Kansas City Chiefs Unveil Lamar Hunt Statue At Arrowhead Stadium
Just moments ago, Norma Hunt unveiled the Lamar Hunt statue at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, MO. In addition to the Chiefs' office personnel, Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt and NFL commish Roger Goodell were present.
The nine foot tall statue is the centerpiece of the Founder's Plaza at the New Arrowhead Stadium.
A worthy tribute for a very worthy man. Joel will have more on this in a bit.

Very nice. Much deserved for the man that started it all for us Chiefs fans.
Yeah, let's just keep matriculatin' the ball down the field, boys! ...
Now...
we should start a ritual of laying a horse head at his feet before every Bronco game.
(just kidding)
It should be the whole horse.

I already have Tom Green on the phone.
Go Chiefs!!!!
Too bad
Things like this have to be done after someone dies. He deserved it while he was with us.
Would have been too weird that way though.
We’re gonna miss him.

You really like Lamar would have allowed that?
I think the timing has more to do with the renovations than it does his death.

Very cool tribute to a great man.
10 + wins in 2010. Chiefs SHOCK the NFL!!! Mark it down.
for those of you with poor eyes, one side to the statue reads......
A MAN OF VISION
After watching the 1958 National Football League Championship Game on television, Lamar Hunt recognized the tremendous potential for professional football in the United States. When the NFL refused to expand, Hunt founded the American football league in 1959, introducing professional football to fans in new parts of the country. Hunt’s vision led to the AFL-NFL merger, the creation of the Super Bowl, and helped secure professional football’s place as America’s game.
I really like how they are emphasizing KC's (and Lamar Hunt's) stature in the history of the NFL with the renovations.
It will go a long way to add to the historical ‘aura’ of Arrowhead, which you don’t get with most modern stadiums. Just wish they’d had the foresight 40 years ago to build the stadiums closer to downtown.
Predictions:
This year will be better
We're luck to have them here at all.

When the stadiums were built...
they were very close to the vibrant part of town. 63rd and Prospect was once the spot and is only a mile or so from the stadium. But forced segregation killed that neighborhood. I still love that part of town, killer old buildings, and the best garage sales in town.
