Taking A Look At Our Offseason Additions (Free Agency)
Shaun Smith 6-2 325 NT: Shaun Smith a six year veteran who is notoriously known for punching Brady Quinn, but, other then that I think Smith will we a solid starter or depth at nose tackle. If you look at his 2007 season where he started at nose tackle before Shaun Rodgers took over in 2008. In 2007 Shaun started 11 games, tallying up 62 tackles and 2 sacks. So if he does that this season as the favored starter I will be pretty happy.
Jerheme Urban 6-3 207 WR: Jerheme was a member of Todd Haley's 2008 Arizona Superbowl run, where that season he caught a average or below average for a slot receiver with 34 catches for 448 yards. Also, Urban was recently praised by Todd Haley for his work ethic and leadership.
Thomas Jones 5-10 212 RB: Thomas Jones was a veteran running back on a stacked, Jet rushing attack with Leon Washington,Shonn Greene and Jones. In my opinion, I think Thomas was a excellent pickup and will be a great tandem to Jamaal Charles. But, my only concern is that he needs a blocking fullback to be an explosive weapon because if you watch game tape most of his big plays came with Richardson blocking and opening holes for him.
Casey Wiegmann 6-2 285 C: Casey is a veteran center who can teach Niswanger how to play the center position and do it right. Another positive is that Casey has only missed 2 games in his entire career that amazing considering he is 36. I could see a positive season for Wiegmann this season.
Ryan Lilja 6-2 290 RG/LG/C: Two things Lilja brings to this team is a winning mentality after appearing in 2 Super bowls and versatility because Ryan can play all three positions inside. And also for the last two years we have had nightmares at right guard with Adrian Jones, and insert any name. I am looking forward to a big season from Lilja seeing that he is a Kansan and a proud Chiefs fan.
I know I missed some guys, but, all of the guys I missed where backups or journeymen.

I think..
Urban will have a bigger impact then we all expect. He is a big body for the middle of the field. Cassel won’t have trouble finding him.
Jamaal Charles...Enough said.
Agreed
But, i’m worried about his hands

Well....
I don’t see us getting a solid LB, NT, or FS for Bowe right now… and I don’t see T.O. doing ANYTHING to help us more than Bowe could anyway. I’ll be completely honest, you make it really honest for me to say either A. You’re kidding or B. You don’t know how this whole football thing works.
Why...is he missing some fingers or something?
Not his thumbs…he’s not missing his thumbs is he?

I've made the decision...
If his thumbs are missing….he’ll have to be traded immediately…..that’s all there is to it.

I was kidding I know TO will want
2-5 mill a year. But, then Bowe only makes 500,000 a year so I would take Bowe anyday.

TO will want more than 2-5mil a year
Believe the number floating around right now is 7

if Urban is so good why did we draft McCluster.
If we wanted a WR we should have drafted Tate.
Obviously Tate is not as great as ppl once thought
Considering how many times the team who needs wrs and just happens to have his former coach passed on him.

I was big on Tate as well. . . .
But something tells me McCluster running the Wildcat, playing RB and WR will bring even more to the Chiefs than Tate would. Like BAMF said there must be some reason we passed on him.

Pretty small backfield, and you wonder if either one could really lead-block convincingly for the other.
But just the ability to get from the middle to either or both edges FAST raises the blood pressure on the opposing D.
Assuming he’s healthy, grows a pair of hands, and learns to run routes, throwing Lawrence into that mix could be devastating. That’s a lot of speed to have on the field at the same time, especially when you’re either doubling or spending your best DB on Chambers.
Jamaal Charles insurance. 2-deep in thunder. 2-deep in lightning. With slot WR thrown in.
There were concerns raised about Tate’s ability to fight off the jam. A lot of teams passed on Tate, besides the Chiefs. And it sounds like McCluster will bring something special, assuming he can play at the next level…
Because because because because.....
because of the wonderful things he does.

All of these free agent acquisitions should see
playing time this season. if not, it is because they lost the competitive battle to play during the pre-season., but even so most will see action. This is their big opportunity.
"The Hammer"
I'm happy with the additions, though mostly because of Jones and Lilja
can’t see the other three having too much of an impact

Actually, the only thing I know for sure......
Is that I don’t know nothing.

Urban might bring a little somethin'.
Falling off the WR bubble in AZ isn’t necessarily an indictment. Nor necessarily an endorsement.
a little, no doubt ... I think McCluster will bring more, certainly in terms of speed and giving opposing D's something to think about
Weigmann I love, ane I can see him doing a lot of “coaching” which would help Rudy N a lot (unless he actually wins the job outright, but at his age don’t expect TOO much)
Urban some help, perhaps … at least good for practices, etc
Smith I have some major concerns about, given his checkered past and injuries

I think Crennel is OK with Smith/Edwards, for now.
They don’t need Earth-shattering from NT. Just a consistent level of play. IMO, there’s enough athleticism in the secondary and enough experience on the DL, to put together something pretty solid.
Well if that's true, I'm disappointed in Crennel.
He of all people just know how important the NT position is to the success of the D.
I’m won’t be happy and the Chiefs can’t get to a super bowl, until they stop addressing this position with an attitude of mediocrity.
That’s just a fact jack.
"The other teams could make trouble for us if they win." ~Yogi Berra~
We'll see how it plays out on the field.
Last year, it looked to me like NT and OL were only meagerly addressed, and that’s how it played out on the field, much of the time. This year, there’s better talent all the way around (all positions), and, yet, more continuity. The Chiefs are 2-deep at true NT. They might not need to be dominant if they’re consistent and a system of defense can be built around what they bring. The depth alone might mean that the other 10 guys can make plays off of something consistent.
Well...I would tend to disagree.
I don’t think in a 3/4, we can win a Super Bowl without dominance at the NT position.
I think we can have a winning season, maybe win a playoff game. But the team running a 3/4 that we might oppose in a Super Bowl, is going to be there because of dominant lines on both sides of the ball and on D, in particular, they will have a dominant NT.
I don’t think Edwards or Smith provides that.
