The Changing of the Guard

hmmmm…..Arrowheadpride is now the only place I go for Chiefs news. ….The reason why I enjoyed this site is from the continuity of the readers. When I first started reading it, which was six months before I joined, many of the posters put a lot of quality research into their posts. Granted it was a much smaller community 2 years ago.
     Lets draw a comparison to the academic world. It takes years to establish credibility and a repoire with established people. AP is similar that we have grown very large which is a credit to the Thormans, but when you have an influx of people usually quality will go down. The “Old Blood” remembers the quality this site has had in its past and we want to ensure the quality remains. If you look at my profile I dont comment or post much. Not due to a alck of intelligence or time but I hold myself to a high standard and this community to that same standard.
    It takes time to become a poster that will solicite quality responses. If you decide to stay and which I hope you do everyone had the growing pains that you may have experienced. Everyone was a rookie at one time…

old guard? well, I’m OLD but I’ve only been on this blog for a year … many comments, a few posts (some even pretty decent if I do say so myself) … that said, it takes time to “be accepted” … not accepted in terms of being “allowed to post” as we ALL have that priveledge (thank you, Joel and Chris) but accepted in terms of others getting to know you and your personality (or mine or anyone else’s)

see, some people come in and say things that are, shall we say, outside of the general mainstream of the AP Body Politic (ie, super bash this or that, or super props for this or that) … anytime someone (anyone!) is WAY out there, then they should pretty much expect to get laced with opposing arguments … and after all, the give and take, yin and yang, back and forth is what it’s all about

we ALL have opinions, and those opinions are just that: opinions … everyone here is entitled to their own opinion (even those who disagree with mine and are, therefore, wrong by defintion … I’m a forgiving soul and realize not everyone can be right ALL the time, except myself, of course)

bottom line: it takes time to “fit in” … and longer for those who don’t at least TRY to weave their way into the fabric of the blog … if one constantly tries to swim upstream it DOES get tiring, but such is the life of a salmon

when I started out here a year ago I was pretty much slamming Haley, Pioli and a lot fo their supporters … as such I got slammed back, so be it … but I also gave props where I thought they were earned and deserved, and in time more people noticed that I wasn’t JUST slamming, that I had something intelligent to say … that ended up leading to more conversation, more give and take on a variety of things … that’s how it goes, it takes time, kid

come on man, you just have to take your licks like everyone else. Dont take stuff so personal, this is suppost to be a “bar room” atmosphere. I have gotten into several debates and some of them heated on here but still came back for more. I dont think you meant to go about slamming AP but personally calling out Joel and Chris and telling them to just have the old guard here is outragious. If you want to leave then leave, Im sure no one wants anyone to leave but either way its not going to make a difference.

1. Not everyone is friendly.
That’s part of life. Dick heads are everywhere. Especially on the internet.

2. Certain bloggers only respond when “other” certain bloggers post or respond something.
Really? I have not noticed this. Granted, if someone posts a tired old thought that has been hashed, rehashed and beaten to death, people that frequent the site likely aren’t going to keep responding to the same thing over and over.

3. You can have a good post, but its usually a post trying to draw emotion out of you (sob story) that gets the “Old Blood” pumping (recs).
Examples please? Some of the most popular posts in the last week can be seen here . The top three are well thought out posts that sparked some interesting thoughts.

4. The “Old Blood” believes that “We” (newbies) are meant to be seen and not heard.
I think you’re taking The_Truths post “You’re a Newb…” out of context or something.

5. There are alot of people out there lonely on Friday nights.
This is true.

6. EGO’S live & thrive here.

As I’m sure you’ve noticed, we pretty much allow the community to police itself. I view it as an organic being, ever growing and ever changing. I appreciate the high level of conversation around this topic.

Usually it takes someone like me saying he has no use for soccer to get this kind of response.

That I can’t stand. He also seems to comment out of nowhere with disrespect. No, I won’t name this person.

Hell I love all you guys, even the first guy on here that named me AP’s Ass Clown! This is definately a “bar atmosphere” and if you get upset with someone one day, you can come back and be friends the next!

Some of the best “debates” ever were UCrawford and ChiefDJ, you’d have thought they hated each other, but they respected each others opinions and left the debate on the field.

I welcome anybody to comment or post cause it sure beats the hell out of anything I have to say! LOL

Did someone hurt your feelings? If you have a problem with someone not replying to your comments or posts, make better comments and posts. TRUTH’s whole Noob post wasn’t to put down new posters, it was a way for the elders to have a laugh at past posts/posters/comments.

So what do you mean by the changing of the guard? WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU WANT? Only have ppl comment that have been around less than a year? Ok dude…actually posts like this are reasons you are slowly getting your way.

If people aren’t responding to your post then it’s probably just not interesting enough. And, if you’re mad that those folks aren’t responding to you then you are making them too important to you in the first place which seems in opposition of the point you think you are trying to make.

I’ve been around awhile…dont post often….but I never felt like a noob…..peeps always treated me fair….called me out when they thought my opinion was wrong and gave me rec’s when they agreed with me…..thats what this is….a place to voice opinions about our favorite team.

I can understand how you feel about people not responding to what you post on here, cause it’s definitely happened to me many times. I think some people on this site have more free time to blog and get to know each other. My schedule doesn’t allow me the luxury.

It’s all good though. Regardless of how “intelligent” people think your posts are, and regardless if they deem you worthy of a response, you are still a Chiefs fan man. That shit takes dedication and it is the common bond we at AP have.

If you know you love the Chiefs as much as anybody on here, then don’t give a damn about them at all. Just keep repping the team, and comment as you feel the need. If somebody wants to respond that’s cool. If not, oh well. You’ll find your niche man……..

I have to agree with many others posting here in that your experience reflects the nature of the internet in general.

This is the best place for Chiefs news and discussion you will find anywhere. AP is moderated consistently and fairly, and you can’t ask for much more than that.

My only observation concerning what is deemed a “good post” here seems to have direct correlation with how much the author “spoonfeeds” the information. Don’t assume everyone follows all the posts here. Quite frankly, don’t assume anything. This leads to the same topics being beaten into the ground frequently, and people chiming in about how they “already said that,” but I guess that is better than everyone thinking you’re psycho.

Of course correct grammar, spelling and the use of real words will help your cause, but take the time to explain your thoughts – even those that should speak for themselves. I’m personally learning to get better at this, because I’m a small-town boy who believes anyone who loves the Chiefs is already on the same page; unfortunately, this isn’t the reality of things.

about the “new” old guard or the “old” old guard, or perhaps even the old guard “newbies”, or the baby newbie, newbies. Newbie, newbie, new…….“exchanging glance, lovers in the night”………….now that is from Frank Sinatra. Frank is the old guard of the pop singers, and the Sons of Leon are the new guard of poop singers. Now wait, I forget, what was I talking about?…………………..

and I make the 30th different poster on this thread. Hardly just a couple old roosters ruling the hen house. Look. I’ve only been on AP a year or so and I’ve found it to be the best Chiefs related site so far. Joel has commented on some of my post before as well as Chris. I think they do a really good job with help of the Editors and Contributors (which are listed at the bottom of this page). Thanks to all the gang for their efforts. As far not getting great reviews on your posts, I don’t know, some of my posts have gotten nothing, some have gotten witty responses, some a little more harsh. Maybe it depends on the time of day, or day of the week your posts are done on. To be honest there have been times when I don’t even bother reading some posts because they’re too researched, in other words, too long, but when I do get the time to read them, I find them insightful. But just because they’re insightful doesn’t mean I have anything good to add to the discussion and I don’t post anything. I hope you stick around because ultimately we’re all here for the same reason, we love talking Chiefs football. Here’s to a great season and future seasons! GO CHIEFS!!!!!
