I was born into a world of Red and Gold. I have spent many Sunday afternoons in the holy Arrowhead stadium, sometimes in the rain and others in the snow. Hell, I am a true blue Royals fan so it shouldn't be hard to understand that when I declare my love for a team, I absolutely mean it. The closest I've come in my 23 years on this earth to denouncing the Chiefs was when Peterson traded away Jared Allen. I told multiple people that I would never go to another Chiefs game while Carl Peterson was still calling the shots. Needless to say, I was absolutely elated when I heard news of his "resigning". With that said, I just don't see the Chiefs making the playoffs this year.
There is not one person on this planet that hopes I am wrong more than myself (in January I made a bet with my best friend that if KC makes the playoffs he will buy me a case of beer). I bleed three colors: Red, Gold, and Black (Mizzou). But even with all the improvements that KC has made this year I just do not see it happening. Yes, Thomas Jones is a beast. Yes, the offensive line is vastly improved. Yes, KC had a great draft. But....what about the front seven? I'm convinced DJ and Belcher will start, which will be great. Personally, I think Belcher could end up being very much so like Kawika Mitchell or Mike Maslowski which, of course, would be a damn good thing for an undrafted player. My issue is all on the front 3 though. While Dorsey proved last season without him the line suffers, I'm yet to be convinced at all by Jackson. Still, Jackson is not the issue. My true issue is with Ron Edwards. KC needs a TRUE nose tackle. I was subject to much persecution during the draft because I was dying to see KC take Mt. Cody. Now, I really do like the Arenas pick. He has the potential to be great as a return man and he will be an enormous upgrade at nickel, but I ask you...what is the point of a great secondary if you cannot stop the run? I tend to believe that in the next 3 years Kansas City will have the leagues best secondary. I was praying for Brandon Flowers when he was drafted and I'd bet my left nut he will be a pro bowler this year. As far as Eric Berry...who wasnt praying for him? While I seriously wanted Berry on the team, I was really hoping they would take Rolando McClain. In my mind it would have been the smartest pick (despite the fact that i was jumping and yelling in excitement over Eric Fucking Berry). But, long story short, KC HAS to stop the run this year in order to make the playoffs and I just don't see it. Without a nose tackle plugging the middle it's almost a lost cause. 10-6 is my prediction but they will not overcome San Diego this year and won't take a wildcard place. I hope I'm wrong, but they will have to show me first before I just buy in.
