks with an unspecified arm injury. His injury caused the Chiefs to sign Bill Stull but he's since been released accurately predicting Croyle's return.

YESH!

one thing for sure, he’s a better passer than Palko … then again, a slug is probably a better passer than Palko

I look for a good bit of gametime Thursday for Croyle, and I look for him to do very well in there

You know, that game might be a win

With Brodie (who has the skills of a starter) going against a bunch of scrubs all game.

I’m also curious how much our rookies will play. They’ve all won roster spots, and Lewis may have played his way into a starter role. So how much do you play your rookies?

I (selfishly) hope we play them enough to win, even against the GB scrubs.

If I had my way,

Charles, Dexter, Berry, Flowers, Bowe, Chambers, Hali, Dorsey and Cassel wouldn’t take a single snap.

Winning this upcoming game isn’t nearly as important as being healthy and ready to lay the hammer down on the Dolts come week 1.

starters will play one series, maybe two ...

after that the question is, do they play guys from the bottom or the middle? second half is definitely going to be the bottom dwellers, the guys you’d glance at now and thing “he’s gone, that one’s gone, him too” … in case someone does something unseen until now

Croyle will play most of 1st half just to get back to some sharpness in “game conditions” … second half I’m sure will be all Palko (translation: run run run run run incomplete run run run incomplete run run run)

I think you put in one too many completions there

And yes, I’m aware that you didn’t put any.

should have added an interception or two

this should be the most exciting Chiefs team in years! Most major needs filled with playmakers, and the league's best coaching staff... 10-6 a possibility?

With more roster cuts coming I wonder how

the borderline guys will perform at these practices. Reps are crucial at this point.

I'm not to worried about a few of those guys. I don't think they would be playing much if any in this last preseason game.

They will be rested and hopefully all healed up by the opener. I do think however we will see Brodie come out in the first quarter. He needs to knock off the rust and get back out there getting reps.

Yeah, let's just keep matriculatin' the ball down the field, boys! ...

Seriously

it’s amazing how he hustles every play the way people choke him out the way they do……hopefully referees will actually see this more often this year.

I was mad as $#%@ when we drafted Dexter McCluster and now I'm ordering his jersey......oh the irony! Go Chiefs!

Nope

no ump in the backfield anymore, which means a lot of stuff is going to get missed.

No doubt

Why Hali doesn’t get at least 5 flags for being held every game is beyond me. He gets mugged every week and the refs look the other way, it’s starting to get old fast.

Hali IS injured...

I remember a comment from one of the announcers doing the game friday night saying that “Hali is still down,” or something to that effect… but nothing further was ever said, and Hali didn’t return to the field. Much like the very little that was said during the game about Charles going out with his injury last week in Tampa. I don’t remember what particular play it was, but I’m going to go back this evening and re-watch the game. Am I the only one that caught the comment??

no you are 100% correct

but the starters all went out shortly after that (it was in the 3rd quarter) so it was easy to overlook.

no I caught it also

Charles left after he hit his funny bone. Tamba is at least at the facility riding a bike. I know that isn’t saying much but at least he isnt absent from the field. Let him rest if we have to, we have 10 days inbetween GB and the Chargers on Monday Night, that should heal the squad up.

The picture is a Chiefs pumpkin, yeah that is right a Chiefs pumpkin.

Yup the play he was injured was the Kendrick Lewis INT

If you go back and watch the highlight right after the play was over mike kelly said that tamba was shaken up and came off the field. Easy to miss that comment tho due to the excitement of the play

Joel, you forgot to put something about Matt Cassel in your post.

That’s in the TOS, now right? I feel like that change was made recently.

At least with Croyle as QB we can throw farther than 5 yards down field.

I expect we could see Croyle if Cassel continues to struggle. It would be nice to see him at least look down field before dumping off to a RB.

you don't think there's any chance that it's part of the preseason gameplan to keep things short and simple?

Harris Can't Go On the PUP List
If he hasn’t been placed on PUP then we’ve gotta think he’ll be ready to go sometime in the first month of the season if not earlier.

Per NFL rules, because Harris started practicing with the team at the start of training camp he cannot go on the PUP list. (I only know this because I double checked the rules after being corrected myself on a different thread.)
