Chiefs Training Camp: Ryan Lilja Gets A Break, Rudy Niswanger Fills In At Right Guard
The Kansas City Chiefs have a few offensive linemen missing so it caused them to do some mixing and matching at Monday afternoon's practice.
Guards Darryl Harris and Ryan Lilja sat out as did offensive tackle Barry Richardson.
With Lilja missing from the first team, the Chiefs slid Rudy Niswanger over to right guard. In place of Niswanger at center, they put Casey Wiegmann with the first team.
As Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com points out, Niswanger spent some time as a reserve guard with the Chiefs in 2007. He also started at least one game along every spot on the offensive line for LSU.
Jon Asamoah was banged up in the Atlanta Falcons game so maybe that's why Niswanger got the nod over him.
There's no word of a Lilja injury. My guess would be that it's just a veteran getting a day off.

Chambers
I went to camp tonight. Pretty good. Anyone else hear Chambers get into it with coach Mo after a drop saying “don’t talk to me Mo.” Mo responded by yelling that he will talk to him whenever he wants.

Hallalujeh
This is the lineup they should look at.
We need to find one of those Center/Guards from recent drafts to backup Wiegman and let Niswanger be that stud RG that he will be
Ninja Ass
Yup
Seems that necessity forces this coaching staff to look at things the way us fans do. Wonder why the hell that’s always the case. hmmm.
Braccae illae virides cum subucula rosea et tunica Caledonia-quam elenganter concinnatur!
Well, it's A lineup that's been mentioned.
I definitely like the smaller center sided by bigger guards. I could live with Waters and Lilja splitting time at LG, and Asamoah maybe pushing for time at C and RG.
"I ain't lyin' 'bout nothin'."
"Oh? So what exactly are you lying about?"
Yeah
J.Asomoah is just 6-4 305, he might be a little taller than i would like at C but i like the way their mixing it up, trying to find the right combination of players.

Asamoah is also a higher-rated interior lineman than Niswanger coming out of college.
Just sayin’… When change is needed, it’s good to see some changes, even if you aren’t sure they’ll pay off. You just know that doin’ what you’re doin’ ain’t gonna get it done.
"I ain't lyin' 'bout nothin'."
"Oh? So what exactly are you lying about?"
Agreed
I just have a great feeling about this kid Asomoah, it going to be fun watching him grow as a player for this team. Getting T.Moeaki healthy to help out on our right side of the line will be good too.

So far it looks like they're more interested in the TE in the pattern than in giving O'Call direct help.

Hopefully as this pre-season goes on O'Call starts showing more signs of improvement.
But it would help if they had the TE at least give that DE a hit as he comes off the line. I’ll have to watch for that in our next game.

OCall is fine, but TE help would be smart
I think KC FINALLY has 3 TE that can block, gotta use em
this should be the most exciting Chiefs team in years! Most major needs filled with playmakers, and the league's best coaching staff... 10-6 a possibility?

Well
that might be the case because AP runs through almost every possible scenario, both serious and sarcastic, so it’s no surprise that we say something like that and the coaches follow up.
Big Gulps EH????? All right.....Welp....See Ya Later!
Buck, regarding the coaches view of things ...

maybe because we’re smarter than they are?

So Pioli didn't address the positions you thought he should, who cares, I know i don't.
Playing GM on Madden is easy, but this is real life, you can’t just pick or get who you want. Pioli brought in C.Weigmann, and R.Lilja to help with our offensive line and then got J.Asomoah the second best guard taken in the draft. Pioli also signed T.Jones for quality depth at RB, and IMO helps this team alot. Then he picked these players in the draft
E.Berry- The best safety taken in the draft.
D.McCluster- The slot WR with explosive play making ability, which we haven’t had in a long time.
J.Arenas- The second best returner in college ever, and he fills to position KR/PR, and Nickel CB.
T.Moeaki- the best blocking TE in the draft to help with the o-line, and he also has good hands.
C.Sheffield- A pass rushing OLB.
K.Lewis- more depth at Safety, and could be starting before the years over.
IMO he address several needs and did a damn good job at it, considering 5 or 6 of these guys could be starting before the years over.

who said the OLine is getting an overhaul?
so one guy is out for a day … your point?
what, you want to toss in an untested rookie who has yet to learn the moves and blocking assignments? sure, you do that … oh, you want an over-the-hill free agent who just got dumped by another team? wow, gee … been there done that last year, some guy named Goff, maybe you remember him, didn’t work out too well, huh

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
I agree
Maybe they will be able to pull it together by the MNF game.. We need to trade page.. Page for a linemen, sooner rather than later..

We REALLY need him to sign his damn tender and get on the field.

THAT's not happening.
Page is history. It’s just a question on what, if anything, we get back. His stupidity sealed his fate here. At this point he’d be behind every safety on the roster except, “maybe”, Dujuan Morgan.
