Chiefs Coach Has Been Getting Reports On Dwayne Bowe's Progress

PrintChiefs coach Todd Haley talked at length today with 810 WHB's Soren Petro about the offseason, Matt Cassel's development and his working relationship with Charlie Weis.
He also touched on Dwayne Bowe, who has been one of the more sensitive subjects this offseason.
As we noted, Bowe spent some time up at Larry Fitzgerald's camp this month with current and former NFL players. One of those former players, Cris Carter, said "some people in Kansas City as far as their administration kind of knew I was going to be here."
It sounds like that someone in the Chiefs organization was Todd Haley.
"I know [Bowe has] had a really good last three weeks working out," Haley said. "He's been up with a former player of mine in Larry Fitzgerald. I've been getting reports back daily for the last couple of weeks and I think, as I said, he had a better offseason than he had last year. I expect him to be one of those young players that takes a step this year."
Bowe was also doing some work with Rich Gannon so it seems the Chiefs will have some expectations for him when he returns for camp.

I'm so past that ESPN comment....
Bowe is really gifted physically, he just needs to get his hands figured out.
One thing that might help Bowe’s game is the addition of McCluster. If he is lining up between Bowe and Chambers, then the defense will be forced to compensate and this will create mismatches for the opposing nickel cornerbacks, LBs, and safeties.
It might actually open Bowe up more if he is working against single coverage.

if DMC is in the slot on the same side of the field as Bowe, the defense will be forced to either use the safety to help the LB on DMC, or switch to the nickel – and even then, the safety will have a hard time choosing between DMC and Bowe
Ryan Succop will be the kicker for the AFC in the 2011 Pro Bowl
And while the safety is trying to figure that out...
Cassel to Chambers for a first down!!! Or, Jamal Charles on the draw for 10 yds!!! Or, Thomas Jones up the gut for a few!!!
I don't think it's his hands, it's his focus
He has good hands, as evidenced by all the tough catches he makes in traffic. His biggest problem seems to be the times he has room to run after the catch. He probably starts thinking about what he’s going to do after he makes the catch and loses focus on actually making the catch first.
Growth
Sometimes all it takes is a few bad decisions to shake a person into growth. I hope that is the case with Bowe. Something just short of Full Metal Jacket in terms of focus would be nice. Hope the players didn’t get out the soap filled socks over the importing thing.
From that photo ... I'm not sure if Bowe is really no HOMO?
