Chiefs Swap Rookie Free Agents; OL Andrew Lewis Waived, LB John Russell Signed
The Chiefs made a roster move on Tuesday morning.
They waived rookie free agent OL Andrew Lewis.
Lewis was signed as a rookie free agent this offseason. He spent some time on the third team at center.
Taking his spot is LB John Russell.
Russell was signed to the Packers as a rookie free agent this offseason. Here's a little more on Russell from the Chiefs release:
Russell (6-4, 280) originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with Green Bay in 2010. He played in 51 games (29 starts) at Wake Forest, recording 137 tackles, 19.0 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, an INT, a pass defensed, two fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles. Russell prepped at Bolles High School in Jacksonville, Florida, helping lead the team to a 14-0 record and the Florida 3A State Championship as a senior.
And the roster shuffle continues.

Wow
He is one big LB! Wonder if he has any talent?
My bold prediction for 2010....The Chiefs win the AFC west with a 9-7 record, while the Chargers fall off, Denver remains the same, and Oakland, well enough said.

He'll likely be lighter after training camp.
Chiefs probably feel better about C, right now, than they do about rush LB. This is the kind of roster-churning move I would hope and expect to see, based on the need for PUSH from both OLB spots.
Sounds like maybe Walters isn’t measuring-up?

"Oh? So what exactly are you lying about?"
It would seem no other OLB is really stepping up to take away Vrabels spot
Which may not be a bad thing. Walters/Stude/Sheffield/now Russell hopefully there is someone in there that can get some pressure opposite of Tamba

no joke...was just scanning his bio, and I see "280 LBS"...hes a big freaking linebacker
Team Pioli/Haley. Decade of the Chiefs.
Team Colquitt
he is, this guy cant play ILB, hes 280 lbs, no way
Team Pioli/Haley. Decade of the Chiefs.

Big front seven
In New England Pioli’s Patriots had fairy massive outside linebackers. Vrabel and Studebaker are in the 260s and Tamba’s listed at 275, why not a 280 OLB to back up Hali?
I know it's a typo
But “fairy massive outside linebackers” is cracking me up right now. Or I’m cracking myself up because of it.
I just keep picturing huge hulking dudes on the field in Patriots uniforms with a tutu on and limp-wristing their way around the O Line to slap at the QB.
I should probably start back on coffee.
Chiefs - back in the playoffs in 2011.
My Sentiments Exactly...
was LMAO at a different though, but now can only picture the tutu and limp-wristed slaps at the QB’s hiny.
2010 Chiefs are on the rise. This is the most excited I've been since 'Nam...

Pierre Walters vs. John Russell
One big LB in exchange for another who has been cast off to the injury zone (Mystery Zone)
well, I have one word about Lewis: who?
… and one word about Russell: who?
thanks for the updates, Joel … be interesting to see if we ever hear more of Russell ,… or Lewis for that matter … the fun continues

Whitlock Rocks!
hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
once again they proved me wrong
I had some hope for Lewis
this should be the most exciting Chiefs team in years! Most major needs filled with playmakers, and the league's best coaching staff... 10-6 a possibility?
Wondered if I'd hear from you on this. You put Lewis on my radar, the other day.
I think the Chiefs are pretty well-stocked on interior O-Line at this point.
I know Crennel’s been watching the d-line a lot in this camp. Maybe he’s looking for more push from the LOLB, same as I am. A bigger/stronger ’tweener on that side would allow the front 3 to actually stick to business between the tackles. If they can control the middle, pressure is IMMEDIATELY eased on the ILBs, and guys like DJ can really flourish.
While this is just a late pickup of a reject UDFA, it still points toward an issue I’ve been harping about (and why I wanted Brandon Graham, for instance).

This is year is so much brighter
I remember last year checking each one of these posts of who we dropped and picked up. Thinking of how much we needed to find a diamond in the rough. This year I hardly pay attention to them. Maybe it just my bright outlook, but I think it speaks of how much more stable we are this year.
Thought Lewis might make the PS with his versatility
Not that it is a huge deal.
