When you get done remembering how awesome Joe Montana and the Chiefs were in that game scroll back up and look at the very top of that Sports Illustrated magazine, thats right it mentions Tonya Harding! Its seems like forever ago right? After the jump I'm going to break down some more stuff happening the same year as the last Chiefs successful playoff run.
In 1993 the President of the United States of America was none other that Arkansas' own William Jefferson "Bill" Clinton.
The 1993 Academy Award and Best Picture was Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven and several notable movies were released such as Jurassic Park, Alive, and still one of my all time favorites The Fugitive! 60 minutes ruled the TV airwaves but alot of shows many of us remember seeing for years after came out such as The X-files, Beavis and Butt-head, Martin, and the one that took over many kids all around the world for several years, Might Morphin Power Rangers. Ohh yeah and one prominant show bit the dust and I still remember having to sit there and watch it with my parents, that show was Cheers.
Whitney Houston was #1 on all the pop charts with the song "I will always love you."
The Toronto Blue Jays were World Series Champions again. They defeated the Phillies in 6 games and capped it all of with Joe Carter's walk off Home Run.
George Brett still played for the Royals and smacked 19 HR's with 75 RBI's. A few other notiable Royals were Kevin Appier, David Cone, Brian McRae, Mark Gubicza, and Tom Gordon. They finished 3rd in the American League West with 84 wins and 78 losses.
Da Bull's won their third consecutive NBA championship on John Paxson's 3 pointer over the Phoenix Suns.
From April to October the Great flood of 1993 occured. As many of us remember the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers flooded and to a whopping total of $15 Billion dollars.
Sydney Australia wins the bid to host the 2000 Olympic games.
The first ever first person shooter that I remember was DOOM. It came out in 1993 and has since been voted as the #1 game of all time. I had the red case for the Super Nintendo and that was one of the only few game cassettes ever made with a different color for the SNES.
The cost of a first class stamp was a bank breaking $0.29
North Carolina won the NCAA Mens Basketball Championship defeating Michigan 77-71. The NCAA football champions of the world in 1993 were the Florida State Seminoles who finished with a record of 12-1 and were led by Bobby Bowden. Many of you on here are fans of the certain team that they beat so I'm going to leave that one off of here. Charlie Ward was their QB and won the Heisman Trophy that year. We asked about Ward becoming a backup to Joe Montana when he was with the Knicks but he declined.
And finally the Superbowl Champions were you guessed it, the Dallas Cowboys. Had we beat the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship game that year, maybe we would all still be talking about our second ever NFL Championship. I have a feeling though that we aren't going to have to wait much longer until we can start posting about our next successful playoff run. Until then, Go Chiefs!
