Deadline For Chiefs S Jarrad Page Comes And Goes

Chiefs S Jarrad Page had a deadline of p.m. 10:59 (CDT) Monday evening to sign his restricted free agent tender before the Chiefs were eligible to reduce it.

As of this morning, all indications are that he did not sign the tender and is not under contract.

We're not sure exactly what the Chiefs have done but they were eligible to reduce it from his original tender level ($1.759 million) to 110% of his 2009 salary ($1.6995 million).

If the Chiefs did this -- and Page did not sign before 10:59 p.m. (CDT) last night -- then he stands to lose $59,500.

The Chiefs are basically in the driver's seat at this point. They own his rights and if Page doesn't sign by the 10th week of the season he'll lose an accrued season towards free agency.

Maybe Page wants the Chiefs to release him. Neither side has been talking throughout this process so we're not really sure.

If I were in Page's shoes, I'd be speaking to the local media (on or off the record) putting his story out there as to why he's not signing it. Absent more information, the perception is that he's being greedy (even though I personally don't think that's the case).

Does anyone know how his injury is coming along?

I’m not going to get to worked up over this until I know how his injury is shaking out. If he is still injured I could see him not getting a deal worked out for awhile.

Consider alternative possibilities

It seems like very few people have considered the possibility that Pioli and Page have a strategy here that is best for the Chiefs AND Page. Perhaps Page still suffers a bit from his injury, and in order to keep a roster spot open without putting Page on IR and losing him for an extended period they have agreed to leave the contract unsigned while Page continues his rehabilitation of his injury. This keeps a roster spot open but allows the Page the option of coming back anytime between now and the 10th week. If the injury persists they could then sign him and move him to IR.

Talking with the media would be a good way to get in Pioli's dog house

if Page wants to get released then turning this into a public affair would be a good start.

Or twitter

I don’t understand this whole Page story. Was he unhappy we got Berry? I thought when it got to the mandatory stuff teams are supposed to announce if someones hurt, otherwise they could fine em for not being there? This is the wrong way to go about trying to fight to keep your job, maybe he doesn’t want to play ST if he doesn’t start? I give up!

Without knowing how we would use him and Berry I really don't think

he could or should be upset about getting another good playmaker back there, not to mention it would make his job easier.

seems to me he did tweet something, saw something the other day (Arrowheadlines? yesterday?????)

… along the lines of “wait til people find out the truth, but I can’t say more right now”

meaning … who the hell knows what that’s supposed to mean … is it a holdout? is it an injury thing? is it a nothing that we’re overblowing but Pioli has him sworn to secrecy?

injur updates

You only are required to give an injury update in mandatory camp if that player is on a contract. He hasn’t signed his tender and therefore not contract/ injury update.

Dear Mr. Pioli,

In light of the recent events reguarding Jarrad Page and his refusal to sign his restricted free agent tender, I would like to submit a request that I, BigRedChief, be considered for the $59,500 forfeited by Mr. Page. I’m sure that you will find that my services as an active contributor to Arrowhead Pride would be advantageous to your intersts and are more than enough to ensure a solid investment to the future of your fine organization. In closing I would like to say In Pioli I Trust and Go Chiefs!

... and that I, as Mr BRC's agent, be the sole representative for Mr BRC (at standard 25% rates, of course)

be advised, Mr Pioli, that Mr BRC would indeed be a bargain for the team, and would be a positive influence both on and off the field (especially OFF the field where he truly belongs) and for only a SLIGHT increase from our original base salaray, I can assure you that Mr BRC would be MORE than happy to STAY off the field at any and all times, while still maintaining a positive outlook and being a great competitor for our winning team

Mr BRC is of the highest character, and as we all know how much that is valued by the organization, we feel that this is an extremely attractive offer …

thank you for your time, Mr Pioli

I thought today was finally the day we can turn the "Page" on this drama...

Other Arenas wish they could be like Arrowhead Stadium as it prepares to turn a new Page on Chiefs legacy. Rivals think they are going to be fine on an island of Flowers, but when they get hit by what feels like a Carr, they'll never be able to eat a Berry ever again.

Is it possible...

…that Page is doing the Chiefs a favor?

The chiefs can only have so many people in OTA’s and what not…and people who are not under contract do not count against that number….then is it possible that by not signing his tender, it allows for one extra person to ’try-out" for the team?

by DivineGrace on Jun 15, 2010 9:53 AM CDT reply actions

This is definately a positive...

and it has given Kestahn Moore a chance to make the team… our draftees will be signing on soon, and we will be making decisions about everybody soon enough.

We shall see if he can become the number 3 or 4 man...

Wasn’t it Jackie Battle that looked pretty good during the offseason and had some playing? I know its a long shot for Moore to make the team… yet if he wasn’t even given a look he would have had 0 chance. I’d say there is about a 15 percent chance that he gets to touch the ball during a game this year.

He seems to be a similar type back as Charles, and he is hanging out with Jones every second that he can… he is definitely doing all the right things, and has opened a hole for himself on the team.

Jarvis Williams Tim Castille and Jackie Battle appear to be in for that 3rd back position which they all fits more of the Thomas Jones mold. Yet Tim Castille is a FB, and I would like to see that position addressed before the season begins.

One might say that Dexter McCluster could be the speed back (I personally don’t see us doing that often). So to run the offense we need to have a backup RB that can play similar to Charles on game days. Moore fits that mold…

The only real question that I have for Moore is how can he hold up to being hit at the NFL level… is he going to break, is he going to fumble, etc. He is quick and has moves… so hopefully he does make the team, and starts making plays. It would be nice to have a set of running backs like the Saints have Bell, Bush and Thomas,

Go Chiefs!!!!

by ravenhawk on Jun 15, 2010 4:00 PM CDT up reply actions

That's been argued before

But the only way that makes sense is the coaches and GM are positive Page is one of our best options at S. He has the veteran experience to be at the top of the list, but hasn’t been the most effective S. He’s also missing out on learning all the new verbiage for a new defense under a new DC. His reads and assignments will likely be different than last year too, so missing this time is going ot set him back as far as getting into the new D.

I’d liek to chalk his absence up to his injury or the tactics of saving OTA space for one other player, but Page simply isn’t good enough to be a shoe-in for a starter.

by Chiefs4Life on Jun 15, 2010 10:05 AM CDT up reply actions

No.

Page isn’t gaining anything by missing OTAs with his new DC. Page still has a LOT to learn, and still needs to develop. Missing OTAs is not good for either him, or the team.

Well

It is entirely possible and likely that this is in fact the case. I’m sure he’ll be in camp. He most likely has needed more time to fully heal, and why have him eating space on the handicap/fatty field? I will almost bet tht he’s got a playbook and direction from Romeo. Go Chiefs

That would be highly, highly, unlikely.

Management and players conspiring together to subjugate and circumvent the league rules as set forth in the official NFL Rules Book, are frowned upon and could lead to an investigation of the Kansas City Chiefs organization and Scott Pioli by the Commissioner’s office.

I don’t think Pioli is going to enter into this kind of a relationship with one of his players.

Kent Babb put this on his twitter last Saturday:
Page wasn’t happy with the way he and other players were treated last yr. Team sees him as fragile, unwilling to push himself.

Babb isn’t an official Chiefs source, but he’s not stupid either. Most of what he says is worth taking into consideration.

My long, drawn-out predictions that no one cares about, nor will bother to remember:

1. Todd Haley will still be the Chiefs Head Coach up to the 2011 season.
2. Clancy Pendergast won't make it to the 2010 season and was never intended to. Last-minute hire for a position that needed to be filled.
3. Todd Haley will not be the OC at the start of the 2010 season.

Mankins would be a great addition to our O-Line.

I would love to have him

just need to pull the trigger now to get him in here and working along side everyone else.

Are we the team to beat in 2010? I sure think so! Go Chiefs.

Me too. I know I've probably started a shitstorm of controversy...but...

It would be a good probem to have….too much talent on the O-line? Who could have thunk it say…in the middle of last season.

We would have to lock alot of money up in him

which wouldn’t be a bad thing, but I have a feeling he is going to shutup soon like Crayton did and report to camp and play.

Reagrding the babb tweet

if jarrad page is unhappy with out he was treated by the coaches last year then page has an ego problem

he is a big baby and if he cant handle being pushed by the coaches to become a batter player then he not cut out to be a chief let alone an nfl football player

page has to understand haley and pioli are not here to babysit him or anyone else they are here to win championships

apperantally the other players who prolly felt they were miss treated by the coaches are showimg up to all the workouts and stuff but page cant the difference is those players have bought in and want to win so there puutting in the extra work

page is doing nither and his ego has reallt done him in the chiefs dont need selfish players like page they shoud just cut ties with him and move on

if page wants to enjoy losing thats his choice while we are winning he will regret his actions someday

but it would not surprise me if page

1 has lost his starting job
2 gets cut for being a selfish player
3 gets ran out of the league after teems cut him left and right

so page if you dont want to be a chuef then go play basball
thanks

We dont know what is going on…Im going to laugh if it comes out to not to be a big deal all along after everyone has jumped all over Page.

I thought that was why we were all here.

So we can jump to conclusions.
