Not too bad
I’d still say Page is too high. And Pope. The mid 70s is usually where you can dip into Free Agency and get someone even better instantly.

Watching the 2009-2010 Chiefs 12 hours ahead of you (in Taipei, Taiwan).
Twittering my every move. Don't act like you're not even slightly interested.
Maybe in Madden
Because you would emphasize pass catching and speed but for the Chiefs, I think Pope is OK.

I think Pope is ok too.
If anything Page should be between 70 & 75 (he really set himself back last season)

Go figure.
Charles, Flowers and Hali are all to low. We can’t even get any 90+ love for our studs.
Page won’t even be on the team.

Not saying Tamba should be a 90...
But I don’t think it would be crazy to make him an 89. Charles should definitely be a 90 or higher. Flowers could stand to be at 90 too.

We'll just have to wait til the season is in full gear...
If EA freakin’ stays on top of their updates, we could see a lot of our guys getting up in the Ratings. Charles will get in the 90’s (at least 91). Tamba needs a very productive year to get into the 90’s. With a couple of picks and big plays I see Berry and Flowers getting into the 90’s. They’re close as it is.
I know that you're afraid... you're afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin.
That's a great question
I was thinking Demorrio and DJ should each be 77-78, and Hali about an 84-85. I figured Charles and Jones would each be just below 90, but with high potential for Charles to move up rapidly. I think Chambers is a better WR than Bowe at this point.
I think the place they’re spot-on is with the defensive linemen.
There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

Whoopty-effin-doo.
So when you can’t convert a first down (because your offense is rated pretty damn low, IMO) at least you know you can pin ’em deep with your punter… and then defend them with a sub-par defense.
I gotta tell ya, I was planning on buying this one. But come on. EA couldn’t give us one 90+ player to use. I’m not sure that’s fair, or accurate.

I dont own a copy of Madden yet
I just bought a PS3 a couple months ago and have been waiting for this game ever since, so it will be a must-buy for me. I hope R2J_24 is right though, that EA will update some of the ratings once the season gets rolling.

I Agree
How can so many people say that Flowers has Pro Bowl potential this year and call him a 85? Rediculous!
I think Tamba Hali started out as a 65 last year and EA moved him up about 20 points in the updates, they are still missing the ball. Hali was a Pro Bowl Caliber player last year! High 80’s at the least.
Charles, I am OK with, so long as they got his speed and quickness right.
Carr is way too low, Should likely be a couple of points below where Flowers is now.
Dorsey and Jackson might be a couple of points low, but not too much… Relatively, Edwards is too high…
Also
Albert is too low, should be mid 80’s
What I really do not get is McCluster, if everyone thought he was one of the top playmakers in the country last year and has incredible ability, why is he not rated way higher. The only knock on him was size, which by the way there is no penalty for in the game, so how could he be so low? I bet $1 Million Bucks that if the Eagles had picked him right after us, his Rating would be 15 Points Higher! Guarenteed!
He's a rookie
Rookies never get rated that high, if you look at his individual stats he’s the fastest, has the best acceleration, best agility, and second best hands on the team. He’ll make a huge jump in the second year of franchise mode as will Berry and Asamoah
These seem reasonable..
Maybe a shave off or put on by 3 points or so for some of the guys but it definately gets me excited for August.
I hate waiting.
by WMR on Jul 1, 2010 10:17 AM CDT via mobile reply actions
How does the star of your offense being rated an 87 get you excited?
I kind of wanted to get Madden ‘11, but come on. They didn’t give us a single player that could whoop a teams ass on his own… even though Jamaal showed a few times last year that he could do that.

Well, just like people were saying about the FOX Top 100 Players
Jamaal just needs to show his consistency. If he prooves to be a Chris Johnson, then expect him to be in the 91-95 range.
I know that you're afraid... you're afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin.
Consistency?
He has an NFL career YPC over 5. So for two years, every time he’s touched the ball he’s gained (on average) half a first down. He came in last year and totally kicked ass for what, 8 games, accumulating Chris Johnson type numbers. He BROKE the Chiefs freaking franchise record for rushing yards… against a division rival. What does this guy have to do to get some respect? Capture Osama Bin Laden?

Madden should do a throwback game...
Madden ’89.
Bo Jackson could have a 560 rating, Okoye could have a 490, the REAL LT could have 1546, and DT could have a modest 16000
If he leads the league in rushing like Chris Johnson he'll get the recognition
You can’t play the small market card when comparing KC to Nashville.
Predictions:
This year will be better
Oh I wouldn't worry too much about it
Madden rankings are pretty much always based on what everyone thought in the second half of the previous season.
They’re too busy finishing the game to really keep up with training camps and all that. There will always be some pretty awful injustices in every Madden release because people who don’t / can’t / won’t follow every team as closely as their devout fans will, are assigning things values based solely on a handful of numeric values – against attributes which often aren’t really physically measurable.
In a couple more years, using the Chiefs in Madden (2013!) will be like playing on easy mode. Til then, we just have to realize that the ratings will lag behind.
The Chiefs in Madden 2011 are going to look (numerically) like the real chiefs did against the Browns, Cowboys, etc last year.
In the meantime, it feels good knowing something about this team that they don’t. =)
Chiefs - back in the playoffs in 2011.
See comment below about hiring 32 people and assigning each of them a team to follow.
It doesn’t seem like something that should be a problem… unless you’re too freaking cheap to fork out the couple hundred thousand required to pay the “scouts” (Which will come back to you ten-fold from sales).

Nah, it'd be silly to invest that kind of money into something like that
When it’s a complete and total crapshoot trying to guess about an athlete’s abilities and assign them a numerical in-game rating.
Plus consider the context.
There are only so many top-rated players in the game, the vast majority have to be ‘average’, so that there is – well – an average, that the top players can stand out against.
I believe in Jamaal as much as anyone here. But his ridiculous breakout games were against terrible run defenses, an argument that has been brought up as a counterpoint by a lot of analysts. I’m pretty confident about his ability to tear through good defenses too, but he hasn’t had the opportunity to do it yet.
So based purely on facts, the high 80’s rating is probably pretty reasonable given the info they have go do.
Same could be said about most of the ratings. Our beloved Chiefs have been awful for the last three years. Several 90+ guys (in game terms) would make the team play well outside of what we, in all reality, have been.
So then the fans of the other 31teams are alienated because the 2-14 / 4-12 Chiefs are beating up on everyone when they, in all honest, shouldn’t.
Maybe just mellow out a bit about some silly arbitrary video game numerical ratings. Then once the regular season kicks in and the players are playing above those ratings, they get adjusted by EA as the season goes on. So there’s nothing to worry about.
Unless they really do play like crap again for another season (which I doubt), and then they won’t have to bother making adjustments.
Chiefs - back in the playoffs in 2011.
Oh how I desire an edit feature.
“..given the info they have go do” should obviously be “…given the info they have to go on”.
Coffee must’ve worn off at that point. o.O
Chiefs - back in the playoffs in 2011.
Weigman is pretty solid.
I think Albert is low becase he was one of the LTs at the bottom of most sacks allowed last season. By LT terms, he’s right where he should be, unless he prooves otherwise.
I know that you're afraid... you're afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin.

And assign one person to “scout” a particular team, making sure the roster is correct and getting the low down on the up and coming players for that team.

You looking at a good
3 million a year to employ 32 people once you include salary and other benefits. I guess they could contract out an maybe get it cheaper. I would agree that EA should put more effort into evaluting personnel ( at least have one person per division), but until they have serious competition (I.e. Their exclusivity deal with NFL ends) we won’t see that.

That's what pisses me off about EA
They REALLY don’t pay attention to what teams are REALLY doing. If they knew Chiefs football, they’d easily see that DeMarrio was a weak link (along with Mays). How in the hell would he be rated higher than Tamba? I understan Vrabel (age), but Tamba. C’mon now.

So check lol. Second, it is a video game, and just like the media the Chiefs never get a lot of spotlight or credit. This isn’t news. I’m an avid Madden fan who plays year around right up until the new one comes out. IMO these ratings are decent. Yeah, they could be better. But EA does update throughout the season. If we play well I’m sure a bunch of our stars will jump into the next decade if they’re already close.

Personally i wish NFL 2K still made games. Im tired of the constant glitches on Madden
*You cant throw a deep ball with out the ball stopping and changing direction. Its like an imaginary wall
*The blockers will sometimes just sit there without making contact with a blitzer
*Flowers should be a 87, Bowe a 86, DJ a 82, Tamba a 88.
I hate the constant screen pass users.
The nano blitz is ridiculous.
Fortunately I learned how to be both. But there are so many crappy glitches in the game. AI blocking is so junky.
The worst thing I get is when a DT (300 + pounds) covers a WR and even in some cases gets a pick. Dumb!

Yeah
Unfortunately, it’s currently the best game in town.
And anytime someone starts to make a better product, EA just buys them out.
Chiefs - back in the playoffs in 2011.
No
It’s the ONLY game in town because EA has exclusive rights with the NFL. I really hope they don’t renew and we can get the 2K games back. It will provide variety for the fans and force EA to step up their game. They don’t have any competition to worry about now.

Carr
72 is awful, I feel like 75 at least for a 2 year starter.
Hali should be an 85 If for no other reason than his pas rushing prowess.
If O’Callahan is a 76 then Albert is at least an 80.
Vrabel better have awareness off the chart.
Charles a 95 speed.
T Jones an 80+ strength.
Croyle’s injury rating should by off the chart…like negative. (semi-joking)
Brian Waters should be a 99 in labor negotiations. (semi-serious)
O’Callahan’s Irish rating should be 100.
(100% serious)
Glenn Dorsey should be top Cajun seafood eating rating in league…Jackson a close 2nd. 90+ rating for both.
Cassel and Croyle a 99 in the hot, young wife category.

If I ever need to be another team
I’d go with the Ravens or the Pats (only because I love their throwback uniforms)
I know that you're afraid... you're afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin.
I could play the ravens
pretty much teams that i respect either for history or becuase they have players and coaches that i admire..or both

Ravens D is wicked.
Jets D is so hard to move the ball on if the player knows how to play them.

I would have to say that if I play 10 guys in 1 week....
7 of them quit on me.

That's respectable.
I love playing guys who use different teams for a change. Always playing the Steelers, Vikings, Chargers, and Cowboys… Annoying.
And then the Saints won the Superbowl and suddenly I cant get away from guys who play as the Saints. Dumb.

For sure,
It also comes in handy with those stratigic military/war games. I’m not a fan of those but ALOT of people are.
Word.
I dont get into the war games too much
I enjoy more of the role players rather than the FPS…I will have to look at them next time I head out to Best Buy

I picked up a used copy of MotorStorm for $10 the other day...
Pretty sweet if you like crazy dirt/mountain tracks on bikes, ATVs, cars, and even big ass semi trucks.
Word.
no racing games for me
I own Uncharted 2, Demon’s Souls, Dragon Age:Origins, and Red Dead:Redemption…soon Madden 11

Uncharted 2 was pretty good and I have been play Red Dead.... pretty good so far.
I have kinda been boycotting Madden for like 5 years but I think I will break down and buy it this year. Thank god for the updateable rosters.
Word.
Thats what I am hoping on
I am thinking about getting uncharted (1) just to get the back story, I loved UC2….heard they are making a movie of the first one…i think you could get a decent movie out of the second one too

Possibly the best football game ever.
My favorite play, the fake punt run. The play was supposed to go to the right, but I broke it to the left. Easy TD 98% of the time.
Speed is King in Madden
As with any of the Madden games all you have to look at is the “Speed” rating and “CAT” for the offense:
WR’s: Even though D. McCluster is rated 70 and Bowe is 84; McCluster has a SPD of 92 and CAT of 82 and Bowe has a SPD of 84 and CAT of 81? That makes McCluster my #2 or #1 WR! WTF Madden! The way I see it, you have Chamber/McCluster as your #1or #2 and Bowe as your #3 slot. Now we have a true deep treat. No more short to middle game.
RB’s: Jones and Charles = Thunder and Lightning, Jones for in between the tackles and Charles as the motion/spell/streak/dump back. Really everything will go through him. Even have both of them on the field at all times. Dual RB back field. Blocking for each other. They’ll never know if it’s run or pass.
TE’s: Should be no question… T. Moeaki SPD 81 and CAT 79? Meet your new BFF. In the Wii game I’m tired of Pope (SPD 75 and CAT of 74) catching in traffic trash all day and then in a PA, he’s wide open, YES!, I loft a big fat hoagie for a TD only to have it bounce off his head…. SIGH
I’m not at all offended with the rating… It makes it all that much more savory when I beat player who choose the super bowl players of that year, or the some other dominate team. It SHOULD be about what magic you can do with what you have. Putting the right people in the right place, creating a mismatch. Reading the D. Right?
I put my fastest receiver most times in the #3 WR spot or, slot receiver, unless he's got rather good, or above average hands.
Then on 3rd Down I’ll put in this year’s case, Charles and Jones in the backfield and if it’s short yardage hand it to Jones if it’s on a run. If it’s on pass I’ll have Jones block and Charles go to the flats. He’s usually always open under and gets the yards no problem wether it’s 10 yards or 3 yards.
Eric Berry for Rookie of the Year
2010 Kansas Chiefs Record Range of 8-8 to 10-6. Yes it's possible, Chiefs just have to perform and execute
Humm...
From these stats then the fastest would be McCluster and Q. Lawrence (CAT 64) :/ It would be better to have a “Hands” person in this spot since there are either going over the middle or as a out or post route. I still think Bowe would be better at this spot, he’s got he STR (79), CAT (81), and JMP (96).
I really wish that Madden would have WR’s to be able to be put into a RB slot. Talk about X-mas early. Jones, Charles, and McCluster … I think my head just exploded.
Uh, where's Kendrick Lewis?
That’s a pretty large omission, especially considering he might be one of our starting safeties on Opening Day.
Also, what in the hell is a Swagger rating for?
What impact could that possibly have on the video game? Excessive celebration penalties? Players getting fined? Increase in personal fouls against them?

To quote A Christmas Story...
A crummy commercial? Son of a bitch.
Old Spice paid EA to have a sponsored stat. Incredible. It has no effect on the actual game except that it will make high SWG players celebrate more often on the way to the endzone. Corporate prostitution at its ugliest.

Why don't they have...
a rating for Ho (HOS) slapping? or a DUI rating. It can be the pre game, mini-game. Keep your player out of trouble or they’ll get slapped with a suspension.
There's something to this, of course
I really think EA should incorporate “suspension” ratings—that is, a rating that would be assigned based on the likelihood that a player will end up suspended, with higher being better. Guys like Tamba Hali get a 99, while Jared Allen or Pacman get something in the 40s.

Yeah and the numbers you are using are from the last roster update
Wait until they play and the numbers should skyrocket
Agreed
These are just the starting ratings. If they go out there and produce like I know they will, their rating will improve. Madden 10 for example. Brandon Flowers started the season as like an over 77, ended the season as an overall 85… ( even though I believe he should be at least an 88 or 89…) He still got the rating he deserves. ALSO finally Hali is at least an 80. How is he not at least 85? this still blows my mind. Bullshit rating right there.
Yes!!
Dion Gales is on a video game…..Madden, nonetheless!!!
Go Gales!!
"One of the teams asked me a running back question," McCluster said. "They said when you have the ball, do you focus on the guy who's in front of you or the next guy.
"I told them 99% of the time, I'm going to make that first guy miss. Then, I'm onto the next."
Probably the least important ranking there is!
I know Madden is very popular, and that is fine. I don’t play it myself, nor any video games, so maybe I underestimate the importance of the ratings. In fact, I have learned to basically ignore any preseason ratings, even fantasy football, which I am active in. If you compare the ratings now, and at the end of the season, or next preseason, you see just how innaccurate most of them are. I think that the mental makeup of the team can’t be measured, and that is as important as the physical abilities of players. The coaching staff also isn’t given enough credit, in how a team should perform. It’s the intangibles that generally make a bad player, or team, into a successful one. The physical talent, in the league, is fairly close. All of the players have to be pretty good, to just be in the league. It’s their desire, their confidence, and their willingness to make their own achievements, secondary to the team’s, that can seperate the good from the great. Stats are overrated, as they may not accurately display the importance of an individual player, to the team he is on, and the role he may play.
There once was a man from Nantucket......Nevermind.
Interesting to me to see that they ALSO, see Williams and Johnson starting
at the two ILB positions, with Belcher and Mays providing the depth. I’ve been arguing that this should be the case all along….
Thanks for the vindication Madden.
