Could the Lions scoop up DaJuan Morgan?

Much has been made of the injury to Detroit Lion safety Louis Delmas. The popular opinion around here is that we trade Jarrad Page to the Lions for a middle round pick.

But with DaJuan Morgan currently running with the 3rd team he looks vulnerable in deep and talented backfield. Could Detroit simply scoop him up off the waiver wire if we cut him?

Star-divide

Arrowhead Pride members with far more spare time at work have combed training camps around the league looking for possible last-minute additions to the Chiefs 2010 roster.

I've heard lot of names mentioned as possible pickups who didn't make other teams.

Guys like:

Eagles linebackers Tracy White and Jamar Chaney

Jets fullback Tony Richardson

Dolphins quarterback Tyler Thigpen

Buccaneers wide receiver Michael Clayton

But could other teams do the same to us? Of course. One scenario has a safety needy team like Detroit snapping up DaJuan Morgan if he got cut. The best player they have at FS after Louis Delmas is Randy Phillips, an undrafted defensive back out of the University of Miami. Here's how his college stats compare to our own DaJuan Morgan.

College stats can't tell the whole story here. But it gives you pause as to whether we really have the upper hand in a potential Jarrad Page trade.

If Pioli can't get it done then Gunther Cunningham can wait to see what other players are available. Considering we drafted DaJuan with a 3rd rounder when Gun was around you'd think he'd at least consider him for a plan B.

Do we even have any other bubble players that other teams would consider worth signing?

Fan Question!

LOL

Winning begins with Attitude - Haley and Pioli will be winners in KC!

I'll forever be a Chiefs fan! Only God himself could take that away from me, but when I get to my great reward, I'll rejoin two bigger fans, my Mom and Dad.

this one actually doesn't bother me

there are pictures and stats… have seen a lot worse

this should be the most exciting Chiefs team in years! Most major needs filled with playmakers, and the league's best coaching staff... 10-6 a possibility?

by stagdsp on Aug 16, 2010 5:53 PM CDT up reply actions

I think it is a good possibility.

Morgan has some talent. I just don’t think he is a fit for us or the scheme we run. He has a much better shot at fulfilling his potential somewhere else. Perhaps that is Detroit or it could be somewhere else.

I would definitely like to take a look at Tracy White and Jamar Chaney and also Michael Clayton. They might be a fit here. I’d pass on Thigpen. As much as I like Tony Richardson I have to wonder if he even has anything left in the tank. He’s getting a little long in the tooth.

As for possible bubble players, I think we have a few. Morgan is one of them and I think Lance Long would also get some looks. Could be some others as well that I hope go to the practice squad if they don’t make the team. Players like Garrett Brown and Jefferey Fitzgerald and Justin Cole (even though I am still a little miffed at him for the holding call. lol. I hope he learned something). Probably some more I may have left out.

KC's bubble players, IMO

TE Banks
RB Battle
OL Eastman
WR Grimes
WR Gunnell
WR Horne
OL Jeanpierre
WR Lawrence (though, I be he makes the team)
WR Long (somehow i still think he makes it)
RB Moore
OL Ndukwe
TE O’Connell (he’ll make it, too)
QB Palko
OL Santucci
TE Slate
WR Tucker
RB Williams
DB Bates
NT Brown
DB Daniels
OLB Cole
DE Fitzgerald
DL Gales
DL Greenwood
LB Greenwood
LB Herron
S Langford
DB Leggett
NT Lokey (he’ll make the 53)
S Morgan
S Page (haha)
DB Price
DB RIchardson
OLB Russell
OLB Walters (probably makes it)
DB Washington (he’ll make it)

that’s 37 players

My guess is 7-10 of them make the 53 or PS
the rest get cut, and probably don’t get much interest from other teams

I hope Moore makes it

He made some mental mistakes, but you can’t teach tackle-breaking and burst…

I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.

Nice job Stag

I hope we keep Langford and Gales.
I do like McGraw but I would rather keep an up and comer over A ST stud.
That we could call back if we need him.
Pioli has to look at the possibilities of guys that could be non-roster backups that we can stash for when we need them. The Patriots used to do that.

I've been itching to do a 53 man roster

it’s a very interesting excercise to try and figure out how many to keep at each position, etc.

Well let me encourage it then

Aug 28th is the cut to 75 I think
Sept 4th the final 53
Interesting if you put MCluster as a RB or a WR.
Arenas as a specialist or a DB.
Will Greenwood stick as a backup LS
then you have Shaun Smith as a DE not a NT

Randy Phillips has been very impressive in preseason for the Lions

He’s been all over the place making plays. It looks like Phillips may have nailed down the other starting safety spot next to Louis Delmas. I was open to a trade for Page, but the window of opportunity may be closing fast, or already closed. The Lions might not need Page now.

"We lost!" Delmas yelled at reporters. "What you want? What you got to ask me?"
Delmas stared at reporters defiantly.

Morgan?

Well we will know soon. I would hope for compensation in some fashion.
Even if it is only Compensatory Picks.
How much do you love Morgan? Are you going to provide a fine contract.
Maybe a bottle of Irish Whiskey to seal the deal?

How about a 6-pack of Bud Light?

It’s better than Thunderbird or Night Train.

I like Morgan. He’s an athletic safety of similar size to Delmas, the type of player Schwartz prefers. He’d be a good fit in Schwartz’s “interchangable Left-Right safety” scheme.

However, Morgan remains a possibility off waivers.......as a backup

The Lions secondary depth is atrocious right now, especially at safety. Morgan would potentially make an excellent backup.
