guess O'Call's injury

is a little more serious than they let on. I hope he is healed up by the opener seeing as how we have 10 days off between GB and the Monday Night game. If not better start scouring the waiver wire for RT’s

Or maybe Richardson will finally step up?

The guy is big and athletic, if he can grasp the plays I think he has potential to be better than O’Cal.

maybe he will

but I still would feel alot better with a solid backup to Richardson. I was hoping Colin Brown would make it, and maybe he has.

True

We are hurting at tackle depth, big time. Not to start the ’11 draft talk, but that needs to be addressed early next April.

hopefully it will be

also hopeful that someone “decent” will hit the waiver wire and will help out.

true

but anyone hitting the waiver wire as a T is going to have some sort of issues, whether it be injuries or poor play. Would be nice if we could swap Paige for a decent RT…

maybe...

but sometimes teams r too deep at a position to keep a good player…also, sometimes players don’t fit the new system being installed. with the second one, I wouldn’t be surprised to see someone come from the broncos or colts line wise.

That would be a tremendous help

Haley did say they had the scouts out watching preseason games to get an idea of who might be available. Maybe we get lucky and someone gets cut not due to injury, but because they’re too deep at that position. I can’t name anyone specifically though…

Belcher needs to stay on first team

And Studebaker for that matter.

I agree Belcher > Mays

I think the point Haley is trying to make is that all these guys are going to get significant playing time during the season, so the ‘starter’ doesn’t really matter from week to week.

Studebaker won’t be ahead of Vrable simply out of respect. He’s going to get a lot of PT.

Predictions:
This year will be better

by jmcgoblue on Aug 30, 2010 10:52 AM CDT up reply actions

May I add on to that

I believe Mays has a better run stopping ability, whereas Belcher is better at pass protection. So given the situation, both players play significantly. Now, towards the end of the game, Belcher will play more because, our opponents are going to have to play catch up so will pass alot. (just had to throw that in)

Mays issue is he seems stiff in the hips. He has trouble laterally which explains his pass protection problems but his change of direction is problematic as well in the run game. Basically if he makes a mistake he doesnt recover well.

and what up with Lokey at FB?

I saw they brought him in a few times, guess they really want him on the roster.

He did that at Texas too

I wonder what he could do if they actually handed him the ball?

Might be fun.

RB

With McCluster also perfectly able to play the position…will we keep 4 RB’s plus Dex? Or will we finally cut J. Williams?

Rudy still the starter?

Hasn’t the offense picked it up everytime Casey’s come in the game?

while Casey has been out of town. Now that he’s back it’s time Casey gets what’s rightfully his

Well...

I keep trying to remind myself that Haley and Pioli have both said several times not to take the depth chart too seriously at this time of year.

As far as the preseason goes

Horne should be right behind Chambers on the Chart. He shown much better than Lawrence and Urban. Hopefully Horne will make the roster because we could use him.

"One of the teams asked me a running back question," McCluster said. "They said when you have the ball, do you focus on the guy who's in front of you or the next guy.

"I told them 99% of the time, I'm going to make that first guy miss. Then, I'm onto the next."

by Matt_Grbac on Aug 30, 2010 11:08 AM CDT reply actions

I think he will make the roster

He’s shown enough in the games that he’d probably be claimed off waivers if KC tried to sneak him onto the PS. He seems to actually have game speed (unlike Lawrence) and would be a good candidate to be Chamber’s successor.

This year will be better

Plus

He looks good on special teams I always seem to see him around the ball

by KCNorm on Aug 30, 2010 11:15 AM CDT up reply actions

I honestly dont think Urban will make the team

he has not showed anything at all… I know he is a Haley guy but still… I guess suprise cut? It would not be a suprise to me though

yeah I think he is a goner

Horne has more than earned that spot.

by jrcnc on Aug 30, 2010 11:21 AM CDT up reply actions

there's probably room for both

I’ve only seen Urban blocking… which he’s pretty good at.

I think that final WR spot goes to Lawrence or Horne

this should be the most exciting Chiefs team in years! Most major needs filled with playmakers, and the league's best coaching staff... 10-6 a possibility?

by stagdsp on Aug 30, 2010 5:24 PM CDT up reply actions

Two things

First, this depth chart mean very little. Charles was (and still is) listed as the #2 RB last week and started the game.

Second, I really hope they actually give Horne some reps at WR this game. I get the whole “secret weapon” thing, but between the deep balls they tried to get to him the first game and the first string TD catch the second, I think people are onto this kid. So lets get him some reps. I was glad to see him play well on ST. That locked up his roster spot in my opinion.

This damn depth chart is frustrating

DJ/Belcher – I really hope this depth chart means nothing. I would like to see DJ and Belcher on the 1st team. Yes Demorrio had 2 sacks but, I thought as a whole DJ and Belcher played much better in all phases. I thought they were sound against the run, played the pass well and got solid pressure on the QB. It was DJ (and Arenas) that pressured Kolb into throwing that Kendrick Lewis INT. Belchers and DJs plays may not always show up on the stat sheet but they had a positive affect on the field.

Shaun Smith – I’m not sure if you guys notcied but all 3 NT’s got some PT with the 1st team. In my opinion, Shaun Smith played the best. He was stout against the run. If I can recall correctly, Shaun Smith caused three short yardage plays (2nd/3rd and short) to fail. He ate up double teams and stood his ground. I also saw him running up and down the line, making tackles near the sideline. I would really like to see Shaun Smith as our starting NT with Ron Edwards rotating in to keep him fresh.

Jon McGraw – I realize that he is the whillie vet and Kendrick Lewis is the wet behind the ears rookie. That being said, I hope at some point Lewis gets the starting nod. He impressed me. Plays fast, kept to his responsibilities and was all over the field. Eventually he can pair up with Berry to round out our vastly improving secondary.

Am I crazy for suggesting a Williams/ DJ combo?

Why does it have to be Williams/Mays or DJ/ Belcher?

Both are Smallish and Haley Has Ruled that out

Haley doesnt like either as the SAM backer because they are both “pursuit” players and not guys that like to put their nose up in there and blow up a fullback.

Ok... I'm ready to run the 44!

Line – Hali, Dorsey, TJax, Studebaker
LBs – DJ, Mays, Belcher, Vrabel
Secondary – Flowers, Carr, Berry playing center-field

Let’s crack some skulls!

This is 2010

The Chiefs would be killed by any decent passing team.

by Tarkus on Aug 30, 2010 1:14 PM CDT up reply actions

Ha!

I should have put that whole thing in sarcasm font.

0% chance of us running the 44… this isn’t NCAA/Madden.

All this debate about what LB should be in and when made me decide to just throw them all on the filed together.

Be glad I didn’t recommend a 1-5-5 Nickel or the 46.

Heh :)

Sorry, my sarcasm detector needs recharging, I guess.

shaun needs to be starting at Nose Tackle or LE. Because he has outperformed Tyson at LE and Edwards at NT imo

Sadly Tyson was a 1st pick so Pioli would be swallowing oceans of pride to start Shaun Smith over him, even though it would be the right move
